It was nice to see family and friends who came by to pay their respects to my Grandmother. My oldest son posted two stories about Granny on Facebook yesterday that I thought I would share with you.

1) She once killed a snake on her front porch by stepping on its head when she was 96 years old. At 97 she once again saw a snake but this time swept it off the porch. When asked why she didn’t kill it she replied, ‘I’m too old to be doing that!’ I guess 96 is where she draws the line!

2) When having a conversation in her late 90’s with my sister, Ashleigh, she asked, ‘Do you want to see a pic of me when I was younger?’ Ashleigh said, ‘Of course.’ fully expecting a pic of her when she was a baby or possibly a teenager. Granny (as everyone called her) pulled out a 5×7 framed picture that was taken just a year or so earlier. She was very proud of how ‘young’ she was in the pic!

Butterflies are free, fly high Granny.

  6. Beautiful stories about a beautiful woman. They touched my heart. May she Rest In Peace.

  7. Grandmothers are special… And the ones from her generation a true inspiration as they pioneered so many things we take for granted as women today! I often think of her ‘Joie de vivre’ as she danced away in the video you shared with us.
Life is a gift and a journey. From what you have shared … she truly learned to ‘savor the art of living’ and passed it on to her loved ones such as you. Thoughts are with you.

  8. She sounds like a fun and feisty lady with a remarkable sense of humor. May you find comfort in all of your wonderful memories.

Sounds so much like my mother who is 88. Not anything she want tackle. Still thinks like a young person most days. Exercises at her retirement village 5 days a week. Puts me to shame and in better health than I am. Her mother lived to be 100. She is well on her way! Think about the legacy Granny left you all to uphold. Know that I pray for joy to feel your heart in all your thoughts of her. She has finally made it home!!
