HIT OR MISS – COLORFUL RUANA
Yay! My favorite time of the week is here!!! It is Wednesday, so that means that the week is half over, and the weekend will soon be here. AND, it also means that it is time for my Hit or Miss post. I am showing an outfit each Wednesday and asking for your input. Is the outfit a HIT, or is it a MISS? Plus, would you wear the outfit or parts of the outfit?
With all outfits, there will be items that you love and parts that are only okay. Maybe the proportions are off, the colors do not go well with your skin tone, or the style is too trendy or matronly. Today, I’m challenging you by wearing an orange wrap maxi dress and a colorful ruana. It will be fun to see who loves this look, who would wear it, and who says they can’t wear orange, or that the dress would be too figure-hugging.
This color is high on my radar this year. It seems like I’m grabbing it more and more every time I order something. I especially love the style of this maxi dress since the wrap help to camouflage the stomach area, and that is where I hold most of my weight. Plus, the way the dress drapes and ties to one side helps to create curves which I desperately need since I’m built like a ruler. The bad news is, this orange color is completely sold out in every size, but a light blue and gray version is available. I’m ordered the gray version too since I love this one so much and since it is under $40! I’m wearing a size large.
I love the dress worn by itself, but this Aqua Print Ruana from Chicos makes the dress!!! The Ruana makes a statement, and I’ll be styling it again for you tomorrow to show you another look. It is versatile, and I plan on using it as a bathing suit coverup also. Plus, it covers your arms and creates curves by making your eyes guess how wide your body is. I am always looking for ways to create curves! I’m wearing the S/M Ruana.
Here is a look at the Ruana from the back so that you can gauge the length. It will even be perfect for wearing with shorts since your shorts will still show and not make you look like your naked under the Ruana. Lol!
I once saw a vintage coral bib necklace that I didn’t purchase, and it has haunted me ever since. This Faux-Coral Bib Necklace isn’t the same, but it eased the pain of me not buying the vintage necklace. I love all of the different colored beads and the added charms with the beach theme. This necklace is perfect for a beach vacation, or anytime that you want to add color to your outfit. I’m also wearing the matching Chandelier Earrings, and I’ll link to some other items that will match the necklace below.
It was great to see the sun shining, so I added the Ray-Ban Sunglasses that I bought last year. I’m wearing the Dark Rubber Tortoise/Brown Gradient version, but there are a lot of variations you can pick. These sunglasses have a UV Protection Coating coating, and they are a great medium size, 54 millimeters by 39 millimeters.
Finally, I’m wearing a jute-wrapped wedge heel platform sandal in tan. These wedge sandals are great for wearing with anything all spring and summer, but I’ll try to find some other choices for those who don’t want to wear a high heel. These run true to size, and I am wearing my usual size 9.
Here is how you order:
Now, it is time for your input…Hit or Miss? What do you like about the outfit, and what would you change?

It’s a hit! You look gorgeous in that color and that dress is a stunner. I’m short so it’s too long for me but would love a shorter version. Love the wrap style. Ruanas are not for me but never thought about them as a swimsuit cover. Very clever!
You look gorgeous. Love it all, esp the colors. Yes I would wear it. For me, lower heeled shoes.
So I LOVE the ruana!!!! The fabric on the dress. Not so much. And in FL with the humidity it would stick to skin. But I love the color!!
Total HIT !! love all of it & looks great on you !!
Hit! Great outfit, I am too short for a ruana especially a print one. Those shoes are amazing and a definite for spring or summer.
I’m loving this color too. Just bought a cardigan in this color. Put it on today. Ryan as are a no for me. I bought one from Chicos and never really wore it. One of those items I’d put on and take off. Some one at Goodwill got a nice item.
Tania, that is a beautiful outfit and makes you look so skinny! I love the colors & those cute sandals make it pop! It would be a great outfit for my high school reunion!
Tania
I love the dress and the ruana. The colors are gorgeous, however, I am petite and the dress would never work for me.
Would you tell us if you have warm or cool undertones? Every color seems to look good on you .
You look really cute in this outfit. It looks to me like you could be headed to a summer wedding but, unfortunately, this one’s a miss for me for several reasons:
1. It’s just too dressy. I don’t have anywhere to wear it styled this way.
2. I don’t do maxi dresses, especially in the summer. Why add all that fabric to stick to your legs?
3. It’s too clingy.
4. I don’t trust wrap dresses to stay put, though this one is better since only the skirt wraps
5. I prefer flatter sandals.
I do, however, like the colors and could see wearing the ruana with summer pants and shorter dresses for visiting overly air conditioned places or as a swimsuit coverup.
This outfit is definitely a hit for you, but isn’t for me because I’m only 5 ft tall. I love the colors in this outfit today.
