God Is Good At Being God
I’ve recently been listening to Lysa TerKeurst’s sermons on YouTube. Out of the clear blue, a video of her speaking at a Passion conference popped up. I don’t believe in coincidences, so I clicked on it, curious about what God wanted to show me. Lysa is an amazing speaker, and her words always seem to resonate deeply.
But this time, it was something so simple that it kept replaying in my mind. She mentioned a prayer she said every morning during a difficult season in her life.
She said, “God is GOOD, God is good to ME, and God is good at being GOD!”
I remember thinking, “Really? That’s how you start your day?” It seemed so basic, so obvious. But God kept bringing her sermons across my path, and every time, she repeated that same prayer.
The prayer started echoing in my mind long after I had turned off YouTube. I couldn’t shake it, and I knew the Holy Spirit was nudging me. But why? What was so special about those words?
God Is GOOD
This part seemed obvious. Of course, God is good. The Bible is filled with verses that affirm His goodness.
1 Chronicles 16:34 (NIV) – 34 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Psalm 145:9 (NIV) – 9 The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.
Mark 10:18 (NIV) – 18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.
I’ve never doubted that God is good. His goodness is woven into the very fabric of His nature. And His goodness is something we are constantly reminded of throughout His Word.
God Is Good to ME
This one also made sense. I’ve seen His goodness over and over again in my life. Despite my flaws and failures, He continues to pour out His mercy and blessings.
Whether it’s a beautiful sunrise, a heartfelt apology, a problem that suddenly resolves, or just the peace that settles over me when I read His Word, I know God is good to me.
I think we often forget to acknowledge His goodness when life gets hard. We focus on what we lack or what’s going wrong, and we forget to see how much He has already done.
God Is Good at Being God
This was the part that puzzled me. Of course, God is good at being God. After all, He created the universe. He knows all things. He is the Alpha and the Omega. Why would Lysa emphasize this part of the prayer?
Then, I remembered a scene from the movie “Bruce Almighty.” If you’ve seen it, you know the one. Bruce, frustrated with his life, complains to God about how things are going. So God (played by Morgan Freeman) decides to let Bruce handle things for a while to teach him a lesson.
Bruce is soon overwhelmed by the sheer volume of prayers coming in from people all over the world. His solution? Hit “Select All” and answer “YES” to every prayer.
What happens? Absolute mayhem. The world is thrown into chaos because Bruce, despite his good intentions, doesn’t have the wisdom, perspective, or understanding to handle the prayers correctly.
The movie is a silly comedy, but it illustrates something profound. God sees what we don’t see. He knows what we don’t know. And His ways are far above ours.
Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV)
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Trusting God to Be God
How many times do I try to step in and “help” God with His plans? How many times do I question what He’s doing because I don’t understand?
Lysa’s prayer made me realize that acknowledging “God is good at being God” means releasing control. It means trusting Him even when His answers don’t make sense to me.
It means that when my prayers go unanswered, He has a reason. It means that when things aren’t happening as quickly as I’d like, He’s working in the waiting. And it means that even when life feels completely out of control, He’s still on the throne, doing what only He can do.
It’s a daily decision to trust His goodness, His timing, and His purpose. Because God truly is good at being God. And I don’t need to understand everything to trust Him with everything.
To GOD Goes The Glory!
Have a Blessed Day
Let’s End with a Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being GOOD. Thank You for being good to me, even when I am undeserving of Your mercy and blessings. And thank You for being so good at being God. Your wisdom, love, and power are beyond anything I could ever comprehend.
Help me to trust You fully, especially when I don’t understand what You’re doing. Teach me to rest in Your goodness, knowing You are always working for my good, even when I can’t see it. Remind me daily that Your plans are far greater than mine and that Your ways are always perfect.
Lord, help me to release control, to lay down my worries, and to trust You to be God over my life. Let me walk in faith, knowing You are always good and always in control.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
When I read this, I can feel GOD in every word! It is so true!!! I just need to LET GO and hold on to GODS hand!!!! Instead of my own

Terrific message!
LOVE YOUR SUNDAY MESSAGE EACH WEEK! Of course I enjoy your daily messages, but Sunday is my fave!
My father in law always says, “God is great all the time, all the time God is great🙏
Thank you for this post. I needed it today. I have been to women conferences and heard Lysa speak several times and always take away so much. Her book “Uninvited” is one of my favorites and often gifted to those going through life’s difficulties. Thank you for your kingdom work. You are a blessing.
Great word! Oftentimes we feel like we know what is best…if I just “ tweak” this or that, but He clearly knows what is best at the perfect moment!
❤️❤️❤️
Tania,
Thank you for today’s post. That GOD IS ALWAYS GOOD. And that he works in the waiting.. I’ve been going through a lot right now . And the scriptures are a gentle reminder of his love for all of us. I did not know of Lysa. I will have to listen to her on YouTube ..
Thank You
She is the President of Proverbs 31.
Just reading some of your comments. If you want a great study about Gods love for us,get Psalm 23 by Jennifer Rothschild. She packs a lot into one chapter!!!!
Polly, thank you for mentioning that book. I too lost my husband and will be looking for it
Wanted to thank you for your post. I saw a T-shirt recently that said something to the effect of “God is writing your story…
stop trying to take the pen”😉
It spoke directly to my heart!
