A DENIM JACKET FOR EVERYDAY WEAR
In just a few days my sister’s new book will be hitting the shelves. Big sisters don’t like to brag about their younger siblings any more than they have to but, dang, my sister is talented. I thought that the first book (Last In A Long Line of Rebels) might have been a fluke. But I just finished reading her second book, Hope In The Holler, and it looks like she is legit! In fact, Amazon just picked her book as a Best Book In January for 9-12 year-olds! Who knew that I could be related to someone so talented?
The book comes out January 9th if you’d like to order one (hint, hint) and if you’re in the Atlanta area, she’s having a book launch party on Saturday, January 13th in Woodstock, Georgia. It’s at a cute bookstore called FoxTale and will be at 4 pm. If you want a signed copy but can’t make it, you can call them and tell them to set one aside for you and then they’ll mail it!
Don’t want to wait?? I’m giving away a signed copy to one lucky reader. Just leave a comment and tell me if you could go back in time, what one thing you would tell your 12-year-old self. I’ll be choosing a winner in the next day or two.
The book is written for the middle-grade age arena but it is truly enjoyable for any age. The book is written about a young girl named Wavie who has been left a list by her dying mother. “You have just as much a right as anybody for a good life, Wavie.” The area that Wavie is forced to move to is too familiar to me. The poverty and lack of hope is something that is prevalent in the Appalachian region. I love how she describes the characters and brings them to life. Some of them sound just like people I’ve met but she refuses to tell me if they are based on anyone I know. Lol! I keep waiting for a character that sounds like me in one of her books but I am afraid it would be the villain. Hahaha
This old snakeskin print sweater is one of Joe’s favorite clothing items that I own. I have no idea why he likes it so well but he compliments me on this almost every time I wear it. It can’t be the color and I doubt if he is a big snakeskin fan, so go figure. This is an example of buying something comfortable (it is thin, soft, and cozy) and adding the unique detail of the snakeskin print to make it more fashionable. Instead of choosing a solid item all the time you should branch out occasionally and get something a little more unique.
Gold was the jewelry choice for the day. Plunder came out with several gold jewelry items in their fall and winter catalog and I have been loving them. I use to wear only gold and I have been slowly getting more used to wearing silver. My favorite look is to mix the two colors which I would have never done five years ago. My filigree earrings are the Ashton. When I first bought this pair I was afraid they were too big and now I think they are just right. You get more and more comfortable as you expand your comfort zone. The long necklace is the Clarissa and it has several dangling charms. It is adjustable if you prefer a shorter style. I just tuck the extra chain down inside my sweater. The two bracelets are the Ashlyn and the Gail. The Gail bracelet has the word HOPE on the bar. If that is your word of the year or if you could just use the reminder then this is a great bracelet for you. The entire month of January I will be gifting everyone who makes a purchase of 75.00, excluding taxes and shipping, another free gift. Go to plunderdesign.com/tasniastephens and pick a party with my name on it to place an order.
These corduroy pants are very old. In fact, I think they are a hand-me-down from my daughter. I like this caramel color for the fall months and I believe I have about 4 or 5 different pairs of pants in this color. I just noticed yesterday that I have two from Old Navy that is the exact same. That just goes to show you that I this is a color that calls my name. This pair was from Maurices and they are probably 10 to 12 years old. Lol!
Here is the dreaded back view. Lol! I pulled out “old Betsy” to wear today. I bet every one of you has a go-to jacket that you can throw on with almost anything. A denim jacket works great for that. They can be dressed up or dressed down and they look modern and youthful. If you don’t own one then take my advice and get one. Age does not matter when it comes to a denim jacket!!! Mine is from Old Navy and it is very affordable if you are not sure you would get a lot of wear from it. My suede ankle booties are a pair by Isaac Mizrahi. I liked this pair so much that I bought the same pair in a muted wine color also.
I swear I am giving away the farm this month! First a FREE copy of my sister’s new book. A FREE Redefine Multi-Function Eye cream and a FREE Lottie necklace from Plunder. (Go here to enter) AND, I am gifting a free piece of jewelry to everyone who purchases 75.00 (excluding taxes and shipping) in jewelry from Plunder.
This cold weather has my skin so dry. I am glad that I use the Active Hydration Serum on my face but they need to make it in a gallon size container. Lol! I would tell my 12 year old self to appreciate your parents more. You will miss them when they are gone. We love because He first loved us.
When I was 12 years old I wanted to be 18. I was the oldest of 3 girls and was very mature. Now I know I never really got to be 12. I would tell myself to stop wanting to be older and enjoy being a 12 year old girl because you only get that chance once.
Forgot to mention what I would tell My 12 year old self, (try not to be someone I am not, be myself and love her.)
You always make me smile, and you always have good advise. Your 12 year old self is wonderful. Go girl.
Hi Tania. I’m a huge fan of jean jackets…SO versatile! As for my 12 year old self…”DON’T WISH YOUR LIFE AWAY!” I can remember always wanting to be older for one reason or another…It all goes by in a blink!
I would tell myself to move a little more, walk, hike, dance, exercise, to make it a habit earlier.
I would love this book for my granddaughter.
I would tell my 12 year old self that I am perfect just the way I am!
I think I would tell my 12 yr old self to be happy. Stop thinking about what others have, how they look, etc. Focus on what you have, your friends, and all the fun moments in life. Just be happy and do what makes you happy.
Love your style!!
I would tell my 12 year old self my favorite quote”When you’re willing to do what most people won’t, you’ll be able to have what most people don’t.”
Go to New York fashion week and meet with the talent agency as your Charm School teacher advised you to do. Listen to yourself more.
