50 IS NOT OLD | GIVING AN OUTFIT DEPTH | FASHION OVER 40One of the advantages of having a sister that’s an author is that she is a top-notch book recommender. Is that a thing? lol. Anyway, a few months ago she sent me a book called My Sweet Vidalia, by Deborah Mantella. She asked me last week how I’d liked it and I could have sworn I’d read it. When I pulled it out, I realized I hadn’t even cracked it open. Yikes. Can you see now why I need to slow my roll?

50 IS NOT OLD | GIVING AN OUTFIT DEPTH | FASHION OVER 40I have always loved to read so I decided to make myself slow down and take the time. Ooh, boy, and I glad I did. If y’all like southern literature ala Pat Conroy this one is for you. You can read the great reviews it received HERE, Now I know how Oprah feels. Ha. What do you think? Should we start a book club?? Comment with one of your favorite books. I’d love to make reading a part of my life again.50 IS NOT OLD | GIVING AN OUTFIT DEPTH | FASHION OVER 40 I am loving this bright and colorful top from Halogen. It is super cute and it is adjustable in the back. I should have taken a photo for you but maybe you can see it on the website, (here.) I ended up sending this top back because it was too big for me (was a size L) under the arms. I am thinking about ordering it again but in the black and orange color. Let me know your thoughts. This has a satiny feel but it is machine washable which is fantastic!50 IS NOT OLD | GIVING AN OUTFIT DEPTH | FASHION OVER 40 I laughed when I saw this picture. I went with casual jewelry but I had thought about going with more sparkly jewelry at first. I FORGOT to take out the sparkly earrings. Lol! In case you are wondering, they are the Mason earrings. I am taking this necklace with me on my trip on Friday to Rosemary Beach in Florida. The Starr necklace is perfect for a vacation getaway. If this doesn’t say “Beach” then nothing does. Lol! I added the 3 tortoiseshell bracelets today. They also remind me of the beach but I have not idea why. They are the Sierra, the Suzie, and the Tanesha. The Starr is one of the items that are in the Plunder Mania. I saw a LOT of you have already taken advantage of the Plunder Maniasavings that are being offered. Things are selling out quickly so be sure to check that out! Just remember to pick a party with my name in it first. 50 IS NOT OLD | GIVING AN OUTFIT DEPTH | FASHION OVER 40I thought that you might want to see that the top is a classic camisole style top. The spaghetti strings go to the back and thread through loops. You can pull them up or loosen them. This is a pretty cool design and I liked how easy they were to adjust.50 IS NOT OLD | GIVING AN OUTFIT DEPTH | FASHION OVER 40 I just received this pair of jeans in my shipment from the Trunk Club. I didn’t even bother to get them out of the bag until the last item. I thought to myself that I already had plenty of jeans and that I am not a huge fan of the lighter color jeans so why even bother. Finally, I dragged them out and put them on. DANG!!! This suckers fit perfect and snug you up in all the right places. I even liked the effect of the lighter color denim. These are a pull-on design which I am becoming more and more fond of. The brand is NYDJ and you can go here to buy them. 50 IS NOT OLD | GIVING AN OUTFIT DEPTH | FASHION OVER 40The dark teal long cardigan helps to ground the outfit. The light color of the camisole and the lighter jeans needed something to anchor the look. I chose to do that with the cardigan and the Dooney & Bourke handbag. The cardigan is one that I picked up at Cato Fashion last year around this time. It is what I consider a fall color. I always think of fall colors as being deep versions of spring and summer colors.

  1. This combination is one of your best. You look beautiful.

  2. The outfit looks great on you. I like the diagonal of the hemline in the picture but just read it’s actually straight across. I love Anne Tyler’s books.

  3. Pat Griffin says:

Loved the outfit, but especially the cami and want to buy it, but like several others have already said, the link goes to the book. How can we get the link to the cami?

  4. I LOVE this outfit!

  5. Thanks so much for the book recommendation. I’ve been wondering what my next book would be. I ordered it on Amazon after reading your post. Love your outfit today. The bright colors of the top are so pretty and I love the long sweater that gives you the long and lean look. You inspire me to work a little harder with my appearance each day. I’m wearing brighter colors and jewelry I haven’t worn in ages! It feels great!

  6. Francine Rivers “Redeeming Love” is one of my all time favorites. It’s one of those that’s hard to put down.

  7. Hi Tania, Such a cute outfit! As others have noted, your link for the camisole is incorrect, and I’d love for you to post a correction. I’m curious to see the other color combination but as of now, I think this top is adorable, albeit a bit large.

One more question—what is the color of your nail polish on your toenails? Hopefully it’s not a gel pedicure with only a number.

Last, I just finished a book someone gave me months ago, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, and I loved it. I’m very picky when it comes to books but I wholly recommend this one. I read that Reece Witherspoon will produce a movie based on it so you’ll probably be hearing more about it in the near future.

  8. Cute outfit! Ready for fall here! Books – almost anything by Charles Martin ( especially When Crickets Cry; anything by Kristen Hannah; for something different royalty books by Philipa Gregory

  9. Dana Buckingham says:

I love the colors in this top, especially with the dark blue sweater. I am an avid reader too and love stories about the South so I will be getting this book that you showed. Two of my favorites are Nichols Sparks and Richard Paul Evans. I love anything they write and have read them all to date. At the moment I am reading Richard Paul Evans ‘ book The forgotten Road which is the second in the series, the first being The Broken Road. I can highly recommend these two authors!