That is so true. We act like we know what’s best, and we just need to chill and let Him work in us.
I love Lysa too! And yes God is Good! I’m gonna start my day with this prayer! I’m gonna trust God to work out, show up and show out in my situation. Amen!!
Absolutely Beautiful! Thank you for this inspiring message today! Love Lysa!
Thank you so much. I needed to hear this today.
Love this! Thanks for sharing!
Meaningful post. I will look into Lysa as I have not known of her. Thank you for the post.
great reminders, for us all everyday, all day
Thank you for this post!
Thank you for today’s post. our God is so good.
Tania….always enjoy your columns , especially the scripture quotes. Today’s was exceptional ! Keep up the great work !
Tania – thank you for this. I had not heard of Lysa either until this past Christmas when my daughter in law gave me her devotional book ” You’re going to make it”. My husband passed away in July of 2024 and this was just what I needed to help me on this part of my grief journey.
Polly, I’m sorry to hear about your husband passing. Lysa has a lot of sermons on grief, etc., that would help anyone in those times.
Tania what an awesome reminder of how GOOD GOD IS – ALL THE TIME!
I facilitate a Grief Share group on Sundays ay my church and I plan on sharing your message with the participants.
Thanks from my heart 💜
Tania, Thank you for this great message and for giving me realizations to ponder and be thankful for. Have a blessed day!
I love Lysa Terkeurst!!! I’ve had many struggles especially bad in this past year. I have read many of her books and am currently starting her “I want to trust you but I don’t”. I’ve also had the pleasure of seeing her in person at some live events. I also play tug-of-war with God. I picture Him telling me He can’t help me if I don’t let go and let Him ( in a frustrating voice lol). have a blessed day 🙏🤎
I’m sure God talks to almost all of us in that frustrated voice.
Thank you for this wonderful message – always good to remember – gret way to start the day –
God is Good !!! Thank you for this beautiful message, and the thoughtful prayer…Happy Sunday
🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
Thank you for posting this! So good. 🙏🏼♥️
Love, love, love your message this morning! It’s a beautiful day, and God IS good! 🌞🪺🌷🐝
God is good. Thank you for that.
God is most certainly good! And so are you! I am truly grateful for God being in my life.
Thank you, turning my worries over to God is something I struggle with.
I l9ve the movies Bryce Almighty and Evan Almighty. They have such great messages. “God doesn’t give us patience. He gives us opportunities to he patient” is one of my favorites!
Susan, I always loved that movie, but I don’t think I’ve seen Evan Almighty.
A very worthwhile message. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for reminding me that God is listening and God is good
This hits home today. I’m in the beginning stages of divorce from my alcoholic husband. With so many unknowns I can get easily overwhelmed but I trust in Gods plan and guidance. I’m going to listen to those sermons!!! God bless you Tania🙏
I’m so sorry, Jennifer. Lysa went through a 10 year unwanted divorce, so that is where a lot of her sermons come from and deal with.
This is truly a great message. I think I have to hang my hat on the third principle to truly commit to the first. There are things that I just have to have faith in God to accept and realize God is good because he can see the big picture that I can’t.
I really enjoyed this. Your Sunday messages are my favorite.
I just love being reminded that God is good at being God!
Thanks for this post and all you do!
Thank you for a wonderful morning devotional before I head to church!
So true! I will be checking out Lysa’s youtube. I love listening to people that are “new” to me. Thanks Tania! Love your Sunday posts
Let me know if you enjoy her sermons.
3/23/. Thank you for today’s message on, “God is Good.” I needed that message!
I’m glad you enjoyed the message.
I enjoyed your thoughts on God this morning. What you wrote resonates in my life. As my Mom would say, “ let go and let God”. Have a Blessed day. Your blog is awesome.
That’s a wonderful saying.
Thank you for your Sunday posts! It is what I read before I get dressed for church. Thank you so much for your witness. Yes, God is good all the time, and all the time God is good.
Well said….I don’t need to understand everything to trust Him with everything.
Thank you Tania for this reminder.
Just beautiful! Thank you, Tania. 🙏
Amen!
AMEN🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
My husband and I are currently waiting on some potentially life-altering news. We know it’s coming (possibly this week), and I’ll be honest and tell you I’m worried and scared. But in my heart, I know that worry and fear are not things God wants me to lean into. Thank you for the very timely message and reminder that God is good at being God.
Vickie, I’ll say a prayer for you and your husband as you go through this time of uncertainty. At least you know that God is with you, and will not desert you in your time of need.
Amen ❤ lovely thoughts to help start my morning.
Tania, i woke up this morning to find this post just what i needed to remind me once again of the greatness of God and the love he has for us, DAILY. Each day brings challenges and victories and He is still the same loving Father. His joy is to reveal himself to us daily and boy my heart jumps for joy when that happens. thank you again for sharing your words of wisdom and your heart, for it truly touched mine today. many blessings.
I’m so glad you found this post helpful and inspiring. I always pray that my posts touch someone, and it is great to know this one touched you.
When you feel that God has not answered you, you are wrong. He has answered you. No answer is an answer.
Amen, thanks for this!
Thank you for this profound reminder of God’s goodness!
Thank you! I so needed this last night in the middle of the night. Next time I’m going to say this prayer
Enjoyed this today; spoke to me.
