Ladies, there’s no better time than the new year to hit refresh on your style! Just because we’re over 50 doesn’t mean we can’t stay fun, fashionable, and fabulous. Let’s make fashion something we look forward to instead of something that feels overwhelming. I’ve put together five easy style resolutions for 2025 to help you feel confident and stylish all year long!

5 Style Resolutions for Women Over 50 in 2025

Style Resolution #1: Upgrade Your Denim Collection

The right pair of jeans can make you feel like a million bucks, so why not give your denim collection a little refresh this year? Start with the fit—because nothing’s better than jeans that hug you in all the right places. High-rise and straight-leg styles are universally flattering, but don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try wide-leg or cropped options. You might just find a new favorite!

Take your time trying on different cuts and washes until you find the ones that feel just right. And don’t skip over the details—pocket placement can do wonders for how your jeans look on you. If the length isn’t quite perfect, no worries! Get them hemmed or cuffed to achieve that polished look we all love.

When in doubt, start with a classic dark wash. It’s slimming, versatile, and works for almost any occasion. And don’t forget about your shoes! Your denim should complement your footwear, not compete with it. Whether it’s sneakers, booties, or heels, the right jeans-and-shoe combo can take your outfit to the next level.

Style Resolution #2: Clean Out Your Closet and Curate Your Wardrobe

Ladies, it’s time to tackle that closet! Maybe it’s bursting at the seams, or you’ve got things you haven’t worn in years. Either way, let’s get serious about cleaning out the clutter and keeping what actually works for your lifestyle!

Start by pulling everything out of your closet—yes, everything! Make three piles: keep, donate, and repair. If you haven’t worn it in the past year, it’s time to let it go. Trust me, even if you once loved it, you won’t miss it once it’s gone.

Now that you’ve pared things down, focus on curating a wardrobe that works for you. A few timeless basics will be your foundation—think pieces you can mix and match effortlessly. Then, add in some fun, trendy items to keep things feeling fresh and modern. And remember, fit is everything! Go for fabrics and cuts that make you feel fabulous and confident.

To keep your hard work from going to waste, treat yourself to matching hangers (they really do make a difference!) and some storage bins for off-season items. Make it a habit to do a quick closet refresh every few months. Staying organized means you’ll always have outfits ready to go when life gets busy!

Style Resolution #3: Focus on Tailoring and Proportions

Your clothes should work for you, not against you! This year, make it a goal to befriend your local tailor. A few simple tweaks—hemming pants, nipping in a blazer, or shortening sleeves—can take an outfit from “meh” to “wow” in no time. Trust me, the difference is like night and day!

Proportions are key when putting together a polished look. Balance is your best friend! Wide-leg pants? Pair them with a fitted top. Flowy blouse? Try slim pants or a pencil skirt to keep the look balanced. It’s all about creating that effortless harmony in your outfits.

And when it comes to shopping, don’t settle for a so-so fit just because it’s on sale. Pick pieces that flatter your shape, and if they’re not quite perfect, invest in tailoring. It’s worth every penny, and you’ll feel so much more confident knowing your clothes fit you like a dream!

Style Resolution #4 Elevate Your Accessories Game

Now, let’s talk all about accessories! They’re the easiest way to transform an outfit, so let’s resolve to give those finishing touches a little more love this year. First, tackle what you’ve already got. Organize your stash and see where you might have a few gaps—this way, you’ll know exactly what you need (and what you don’t!). I have a few of my tips on how to organize your jewelry here.

Invest in pieces you can wear with just about anything. Classic hoop earrings, structured handbags, and silk scarves are timeless and oh-so-versatile. And don’t forget about belts! They can add that perfect polished touch to dresses or even cinch in a coat for a whole new vibe.

Feeling hesitant about bold pieces? Start small. A chunky necklace or oversized earrings paired with a neutral outfit is a great way to dip your toes into the statement accessory pool. Remember, accessories aren’t just about adding style—they’re about showing off your personality. So have fun with it, and don’t be afraid to experiment!

I LOVE accessories, and you can find some of very favorite pieces of jewelry in these posts:

Style Resolution #5: Refresh Your Shoe Collection

Shoes really are the foundation of every outfit! The start of the new year is the perfect time to take stock of your collection and make sure your shoes are not only stylish but also comfortable. Start by assessing the pairs you reach for most. If they’re looking a little worse for wear or leave your feet begging for mercy, it’s time to replace them.

When shopping, look for styles that blend fashion with function. Block heels, loafers, and ankle boots are wardrobe workhorses you can wear every day. For those dressier moments, try metallic flats or embellished heels to add a touch of sparkle and sophistication.

Comfort is non-negotiable, so keep an eye out for cushioned insoles, arch support, and any other features that keep your feet happy. And don’t forget about shoe care! Regularly polish your leather pairs and give your suede shoes a quick spritz with a water-resistant spray. A little TLC will help your favorite pairs last longer and keep you looking fabulous from head to toe!

We talk a lot about shoes around here! Here are a few of my favorite shoe posts:

I love your blog! My favorite retail place to buy clothing is Marshall’s. Like what girl doesn’t like bargains?!? I also have pretty good luck with Maurice’s.

  2. I love your blog!
I started following 3 blogs about 10 years ago, yours was one
Pleasse let me thank you for wearing CLOTHES I am so tired of seeing “athletic wear”, and “raw edge jeans, huge flares, tee shirts. Put some thought into it please ladies.
I love seeing the thought you put into your choices, and how well you coordinate many different clothing lines, from so many stores. It’s wonderful, and very refreshing.
    Keep it up
Seeing your family and hearing your stories is a treat as well.

  3. Hi Tania. Thanks so much for your posts—really helpful. I shop at Talbots most often, closely followed by JJill and Chicos. Thanks again!

I look forward to your shopping tips which are always fashionable, but you definitely had an excellent idea on organization. Namely, the jewelry storage choices which featured a vast selection of sizes, prices, and beautifully functional! Keep up the good work for you are appreciated.

  5. T.J. Maxx, and Walmart, and Amazon. I used to go to Beall’s and half my clothes are from Steinmart. I really miss Steinmart.

  6. Hi Tania! Happy New Year! I love the clothes from Amazon, Walmart, TJ Maxx, Marshalls. A good bargain excites me. The higher end clothes although nice are just over the top for me with a child in college and bills to pay. $200 for a pair of Jeans is not necessary for the average person. It costs that much to go to grocery store each week. But, as a blogger you need to have variety that meets everyone’s preferences which I am sure is a challenge. So, just keep doing what you are doing because it works! That is why we keep reading your posts!

  8. I live in a small town, but we do have a Belk’s and Penney’s. I try to patronize them whenever I can. I also do a good bit of online shopping with Belk’s. I also online shop with Talbots, Ann Taylor, and Banana Republic Factory. I love Kendra Scott jewelry and Vionic shoes.

  9. I love all your post. I do most of my shopping at Beall’s. I also like Kohls, Belk, Amazon and Walmart.

  10. I love Talbots because of the variety of sizing. I also like looking through Nordstroms and I have been known to buy pieces at JC Penney’s and Kohl ‘s. Enjoy you. Wish you a Happy New Year!!