  10. Thanks for the suggestions. Trying to read/listen more. I’m a long time audiobooks member.

  11. Whoops! I was so caught up in the beautiful outfit, I forgot to mention some books! Lol. If you like true stories, Thunder Dog is amazing. It is by far one of my all-time favorite books. Another one I just read that is terrific is Driving Miss Norma. Some other great ones are: The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper, Where the Wind Leads, The One I Was, The One in a Miliion Boy….I could go on and on. A Man Called Ove that Sandy recommended is also remarkable. I love to read…finally bought a Kindle several years ago and I stock up on the sale books Amazon offers.

  12. I see the top has a straight edge hem but you have it tucked up for a diagonal look also. How do you fasten it to stay diagonal?

  13. Everything about this outfit looks totally SMASHING on you! A 10+! Even if you get the other color camisole, you should get this one in a smaller size too because this outfit just ROCKS!

  14. Love this outfit, sad you returned the cami, it’s so cute with the bright colors!

  15. I’m not crazy about the lighter wash jeans either but these look cute! I think it’s because I remember how they were in style several decades ago. I just finished reading The Swerve over vacation b/c I haven’t made time for reading lately either but wanted to finish that book that I bought several years ago. Have a great weekend!

  16. Gosh your emails are arriving later and later in the day! I was beginning to think it would not arrive today and or maybe you were poorly. I have become a regular at wearing pull on jeans/jeggings – they are super comfortable and no worries about broken zips I buy most of mine at Asda George very inexpensive and lots of colour choice. The whole outfit looks super casual and still very much like summer time you need to keep everything. Have a lovely weekend.

  17. Love your outfit. Have a great weekend.

  18. Susan Stancliff says:

Love the outfit! I will wear a cardigan any day. They just work great. Have a great trip to the beach!

  19. I LOVE this look.. the colors are amazing and make your eyes really pop.. You should totally re-order it.. 😉

  20. I love this outfit! Also, I just finished reading “A Man Called Ove”. It had parts that made me laugh, made me sad, and even made me cry. As I was reading it, I kept thinking I wanted to put it down and not finish it, but in the end I was so glad I did read it through. Have you read any Adriana Trigiani? Being from Big Stone Gap, she does a lot of book talks in Bristol.

  21. Victoria Elliott says:

Tania, I have to tell you what happened to me at work. I bought the earrings you wore with the gold shirt on yesterdays blog. I had them on and when I was hanging up the phone one fell from my ear but at that moment when I look down all I saw were these big sprawling legs! I thought a spider was on me!!! I screamed and jumped up and slapped myself! When it hit the floor and everyone turned and looked at me I realized it was my earring! We laughed about that all day!! 😀

  22. Julie Poppitz says:

Hi Tanya – I’m interested in getting the floral tank – but the link embedded in the description was for your sister’s book – not Halogen.
Is it possible to have the link sent to me?
I really love the outfit and really want the tank.
    Thanks for your fashionable inspiration!!!
    Your fan,
    Julie.

  23. Great look. Keep that top. The colors are so pretty. This one gets pinned. I suggest The Midwife’s Revolt. It’s a wonderful book set during the revolutionary war. My Mom used it for her book club and it was a winner. I’m an avid reader so a book club sounds fun to me.

  24. Terry Tatar says:

Will check out the book—love, love everything Pat Conroy has written! And love the outfit, too! Looks great on you!

  25. Brazilian Girl /Gail says:

Can you please fix the link for the top? I loved it!! We

  26. Hi there,
For me that link for the shirt goes to a book on Amazon. Love the outfit. love your blog.

  27. Caroline Spoth says:

Love the outfit! I love the book A Gentlemen in Moscow…..great characters and wonderful descriptions of settings. I love Pat Conroy so I’m putting that book on my reading list! We have a vacation home in Beaufort SC and I love that he used the area for his books and movies

  28. I love reading. I have a library app on my phone so I’m never without my book! One of my fav is Fried Green Tomatoes by Fannie Flagg. I’m going to add this book to my reading list.

Love the bright cami. Enjoy the beach..and I must say, you sure do travel a lot. I’m jealous

  29. Keep the top!! Those colors look great on you. I bought a few pair of the rockstar skinny jeans (pull-on stretch denim, dark wash of course) . They look good and they are so comfy. I absolutely love them. You mentioned them in a post earlier in the year, so thank you Tania!!! I love everything about this outfit, especially the color blue.

  30. Super great outfit…..trying to find out more about the top. I think there is a problem with the link to the top, every time I hit it, it goes to amazon and the book.

  31. Love this whole outfit! And the blouse is beautiful but the link sends me to the book link which I will look into, I love southern literature! That was a really long sentence, oh well! Have a blessed day, Tania!

  32. That has to be my favorite look of the season!! The cami is beautiful.
    Enjoy your day!

    1. I love this look! With different jewelry and shoes, it will transition into early fall well. Lee Smith is my favorite author and she is from Grundy. Her parents owned a dimestore there in the fifties. I know that’s way before your time. Her memoir about it is titled “Dimestore: A Writer’s Life.” Since you live in Grundy, I think it would be a great first pick for your book club. Sign me up!
