Body Types That Aren’t Fruit – Inverted Heart
Women’s body types are complicated. Trying to figure out what looks the best for our bodies is sometimes a process of hit and miss. After you get the hang of what looks best for your body, shopping gets easier.
A reader commented the other day that she liked something I was wearing, but it wouldn’t look good on her body type. That got me to thinking about the different types other than my own. We are all diamonds and today I am trying to look at the inverted heart body type. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, J-Lo, and Beyonce, have all made it very stylish and desirable to be bootylicious. I believe there is even a song that is just for you. Hahaha
Like the Emerald shape, v-neck or u-neck tops work great for you. Horizontal stripes and embellishments on the shoulders are two tricks that can help to widen your upper body. An empire waist helps to bring emphasis to your chest. Since I did not have an empire waist top, I buttoned the cardigan to give that illusion.
Notice that I buttoned the cardigan with the lower buttons now. This would be how I would normally wear this sweater. You should wear darker colors on the bottom half of your body, and choose pants or jeans that are boot cut or wide-leg. These pants are boot cut, and I have on a pair of the same color boots to help elongate the legs.
Now, how about the open cardigan look. believe it or not, each way changes how your body looks.

These three tops from Old Navy were items I would pick for the inverted heart shape. The patterns on the shoulders will widen the top helping to balance the bottom half. The wide U-shape top, will do the same. Lighter colors on the top look good with the darker bottom. Just try to stay away from skinny jeans and pencil skirts.
Just in case you were wondering, my cardigan is a Simply Vera by Vera Wang from Kohl’s, it is old and no longer available unless you can find it on a swap site or Ebay. The undershirt long tank, and the boot cut navy corduroy pants are both from Old Navy. Here is a great pair of pants on sale from the Loft. My jewelry is all Stella & Dot. And the purse is Tiganello from the QVC outlet. Here is a similar one.
I’m just sitting here thinking that the next time I wear this cardigan, I am going to wear a dark navy or black undershirt, with white jeans. Man, I wish I had tried that today, but there will always be another opportunity. Don’t let me forget to try that look. Lol!
Let me know what you think about this series. As I said earlier, I am not trained in fashion, these are just some of my observations. If you missed yesterday’s post on the Emerald shape, go here.
You might have noticed a new design to the website. I hope you like the new look, and that you are able to navigate its features easily. The comment section is at the end of the post, so keep scrolling. I look forward to reading all the comments, they make my day.

Wow! Thanks so much< Dawn. I think that will be the first list I have EVER made!
I just found your blog this week and I love it! I wear scrubs everyday which is great when it comes to getting dressed for work; however, the rest of my wardrobe is suffering! I love how you mention that a certain item is “old” but how it still compliments your very up-to-date outfit. I am inspired to duplicate your classy look! I’m also glad to know that Old Navy is not just for the “under 50 girls”.
I’m so glad you found my blog, Wendy. You would think store like Old Navy would market us over 40 gurls, we are a large part of the population.
Pretty outfit! Still not sure what my gem shape is….? I think I may be a little larger on top than I envision actually. I know the bottom part is large. Ha! – Love the cardigan! (or “sweater” as we used to call them).
Thanks Betty. Figuring out our body type is hard, we are sometimes a mix.
Ok ,I have that cardigan and I am going to pair it with a black shirt and my winter white jeans. Hopefully it will look good on me. I will let you know. Enjoying the shapes so far. Figuring where I am at…..but not sure. Have a great one!
Love the whole diamond concept of shapes! Now I can say I’m just have more ‘sparkle’ because my diamond is ‘more grande’! HA!~ (I’m plus size..)
I really like the sparkle concept! My BFF is plus size, and she puts me to shame in fashion.
