Just because we are over 50 doesn’t mean we don’t go out on the town. In fact, now that we are older, we have more opportunities to go out than we did when we were younger. I don’t have to find a babysitter or be home at a certain time to tuck little ones in bed, so I can party till dawn if I want to. Okay, maybe I’m the one who needs to be tucked into bed by midnight so I don’t turn into a pumpkin – I don’t look good in orange! Now that you can party let’s talk about fashion!!! Here are some affordable black cocktail dresses for women over 50 that will have you looking fabulous but not break the bank.

Did your mouth just drop open? I know it did because mine did when I saw this dress. I was not only impressed by the style but wait until you feel like incredibly soft and silky material!

The One Shoulder Ruched Dress is very comfortable and looks chic and elegant. It is hard to believe that it is only $20! The dress is also available in white, but I love the classic black.

As we get older, our shoulders are an area that doesn’t show age as much. If you want to add a wrap for extra coverage, you could do so. You might want to wear shapewear under the dress. I didn’t have one on, and I can see a few bumps that could have been smoothed with shapewear.

You see me carrying this Straw Clutch and wearing the Clear Strap Wedge Shoes a lot. They are two of my favorite neutral items that go with everything and are very affordable. I like the clutch so much that I also ordered it in black.

Amazon is known for its affordable items and gadgets. Most people are only now starting to get comfortable ordering clothing from Amazon. Like any retailer, it takes a while to figure out which brands have the best quality and how their sizing runs.

This 2 Piece Knit Top High Waist Midi Skirt Set is by one of the brands I know I can count on to be of good quality. This set is a nice weight, and is versatile since it can be worn as separates.

I was worried about the top being cropped. The skirt is high-waisted, so the top was plenty long enough not to show any skin. I’m fairly long-waisted, so I doubt this will be an issue for most of you. I’m wearing a large in both dresses, but you can size up if you want them to fit looser.

Since the dresses are so affordable, you can spend a little extra on your accessories. The Statement Earrings in Gold and Statement Necklace in Golden Abalone c/o Kendra Scott can make any outfit look like a million bucks! The other day, I wore these statement earrings with jeans, and I think they are now my new favorite summer earrings!!! I love that the necklace is adjustable and can be worn shorter, like a choker, or longer, like a pendant. Looking at the back view photo above, you’ll see one of the adjustable chains hanging down my back.

The Vionic Ankle Straps Heeled Sandals are perfect for a dressy occasion. They are comfortable, and the chunky heel makes the sandals stable and easy to walk in. That is especially important if you are walking on grass. I also LOVE the velcro closure! No more standing on your head trying to get a buckle fastened. Lol!

Do you have an event you need to attend this summer?

  1. Holy moly! That off the shoulder dress look fabulous on you!!! Your hair looks so cute!!! Happy Wednesday❤❤❤

  2. Cute dresses, I am paranoid about my arms now, so round have to find some options with at least 3/4 length sleeves. I’m going to look at the Amazon clothing line that you recommended.

  3. Isn’t the plant ID feature fun? That fan moss is pretty cool! Love a nice black dress. The one shoulder dress is so pretty.

  4. You can never have too many little black dresses. Love them

  5. You look beautiful in both of the try ones and all of the dresses are really nice options.

  6. Tania-in your paragraph about walking in the woods looking at land, and the Fanclub moss you saw, I noticed poison ivy in the moss. Hope you avoided it!!

    1. Yes, I stayed clear from it. Lol!

  7. You look good in black!
Just an FYI… that nice plant you took a photo of is pretty…but lurking behind it I can see poison ivy. Very nasty stuff if you get it on you. Wash with soap and water!

    1. Lisa, I stay away from plants with 3 and 5 leaves. The worst case of poison ivy I ever had came from a plant that didn’t have any leaves. I was clearing out some vines from my flower beds.

  8. I agree-every woman should own a basic black dress that can be accessoried in many ways.

  9. I really like that these are so affordable. Most “special” occasions that require this type of dress are not in my schedule often enough to spend a lot on them.

That $20 ruched dress looks fabulous on you! I might buy one to keep the other dresses in my closet company lol! I rarely go to events but that is soooo cute.

    1. I don’t go to events often either, but it is nice to have a dress in the closet when needed.
