HOW TO GET MORE VERSATILITY FROM YOUR CLOTHING
Versatility should be my middle name. Just call me Tania Versatility Stephens from now on. I love it when I can take one item and find many different ways to wear it since that stretches my wardrobe. A dress can be more difficult to wear in different ways since it is both the top and the bottom. But, adding a complementary item changes the look and usually looks more polished and put together.
So that you have an idea of how this dress fits, I will give you my dimensions. I am 5’6″ tall, and I weigh between 155-165 at any given time. I usually wear a size 10 in pants, a 12 in dresses, and a medium or a large in tops.
You can’t get more basic than this camel colored sweater dress. It is a great neutral, and it can be worn with a host of other items. I’ll show you a few items that I added to the dress to give you an idea of how to switch things up. The dress is a great length since it hits right at my knee, and it works fabulously for wearing with a knee boot. I ordered a large dress, but I think it is a tiny bit too big for me. The sleeves are too long, and it needs to be tighter in the chest area. The dress has plenty of room through the tummy area, so I don’t think that sizing down to a medium would show any lumps or bumps.
I wore this fringed cocoon-ruana wrap on Monday with a pair of cashmere joggers, and I wanted to show you another way to style the sweater. I also added the Davis necklace that comes with three chains that can all be removed from the clasp. I love how versatile this necklace is! You can wear one, two, or three chains, and you can even attach other necklaces that you own to the clasp for a custom necklace of your own making. This necklace comes in three colors, so you have your choice of stones. My bracelets are the Beckett link bracelet and the Maggie bangle bracelet.
I love the chic style of this ruana and how cute it looks with this dress. The sweater is super soft and comfy, and it provides a little bit of warmth. I love all of the neutral colors, and I think it will look great with jeans too.
You can see that the ruana is long in the back, so it will also look great with leggings. I love a versatile item!!!
This look is more polished and professional than the ruana above. It is funny how different the two styles look even though it is the same dress. I love the houndstooth blazer, and I think the colors look fabulous with this dress.
The schoolboy blazer is a classic fit and style. I can’t wait to wear this blazer with a pair of jeans and a chambray button-up shirt! That would be so “Ralph Lauren” but at a fraction of the cost. I am wearing a size 12 in the blazer, but I did notice that some of the sizes are limited or already sold out.
To finish up my neutral outfit, I added my Sam Edelman knee boots that I bought last year. These boots are the same ones that I wore in yesterday’s post, and they are sold out. Boots in this color are in high demand and hard to find, so when you spot them in the store or online, you better grab them because they don’t last long. Here are a few that are very similar to the ones that I have.
This dark gray wool and cashmere duster is such a beautiful shade of gray. I love pairing gray and camel together because I think they look fabulous together. This duster is super soft like you would expect from cashmere, and I love the long length that looks great with dresses. Warning though, this runs big in my opinion. I am wearing a medium, and I think that it is still too big for me. Unfortunately, I am going to have to send this duster back.
The duster might be too big for me, but this gorgeous plaid coat is perfect! The oversized plaid print is so pretty, and I loved the plush soft fabric of the coat. It was late in the afternoon when I took these photos, so the sun started to set. The reason that I am telling you this is because the shade throws the colors off. I’ve added a photo from the website below because it is a better representation of the true color.
I like the classic trench coat design of this coat that allows you to tie it at the waist. This is the kind of coat that will become your go-to coat for every day. What was your favorite look? Dress by itself, with the fringed ruana, the houndstooth schoolboy blazer, the gray cashmere duster, or the oversized plaid trench coat? I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts.

I love it all!!! Great ideas!!
Ruana and blazer are my top choices! The camel and gray are great colors for you, Tania!
Love the scarf and grey is such a nice color on you. All great looks.
tough choice but the ruana wins!
Just had to tell you I broke down and bought the grey cashmere duster as Christmas gift to myself! Thanks for showing me. I’ve been looking for something like it. ❤️
I like all the looks but was drawn to the grey cashmere duster. It’s gorgeous and I like grey and tan together too. Beautiful as always.
I like the trench and the ruana!
This isnt about the clothing but about your hair color. It looks like you are going a little more cool? Not a warm blonde at all and looks so good on you. I’m letting my grays, silvers, whatever naturals come in and I prefer artic blonde. Keep the color it really does compliment.
I absolutely love the dress and ruana combo. I just bought a sweater dress and now realize, after this post, that I can wear it more ways than just on its own. Thanks for the inspiration.
You look beautiful in this dress. ❤️
My favorite is the gray cashmere worn with the dress
Great post! The outfits are just lovely on you! Good ideas on versatility!
I love the ruana and the plaid coat the best for me. I think you look great in all of them. Although my eye didn’t like the solid grey duster and the solid dress. I tend not to like an all solid outfit, which is not as versatile, which is what your theme was for the post. I tend to gravitate towards patterns on things and I have learned I have to deliberately tell myself to get a solid for my basics. This post shows how versatile a solid color dress can be. Thanks, that really is good for me to see. I also loved the red coat you wore earlier in the week. I am noticing all your coats in each post, I think the cold weather is affecting what I am interested in. It’s been a long time sense I was wearing shorts.
Love all these! I gave away all my sweater dresses when I moved to SoCal and retired. They were one of my favorite styles paired with boots or tights & flats. You look fabulous!
I love this dress but I am too fat to wear sweater dresses!
I like the trench best.
Another fabulous neutrals look! I love that dress with the houndstooth blazer! You’re right about the sizing. I am a similar size but petite (take off six inches) so I love that you share your proportions. Love the real real fashion!
Camel is your color! The camel and grey together…You look absolutely stunning in that combo. Your hair is fabulous btw. Keep up the awesome work. I just love your blog.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours!
I like it with the ruana the best!
Love it with the plaid trench jacket. Thank you for the daily posts. Really look forward to them.
My first choice is the ruana although with a chunky necklace I would also love the gray duster
Love the neutral tones with the ruana but also loved the contrast with the plaid coat! Thanks for always offering different styling options.
The blazer with the dress is my favorite look. It is professional and warm looking. The dress by itself is practically perfect fir most occasions, in my opinion.
I like the blazer or the plaid coat with the dress the best. Great outfits!
Love all your options. I was unable to share any of the pics to Pinterest today though.
Love it with the ruana!
Love this post! More ways to change up the basics is what I need!! Great ideas and colors!
