How I Mix And Match My Clothing To Create More Outfits
I love versatile clothing and finding items I can wear in multiple ways. While looking for clothing that would work for Thanksgiving (forgiving in the tummy area), I ran across these gorgeous Merlot pieces. I loved them and thought they would be great for Thanksgiving, but then I started wondering if I could wear them in different ways. So, here’s how I mix and match my clothing from Kohl’s to create different looks.
I started this outfit with a mockneck sweater tank from Nine West in Cherry Merlot. This entire outfit is also available in black and a beautiful muted green, but I thought this color looked like fall. Anytime I see a ribbed item, I will size it up, and it is a good thing that I did. I’m wearing a large, and it has a body-skimming fit.
The fine gauge knit duster cardigan matches the sweater tank perfectly. I like a longer cardigan so I can wear them later with leggings and not feel uncomfortable. Plus, a cardigan hides my waist’s sides and helps me appear thinner than I am. I’m wearing a medium, but I think I would have liked it better in a large. I like my cardigans to be a tad oversized, so I can wrap myself up in them if I choose.
Most of the time, I’ll wear a cardigan open, so I will either tie the belts in the back or take them off and cut the belt loops. If you have a cardigan that’s too large for you and doesn’t show your outfit, you can tie the belt in the back and make the cardigan stay open.
Did you notice my block heel neutral-colored pumps? These pumps look so nice with everything, and since they are by Easy Street, they are comfortable also. These run TTS, and I’m wearing my usual size 9.
Let’s mix and match my clothing for a different look. I kept on the sweater tank and matching sweater pants but switched up the top for a different look. These sweater pants are stretchy and comfortable and perfect for Thanksgiving. I wore an outfit almost identical to what I wore last year for Thanksgiving. The outfit was super comfortable, and I wore it a lot at the house. It feels like elevated loungewear, and I like to look nice even if I’m not going anywhere. I’m wearing a medium, and I think I would like them better if I sized them up to a large.
I’m not usually a fan of a marled print, but I loved the look of this wrap sweater so much that I decided to try it. Do you think it was a coincidence that it matched my Merlot outfit perfectly? You don’t have to worry about the end of the belt falling since it is tacked in place. I’m wearing a medium, and it has a relaxed fit, which is perfect since I’ll be wearing it over another top.
I usually keep my jewelry pretty simple for Thanksgiving, so I only added these twisted gold-tone hoops. These are lightweight and don’t hurt your ears.
Let’s switch things up again. Now I’m going to mix and match my clothing for a casual look. I left on the sweater tank and wrap sweater, but I added a pair of flare-leg jeans to my look.
I love these dark-wash flare jeans!!! I think flare jeans are universally flattering, and they sure make wearing boots easier. Dark wash jeans are great for a casual look, but they can be worn dressier also. These high-waisted jeans also come in medium and light wash, and they have the perfect amount of stretch. Yes, you can wear these for Thanksgiving since they have enough “give” to them to keep you comfortable after your big meal. I’m wearing my usual size 8, and they fit me great.
These caramel dress ankle boots are gorgeous in person. I love how they can be worn with jeans or a dress, and they will elevate all your outfits. If you want to see how I wore these boots with a pair of trouser jeans, then check out my elevated fall style with trouser jeans from Kohl’s post.

I love everything presented . I would like to see more items that could also, be offered to purchased in
Petite sizes, also . It is frustrating to see items that are only in regular sizes where , others and myself ,
are unable to purchase them due, to the sizing .
I like the look with the jeans but I tend to like more casual outfits. The first one looks great on you!
Wish I had seen this before I shopped at Kohl’s today!! The first outfit is stunning! Not sure I could wear the mock turtleneck. I also thought the wrap sweater looked great. Will print these looks and go back to Kohl’s – especially since I got Kohl’s cash with my purchases today!!
I like the jeans look best because I think it’s the most flattering to those killer legs of yours! I had to laugh when you said you had piles of clothes in your bedroom. So do I and it drives my husband crazy. What do you do with the clothes you purge?
I give away a lot to family and friends. I’m going to have a SHOP on my website and add a few items at a time to it so that my followers can shop for these clothes. That is my plan, I just hope it works.
What a great idea! Please let us know when this feature is up and running!
It has help me a lot to watch you everyday. I worked full time in healthcare middle management for over 37 years and everyday I had to be put together. It’s taken me some time to learn to dress casual. I like the idea of Jeans, sweater’s and cute jackets. I Don’t feel so bumpy and under dressed. Once you have had to look like you just step out of a magazine everyday it’s hard to change your wardrobe to alot more casual looks. At least for me it is. I like to be put together well. By watching you it has help me still dress nice but learn that casual can be very nice too. You give great wardrobe ideas from head to toe. Thank you!
I love the monotone outfit and the look with the jeans! I’m not sure I would feel comfortable in sweater pants though. Haven’t worn those since college, LOL! All the outfits look great on you!
I am not a fan of monotone. Last outfit is my favorite! Casual and comfy! Looks great on you too!
Since finding your website, 50isnotold, I have purchased so much more clothing! I loved the wine colored coat and boots (that I don’t really need). Shhhhh, don’t let my husband know. One question for you, how big is your closet?!?!
Lol!!! I like your style, Roberta! The answer about my closet is…not big enough. Haha! I have a ton of stuff in the basement and lots upstairs. I also have piles all around my bedroom. After the first of the year, I’m going to do a purge and get rid of a bunch of stuff. I’ve got to make room for new things I’m going to buy.
The jeans and sweater outfit is my fave!! I tend to lean towards more casual outfits. Love Kohls!!!
I like the merlot outfit on you the best. It looks dressy but still comfortable!
I love the long cardigan outfit. It looks so nice on you. I may get it.
