50 Is Not Old | Combat NegativityI am naturally a glass-half-full kind of gal. My husband tells me that I live in a tra-la-la-la-la world, and I am fine with that. I see the good in people and hardly ever see the bad. I assume that everyone is going to do the right thing, and will treat everyone fairly. Some of you will say this is naive, and I actually agree with you. But, I prefer to be occasionally disappointed, instead of looking at the negatives all the time.50 Is Not Old | Combat NegativityWith all that being said, how do you combat negativity when it comes your way? Do you know someone in your life who is a “Debbie Downer?” (Sorry if your name is Debbie, no harm intended) Are YOU that person?50 Is Not Old | Combat Negativity

I never intended for this blog to talk about issues or even be an inspirational type of service. It is supposed to be a lookbook with links to the clothing items. However, I find myself getting something on my mind, and this is a perfect outlet for me. Sorry if you are caught in the crossfire.50 Is Not Old | Combat Negativity

I had a comment on the blog a while back, that was harsh. And this one commenter on Pinterest left a comment that said I looked 60. If that wasn’t enough, they went back and said, “no 70.” One blogger I know almost quit blogging because of the mean comments that people were leaving. Thankfully she stuck it out, and is doing great now.50 Is Not Old | Combat Negativity

I know that my outfits are not all winners, and I know that I might should have worn a different pair of shoes or carried a different purse. I have never taken a fashion course and I am not an expert in anything fashion related. I simply get dressed in the morning and take a picture before I head out the door.50 Is Not Old | Combat Negativity

I hope you enjoy my outfits and can tolerate my ramblings. I have grown to love the blog, and all you gurls who participate. I feel like I now know some of you ?50 Is Not Old | Combat NegativityHave you caught on to me being sneaky? I throw in an outfit that most of you will not like, because of the extremely distressed jeans, while doing a post on negativity. Hahaha Now you will feel bad it you don’t say something nice. 50 Is Not Old | Combat NegativityThis is my laid back, take it easy, go shopping on a rainy Saturday kind of look. I bought this silky t-shirt a couple of years ago. I don’t own a lot of t-shirts, well not many that you would wear out in public. I have a lot that are my sleeping shirts and cleaning (who am I kidding, I don’t clean) shirts.

They are soft and comfortable, but I know how most people feel about these jeans. The last time I wore these jeans, I styled them with my monogrammed sneakers. This time, I have on a pair of Chanel espadrilles that were a hand-me-down gift.

Distressed jeans: Similar | Levi’s | Plus50 Is Not Old | Combat NegativitySince I was feeling a little sassy, I put on my leather cuff bracelet that says, G.R.I.T.S. That stand for Girls Raised In The South. How cute is that for this Tennessee gurl that is now living in a Virginia world?

Bracelet:  Similar50 Is Not Old | Combat NegativityMy gray satchel is by Aimee Kestenberg. I bought mine for next to nothing because it’s shoulder strap had a malfunction. I bought it thinking if it couldn’t be fixed, then I would just carry it by the short handles, and forget the shoulder straps. I took it back to work and gave it to Gerald (he can fix anything). Five minutes later he was back, purse fixed good as new. Sometimes it pays to work in a lumber company.?50 Is Not Old | Combat NegativityIn case you were wondering about the harsh comment. I approved it, and then I smiled sweetly to myself and typed, “Thank you very much for your encouraging words.” So, how do you combat negativity? With kindness, and of course don’t forget to say, “Bless Your Heart.”

I like the laid back look. I don’t work, so I need comfy clothes options. I live in MIL’s house in the basement. It is chilly spring/fall, freezing in winter. It can even be chilly in summer. So I need to wear pants. But, the sweat pants are not always cute. Anytime your wear something comfy I pay attention to. The people who said you looked really old are probably 18 yrs old. They think all people are old. They will have a revelation when they are our age…lol

  2. I started reading this, admiring your outfit, etc. then read about the comments. I was so infuriated that I had to reply at once and I usually never reply. Please ignore those – the first thing I notice is your smile. I have laughed at your commentary and enjoyed seeing what you wear – especially that it’s more from your closet and not another advertising blog. Please keep up the great work!

I enjoy your blog a lot! As someone else pointed out, you use color creatively. Your outfits are not boring. They get me thinking about what I could wear too. Do I wear shredded jeans? No, but I think they look cute on you! I also enjoy the humor and good feeling evident in your postings. So keep it up!!!

  4. You are by far, my favorite blogger! (Not that that means anything) but, you are. You’ve helped me look at my closet in a whole new light. I love that you have “regular pieces” from “regular stores” and throw in a bit of thrift, whimsy, magic, style – your outfits are amazing, fun, & relatable. So are your stories. I appreciate everything you share. Copied you today, actually! Trying to send photo but not seeing the button ? (Denim dress with beige blazer) anyway…. Please keep doing what you do. You give lots of us great ideas & warm our hearts! sounds like someone is trying to fix them self by breaking others, which just doesn’t work.

    1. Mary, you would be surprised how much this means. Blogging takes a lot of time and effort, and produces very little money. So believe me, the comments are what keeps me going?

  5. I’m so glad I found your blog! I’ve been following for about a month now and always look forward to your posts and what awesome outfit you’re wearing. Love your distressed denim and tee. Being an 80’s rocker I still wear distressed denim and tees even at 52 and probably always will. My mom still tells me she can patch them for me…HaHa!
The person who left the negative comment must be going through some hard times or have a lot of pain in their life. I guess all we can do is wish them peace and happiness.

I,m fairly new to your blog, and now have my daughter and myself following your daughters as well. I love the fact that you look put together and stylish in every photo, and some things I wouldn’t wear, but I have borrowed many of your looks, and worked in in with what I have in my closet? Keep up the great work, and I look forward to reading your. Log every day.?

  7. I work in a high school and this past year was kicked off by a high energy, life loving guy who also happens to be our football coach. He reads inspirational, motivational books and he told us about “The Energy Bus”; it’s a great book about negativity being a life sucker. Since I’m the librarian I immediately ordered 5 copies and it’s been read by most of the faculty. I love looking at blogs and seeing what you gals are wearing. I kind of think it’s been a replacement for all the fashion mags I once read. Would I wear everything I see? No but I know fashion/ style is a personal preference. Keep posting and don’t let the negativity get to you. By the way, I picked up Draw the Circle 40 Day Prayer – thank you! – it was just what I needed!

  8. I am slightly older than you, but not 60 yet. I LOVE your blog and enjoy reading it daily. Keep up the good work and keep dressing to inspire others.
