HOW TO LOOK FESTIVE FOR THE 4TH OF JULY

Hey, y’all, the 4th of July is less than a week away! The fireworks are about to start, and I am busy putting out my 4th of July decorations. My granddaughter, Emersyn, has a birthday on the 3rd of July, so there is even more reason for me to celebrate the 4th.

My other grandchildren that live in Tennessee will be here tomorrow and staying with me until after the 4th. This entire week is going to be one big party with laughter, squeals, running through the house, and probably a few tears too. That is all from me; there is no telling what the grandchildren will do. LOL!
Today, I will be bringing you a few outfit ideas on what to wear on the 4th, and my blogging friends, Jo-Lynne and Cyndi, are doing the same. We want you to look festive for the 4th, so be sure to check out their picks also. When I first started blogging, I linked up with these wonderful ladies for a post. Gosh, things sure have changed. You can check out that post here!

The weather here in Virginia can be hot and humid one minute and cold and rainy the next. I usually have a couple of outfits in mind for any outdoor event to be prepared. If the rains come, I go inside. Wet and soggy is not my cup of tea, so in the house, I’ll go.
If the sun is out, then it is usually hot and humid. I prefer a loose sundress over jeans or shorts because I think they are cooler. Maybe it is the amount of air that can circulate under a dress, but I find them more comfortable for some reason. I found this cute blue and white striped sundress that I thought would be perfect for the 4th.
I’ve already had the question about, “what kind of bra do you wear with this dress?” I have recently become a huge fan of Spanx bras, and I wear them every day. Because I loved my everyday bra, I decided to try the strapless one also. So far, I am liking the strapless bra, and it doesn’t seem to slip and slide as some do. They seem to run true to size, and here are the ones that I am wearing.

During holidays, I like looking festive, but I also want to wear my clothing for more than a week or so. So, for the 4th of July, I usually wear clothes in red, white, and blue colors, but not stars and stripes. My sundress is the blue that I wanted, and it happens to have stripes, so it is perfect.
This dress does a great job of hiding any tummy issues you might have. I carry all of my weight in my stomach region, so I love that it hides my lumps and bumps. I am wearing a medium, and you can see that it is plenty big on me. Usually, I wear a size 12 in dresses, so I think this dress runs large.

Now for the stars! I don’t think that I have worn a headband before, but I LOVE how this looks! I think that it is my new short hairstyle because headbands have never looked cute on me before. This navy embellished headband has metallic gold stars that “pop” against the dark background. This accessory is under $10.00, and it makes the entire outfit, in my opinion.

Remember, I mentioned that the weather could get cool here in Virginia. The nights are chilly, and I usually freeze, so I keep a sweater handy at all times. You can add the sweater as an accessory by wearing it around your waist or shoulders, and then when the temperatures drop, just slip it over the dress.

Or, you can choose to ditch the dress entirely and wear this tie-dye sweater with a pair of shorts or jeans. I am always cold, so having something warm on my arms is usually how I dress. I could have added a denim jacket or a cardigan to the dress and gotten the same result, but I wanted to show you another outfit. Lol!

I LOVE this tie-dye look, and the sweater is the perfect weight for summer nights. It is lightweight, so it isn’t too hot for a summer afternoon. It has a slim-fit style, so I ordered a large one for myself. I like having a relaxed fit and one that I can layer a button-up, and it not be too tight.
My favorite inseam for me is between 5-7 inches. This white denim pair is 7 1/2″ long, and I really like the length of these. These shorts sit slightly below the waist and have the traditional 5 pocket style. The leg opening is great and isn’t too tight. Since I have large thighs, I try to stay away from anything that hugs my legs too tightly. I also don’t want my shorts to fit me too tight around the hips since that can cause issues, and your pockets won’t lie flat. Plus, if your shorts are too tight, then you are usually uncomfortable in the crotch area, and that is a big no-no.
I am wearing my usual size 30 in these shorts, so I think that they run TTS.

Flip-flops are something that I wear a lot in the summer months. I like letting my feet breathe and get some sunshine on them. But, I also love the ease of slipping them on and off. I styled two different ones in today’s post, and both would be perfect for the 4th or any time of the season. The solid red pair (comes in lots of other colors) and the gingham pair are both size 9, which is my usual size. So, I think they run true to size.

I am so glad that you joined me today, and if this is your first time visiting me, please come back again soon. Don’t forget to checkout out Jo-Lynne and Cyndi’s blogs; you will love both of their styles. Jo-Lynne was an inspiration to me when I first started, and she still is someone that I can call on for help. And, I call on her quite a bit! Lol!

You have come a long way with fashion since 2016!
That hat is hideous! Lol 😊
Absolutely love today’s post!
PS- Your the only blogger I follow anymore, who I feel I can really relate too. I did follow 3 others, but chose to follow only one in 2021. 🌻😊🌻
Wow! That is humbling. Thanks so much!
Oh, my word! I am still laughing at your comment! I can’t believe that you didn’t like my hat. Hahaha!
Y’all are about the only three fashion bloggers I follow any more. I’m so glad you all are working together!
Can you tell me about the V necklace you’re wearing with the sundress?
That is awesome that you follow the three of us!!! That V necklace was one from Rodan and Fields, so it is not available for purchase.
Love the headband! Link not working. Wear did you find it?
Thank you!
Sorry, Pat. I’ll go and fix the link right now. But, here it is for you: https://shopstyle.it/l/bvQcV
I watched the accessories video with Susan and Jennifer and Susan had a scarf tied so cute. I think that look might be coming back this summer. I love headbands but I think the secret is the height behind the band. You have plenty of height. Your hair looks great.
If I wore dresses, I would wear the blue stripe dress. It is a little bit country to me. Reminds me of pillow cases and fresh air. 🙂
I bet the dress would look adorable with cowboy boots and a denim jacket!!!
Tania, My daughter’s birthday is also on July 3. We always told her all the fireworks were for celebrating her birthday. She’s 35 now but I think a part of her still thinks the big celebration is for her birthday lol.
That’s what we tell Emersyn too!
Both very cute outfits and that headband does look cute w your shorter haircut! You look so thin & styling in those shorts & sweater! And thx for Linkin Cyndi & JoLynn!
Charlcy, I never thought that I would like a headband, but it looks so stinking cute!
I especially like the shorts and sweater outfit. Dresses are more comfortable in the heat, but I’m a shorts, capris or pants kinda gal. The headband is super cute also. The outfit looks great on you. You look so slim in it. I know you mentioned before, but could you again tell us your dieting secret? You are looking so fabulous!!
Lol! My dieting secret is coming to visit me this weekend…maybe I’ll talk about it then!
Okay, this is probably a crazy question but I struggle with this issue – what bra are you wearing with your cute stripe sundress?
Erica, I need to go in and edit my post to mention that. Thanks. Here is the strapless bra that I’ve been wearing lately. In fact, I’ve switched to this bra for my everyday bra also. I will link those in my post if you want to go back in and see those.

Great outfits for the 4th. We have a cookout to go to that day at a friend’s house so I’m on the hunt for something to wear. I love scarves and headbands on you!!! They are both very flattering.
I couldn’t believe how much I liked that headband!
