50 Is Not Old | Combat NegativityI am naturally a glass-half-full kind of gal. My husband tells me that I live in a tra-la-la-la-la world, and I am fine with that. I see the good in people and hardly ever see the bad. I assume that everyone is going to do the right thing, and will treat everyone fairly. Some of you will say this is naive, and I actually agree with you. But, I prefer to be occasionally disappointed, instead of looking at the negatives all the time.50 Is Not Old | Combat NegativityWith all that being said, how do you combat negativity when it comes your way? Do you know someone in your life who is a “Debbie Downer?” (Sorry if your name is Debbie, no harm intended) Are YOU that person?50 Is Not Old | Combat Negativity

I never intended for this blog to talk about issues or even be an inspirational type of service. It is supposed to be a lookbook with links to the clothing items. However, I find myself getting something on my mind, and this is a perfect outlet for me. Sorry if you are caught in the crossfire.50 Is Not Old | Combat Negativity

I had a comment on the blog a while back, that was harsh. And this one commenter on Pinterest left a comment that said I looked 60. If that wasn’t enough, they went back and said, “no 70.” One blogger I know almost quit blogging because of the mean comments that people were leaving. Thankfully she stuck it out, and is doing great now.50 Is Not Old | Combat Negativity

I know that my outfits are not all winners, and I know that I might should have worn a different pair of shoes or carried a different purse. I have never taken a fashion course and I am not an expert in anything fashion related. I simply get dressed in the morning and take a picture before I head out the door.50 Is Not Old | Combat Negativity

I hope you enjoy my outfits and can tolerate my ramblings. I have grown to love the blog, and all you gurls who participate. I feel like I now know some of you ?50 Is Not Old | Combat NegativityHave you caught on to me being sneaky? I throw in an outfit that most of you will not like, because of the extremely distressed jeans, while doing a post on negativity. Hahaha Now you will feel bad it you don’t say something nice. 50 Is Not Old | Combat NegativityThis is my laid back, take it easy, go shopping on a rainy Saturday kind of look. I bought this silky t-shirt a couple of years ago. I don’t own a lot of t-shirts, well not many that you would wear out in public. I have a lot that are my sleeping shirts and cleaning (who am I kidding, I don’t clean) shirts.

They are soft and comfortable, but I know how most people feel about these jeans. The last time I wore these jeans, I styled them with my monogrammed sneakers. This time, I have on a pair of Chanel espadrilles that were a hand-me-down gift.

Distressed jeans: Similar | Levi’s | Plus50 Is Not Old | Combat NegativitySince I was feeling a little sassy, I put on my leather cuff bracelet that says, G.R.I.T.S. That stand for Girls Raised In The South. How cute is that for this Tennessee gurl that is now living in a Virginia world?

Bracelet:  Similar50 Is Not Old | Combat NegativityMy gray satchel is by Aimee Kestenberg. I bought mine for next to nothing because it’s shoulder strap had a malfunction. I bought it thinking if it couldn’t be fixed, then I would just carry it by the short handles, and forget the shoulder straps. I took it back to work and gave it to Gerald (he can fix anything). Five minutes later he was back, purse fixed good as new. Sometimes it pays to work in a lumber company.?50 Is Not Old | Combat NegativityIn case you were wondering about the harsh comment. I approved it, and then I smiled sweetly to myself and typed, “Thank you very much for your encouraging words.” So, how do you combat negativity? With kindness, and of course don’t forget to say, “Bless Your Heart.”

Wearing black with jeans and sandals all the time and just didn’t know where to go from there! I love trendy but am nervous to try it! But following you has given me confidence to try new things and I’m loving it! Sonetimes I try something and would love your opinion! Haha! Your writing is fun to read and makes us feel like we are friends. Don’t change anything ! I look forward do reading your post everyday and can’t wait to see what you are wearing!! I too have become obsessed wth the pixie pants from old navy ??

I usually check your blog first thing in the morning but for some reason I missed this post. After reading today’s post I had to read these comments. I love to see your smiling face every morning! You give me inspiration to put bright colors together and not wear black, black and black. Yesterday I wore a white cotton shirt, olive cotton pants, a denim jacket and a multi layered red necklace and red shoes. Although the distressed jeans are not my thing, I enjoy seeing different looks. Keep up the good work!

  3. I read this post after reading today’s post about your sister – which I loved, by the way. Then I wondered what on earth you were talking about. I read your blog every day so I skipped over here to see what the brouhaha was. Guess what? I’m one of your readers who skipped this one as soon as I saw the distressed jeans. Hehehe. As I read the post today, I immediately picked up on the irony of wearing something that some people (like me) wouldn’t like as you wrote about negativity. That made me giggle. As a big Pollyanna person, I just “shake it off”. (Now I have that in my head.)
Funny story about distressed jeans: When my son (who is now almost 38) was in middle school, he came down dressed for school in a pair of jeans with a rip across the knees. He was so happy that had finally happened to them. I told him to take them off and he wouldn’t, so I leaned over and ripped the jeans the rest of the way. It was not my finest mommy moment. (I recently told him that was one of my big parenting regrets. Guess what? He didn’t even remember it.)
Keep wearing what you like. We all enjoy seeing your outfits.

I love your t-shirt, and this post! It seems that there is always someone out there that wants to say something hurtful. It is just as easy to just say nothing. I am guilty of speaking my mind, so anyone that knows me knows not to ask for my opinion if they don’t really want it. LOL I am also guilty of always wearing black, and it has nothing to do with my age, even though I am older . I try to “like” the same piece of clothing in a “color”, but a new, crisp black top or pants will always win out with me. I like color on others, and I will occasionally wear something other than black when I head out to the gym in the mornings. .I even have a pair of blue workout capri pants. Nonetheless, I think you have an amazing style and sense of fashion. You are beautiful and quite the fashionista. I hope you have a great day. 🙂

  5. When I encounter negativity, my first thought is, they need God in their lives, and they need someone to pray for them. So I pray for them. This takes the dark cloud away that hangs over my head when people are mean. When people act poorly, they must have something bad going on in their lives. Try to remember this and show compassion for these people.

  6. Sometimes the only way people can feel good about themselves is to put others down. It’s sad and I feel sorry for them. If I’m ever feeling so bad about myself that I need to go online and post a negative comment to someone I’ve never even met, then just shoot me.

Love the cute shoes. Perfect outfit for bee bopping around town!

  7. Keep on smiling Tania…..You can’t please everybody….???

  8. Great blog you have its always fun to read you are so easy and down to earth

  9. It seems I had to scroll forever just to comment, you have so many encouraging comments from your followers! Please keep your great attitude and your uplifting and great fashion blog! Reading your posts are very uplifting for me, from your humorous stories ( a few from your childhood which I related to, we are the same age and married same amount of years! ), and I love your clothing style and color combinations, and your Sunday posts of faith. Thank you Tania for all you do!

  10. I love your blog and I think you are a beautiful and gracious woman. Thank you for inspiring women over 50. I believe in the power of combating negativity with a heavy dose of positivity! You go gurl!!!
