50 IS NOT OLD | I AM SEEING STRIPES EVERYWHERE | FASHION OVER 40I bet every one of you has a song that will evoke a memory. If you hear the song start playing on the radio or television then the memories will start flooding back to you. I had this happen to me over the weekend but not with a song. My memories came flooding back to me when I saw a flowering crabapple tree in my son’s yard.
50 IS NOT OLD | I AM SEEING STRIPES EVERYWHERE | FASHION OVER 40When I lived in an apartment complex in Cookeville, TN there was a huge flowering crabapple tree around the corner from my apartment. All of the mailboxes were there under the tree for the apartments on that side of the building. Every afternoon when I got off from work I would park my car and then walk around the side of the building to see if I had any mail. It never failed that I would run into Joe as I would be walking back. This was well before we had started dating or really even talking. Sometimes we would smile, sometimes we would say hello, but then as the time went on we would stop and talk for a bit. Years later I mentioned to Joe about how it was so funny how we would always run into each other around the flowering crabapple tree. That is when he confessed that he would watch for me to come home and just happen to leave his apartment at that time. Awwwww. Don’t tell him that I told you, he has an image to keep up. Lol!!!50 IS NOT OLD | I AM SEEING STRIPES EVERYWHERE | FASHION OVER 40I struggled with this dress by Vince Camuto. I loved the way it looked on me. I loved the way it fit. I loved all of the different angles and patterns. But, I just kept hearing my mother telling me that I looked like a referee or a zebra. Lol. She didn’t actually tell me those things but I know my mother and she WOULD. I bought a beautiful St. Johns knit outfit once and then decided to sell it on eBay because I didn’t like it. She told me that no one was going to buy that outfit because it looked like a band uniform. ? She was wrong and it sold for over 350.00! I really like that this dress slips over your head and that it was machine washable. Plus, I am a huge fan of stripes this year! This dress also comes in Plus size which is great.

50 IS NOT OLD | I AM SEEING STRIPES EVERYWHERE | FASHION OVER 40I chose pearls today for my jewelry. The earrings are small seed pearls in a button style. Since they are no longer available on the Plunder Design website I will link to some similar ones below. I love the pearl necklace and I had hoped that it would come out in the new spring catalog but it didn’t. This was part of a Plunder Posse one month and I love all the different tassels that are attached to it. In case you are not familiar with the Plunder Posse, it is a monthly subscription service where you pay a flat fee of 25.00 and you receive 1 to 3 pieces of jewelry each month. You can enroll and unenroll with no fees. Each month the Posse is announced at the first of the month so you have plenty of time to decide if you want your order to process. The date you order is the date that your shipment will process each month. The bracelets are three individual elastic band bracelets.

50 IS NOT OLD | I AM SEEING STRIPES EVERYWHERE | FASHION OVER 40This is a better view of the skirt of the dress. You can really see all of the different angles here. The black latticework shoes are an older pair but they sure don’t look it. This is a pair of Michael Kors that I think are so elegant. A pointed toe will elongate your legs and make you look taller. Even if you don’t wear heels you can still wear a pointed toe for the effect.

50 IS NOT OLD | I AM SEEING STRIPES EVERYWHERE | FASHION OVER 40Here is the dreaded back shot. I really did love how the dress fit and how it hung on my body. If it had been in a solid color I would have kept it in a minute. Or, if my mother’s voice wasn’t running through my mind I might have kept it. Lol! 50 IS NOT OLD | I AM SEEING STRIPES EVERYWHERE | FASHION OVER 40The other day I was talking to a lady about Rodan + Fields, she had just recently signed on as a consultant. She was asking me how things worked and I was trying to help her get her business started. She then said, “I don’t want to bother my friends and family.” I just about spewed out my drink. I said to her, “so don’t.” Why on earth would you ever think that I want you to bother your friends??? If you find a great new cake recipe would you want to tell your friends? What if you went to the best movie last night, would you want to tell your friends? What if your friend kept telling you about a cake recipe or a movie, would that bother you???? Why, oh why, would you ever think that telling people you know about the best skincare that you have ever used, the skincare that has erased your sun damage, the skincare that has helped you to age backward, and the skincare brand that has been named the #1 skincare in all of North America to be bothersome? If I was your friend and you DIDN’T tell me that is when I would be mad. Why would you know about something that good and not tell me??? So, I am telling you about a business that has truly become a passion for me. I see what it has done for others and it makes me so proud to be associated in just a tiny way with this amazing company and these amazing doctors.

  1. I like the stripes and I firmly believe you could make bib overalls classy, but I did not like the weird hemlines. One part looked like an apron to me and the long points were not flattering to your legs.

    1. Carole, that made me snicker just a little.

  2. That dress is fabulous! Stripes are everywhere this season. I’m not a huge fan, but I did buy a dress and a top with vertical stripes too. Love your blog. You always have the sweetest stories.

I’m so grateful you posted an outfit with stripes!! I was online ordering spring clothing, I chose a striped dress and to my surprise, a task bar dropped down asking for my age. I clicked on 52 and was given a response back that it was not age appropriate! Thank you Tania for always showing us “Seasoned To Perfection” girls that we can wear stripes if we want to!

    1. Kim, I would love to know what that website was. That is just not cool!!! Talk about boycotting! I am 57 and will be 58 next month and I don’t like anyone telling me what I can or can’t wear especially if it is based on age.

  4. Hi. I guess I’m the odd man out today after reading comments because although the dress is flattering on you it’s not my favorite. Not sure if it’s the stripes or the layers. I think you made right decision. Love your shoes though.

  5. I’m sitting here thinking, wow, I love this dress . I adore stripes, and usually avoid wider stripes, but after seeing this dress I’m with the other gals, you should of kept it…lol That dress would of been awesome for Cancun, hurry, go out and find another one! ?

    1. Kathy, I think that everything that I have laid out to take to Cancun is a dress. They are so easy, just slip on and go. I have a cocktail, maxi’s, sundresses, and everything in between. Lol!

  6. Love the dress on you! Very sliming and great for summer! I would keep it!

  7. The dress is cute but I know what you mean about hearing comments! We have a flowering crabapple tree in our front yard that we always take outdoor pictures in front of. Our daughters call it the prom tree as it often flowers right before prom, definitely a great memory!

  8. I love this dress and it looks great on you. I’m a dressmaker and the first thing I noticed was the quality of workmanship. The strips all line up! You should have kept the dress.

    1. I did notice that too, Beverly. That is one of my pet-peeves when I buy clothing, furniture, etc.

  9. I agree with the rest; it is amazing on you!

The dress looks beautiful on you. You wear your clothes just right. I’m 52 years old and would love to look like you do in cloths. Thanks for all your words of wisdom. I look forward to your post each morning with my cup of joe.
