FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE

I had a reader comment on an old blog post that I did when I first started blogging. I went back and re-read the post and I have decided to share some of it with you today.

What do you see in the mirror? Are you your worst critic? I know that when I look in the mirror, I am always picking out my flaws. Why do we do this? Do men do this, too? It all starts in the morning when I am putting on my makeup. I use one of the 5X magnification mirrors to apply all my makeup, and that really, really, shows everything. Your pores look huge in those things! There is not a wrinkle, or fine line, that won’t show up. After that wonderful experience, I move on to the changing my clothes phase, in front of two huge mirrors in the bathroom. I have tried to put my clothes on with the lights turned off, but I couldn’t find my things. Haha! There is just nothing good that is going to come from standing in front of a mirror in your bra and panties. NOTHING!

But why do we feel this way? I read a story once about this lady. She is quite famous in some circles, but I am not going to mention her name. She talks about how she was never considered a beauty. She said she is short in stature, large in girth has frizzy unruly hair, and just overall not a classical beauty type. (Her inside is pure gold) One day, she was having makeup applied, and the makeup artist commented that this woman had perfect lips. She was thrilled because she now had something of a physical nature that made her proud. She said from that moment on, she always thought about her perfect lips as she applied her lipstick.

We all have something that makes us unique and special. Do we even take the time to acknowledge this? Genesis 1:27, says,

 So God created mankind in his own image,
    in the image of God he created them;
    male and female he created them.

We are created in His image! That has to be “perfect!” I would never look upon the Lord and say, “not bad, ” “just okay,” or “could be better.”

In Psalms 139:14 we are told,

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.

Your homework for the day is to look at yourself and see your best asset. Acknowledge it and say it out loud because we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Every part of us was thought out and hand crafted by our Lord. I don’t think I will ever look upon my body (inside and out) quite the same. Then take the time today to look at a loved one or friend and let them know something about them that you love or admire. I am sure it will make their day and probably yours also.

I am grateful, I am thankful, I am blessed.

    Psalm 139:14 is one of my favorite scriptures because it reminds me of my girls being little again. When they were young in elementary school, they were involved in Caterpillars and Butterflies, a group of young girls that went to our huge church. Every time they congregated, this is the scripture that they would say. I do pick myself to death bc we are supposed to be perfect, right? I like the story…I do have something about myself that I like and I will try to remember that. God Bless!

    Great post, Tania.

  3. Beautiful! I should have read this post earlier today. I’ll work on seeing the good in myself and in others tomorrow.

  4. Thank you so much! I went shopping today and hated everything I tried on! I felt huge and nothing fit right. I was really hating myself a lot. Then I when I left the store I saw a young woman with a small child and her husband. I know she probably weighed 100 lbs more than I did and I thought she would probably be happy at my size (14) And after reading your blog today I will start talk to me in a more positive manner. Because I am perfect I am made in the image of God. Thank you Tania.

    1. EXACTLY, Debbie! We are our own worst critics and I have no idea why. If you ask your husband, mother, sister, or friend for the good qualities they see in you I think you would be surprised.

    Thank you for this post, it really made me think about my blessings.

  8. Oh, how I needed to hear this, LOL, I had just caught myself, looking in the mirror today, saying what are you doing with that hair? And then went on from there, if my hair is bad, then nothing else I have done looks good. God is our maker, so we really should be happy with who we are and what we look like. Thanks for the homework, I am going to make sure I do the self love, and acknowledge someone else, the same way.. Great blog today!! TY!!
