I Am Yours, and I Believe: Fighting Lies with God’s Truth
Do You Only See Flaws in the Mirror?
When you look at a photograph of yourself, where do your eyes go first? I know mine dart straight to my chin(s), waistline, upper arms, or thighs. You know, the usual suspects that many of us women seem to battle with. And when I glance in the mirror, it’s all too easy to focus on the lines, the sunspots, or the areas that aren’t as firm as they once were.
But let me ask you this…
What Do You See in Your Best Friend?
Think about someone you love dearly, your best friend, your sister, your daughter, your mom. When you look at her, are you counting her wrinkles or pointing out her flaws? Of course not! You see the light in her eyes, the warmth of her smile, and the kindness in her heart.
So why do we struggle to offer ourselves that same grace?
If she sees your beautiful heart, why is it so hard to believe that God sees us that way too?
The Confidence Gap
My daughter sent me a funny sticker the other day that read, “I wish I had the confidence of a mediocre white man.” I laughed, but I also winced, because there’s a grain of truth there. So many men seem to walk through life with an ease we envy. They might notice their beer belly or their wrinkles, but they don’t seem to let it rattle them the way we often do.
We, on the other hand, can spiral from one thought to another, Am I enough? Do I belong?
The truth is, we don’t just see our own flaws. We feel them.
A Song That Speaks to the Soul
The last time I drove to Atlanta to visit my sister, I queued up some Lauren Daigle songs. She’s my favorite Christian artist, and her music always seems to speak right to the tender parts of my heart. When You Say came on, I didn’t even make it through the first verse without tears filling my eyes.
“You say I am loved, when I can’t feel a thing…”
Those words hit deep.
How many of us have fought those inner voices that whisper lies?
The Lies We Start to Believe
As a mom, I’ve questioned myself a thousand times, Did I do enough? Was I present enough?
I’ve doubted myself as a wife, a daughter, a friend, and even a business owner. That voice in my head says, You’re not doing enough. You’re not good enough.
And sometimes? I believe it.
But that’s not God’s voice. That’s the enemy’s.
1 Peter 5:8 (NIV)
8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy, the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
The devil is sneaky. He waits for the moments when we’re tired, insecure, or vulnerable. Then he whispers those lies, and if we’re not on guard, they take root.
The Truth That Sets Us Free
That’s why You Say is such a powerful reminder.
You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
And you say I am held when I am falling short
And when I don’t belong, oh You say I am Yours
And then this part always gets me:
And I believe
Oh, I believe
What You say of me
I believe
That’s the key, believing what HE says of us.
Ephesians 6:11 (NIV)
11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
God knew we’d be under attack, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. That’s why He gave us armor. When we put on His truth, His righteousness, and His peace, we can stand firm. We can see the devil’s tactics for what they are, and we can fight back with faith.
God Sees You, and He Calls You His
He doesn’t see your wrinkles or your insecurities. He sees your heart. He sees His beloved daughter.
So when you whisper the words, “I am Yours,” you are claiming your identity, not in the lies, but in the truth.
Not in the mirror’s reflection, but in God’s.
To GOD Goes The Glory!
Have A Blessed Day!
Let’s End with a Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Help us silence the voices that tell us we are not enough. Remind us that we are fully known and fully loved by You. Give us eyes to see ourselves the way You see us, cherished, chosen, and held. When the lies get loud, help us turn to Your truth.
Clothe us in Your armor, Lord, and give us the confidence not just to believe in You, but to believe what You say about us.
Today, we declare: I am Yours, and I believe.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
I love Lauren Daingle and that song is one of my favorites. It is comforting to know that I am not alone in looking at myself as not being worthy,I let the devil set into my thoughts when I should be praying. Thank you for this post.
Thank you, I needed this reminder today.
Thank you for this post. It was exactly what I needed to hear from the Lord today. I am His and that is an incredible gift!
I truly enjoy reading your posts, especially on Sundays. As a child of God’s who grew up in the church, taught Sunday school myself for years and studied the word, sometimes your perspective really makes you stop and think about things. I enjoy listening to Lauren Daigle and her music as well.
Wow, what a great message, Tania. I love reading your posts but this is the first time I’ve commented. I can’t tell you how much this hits home for me. Lauren Daigle is also a favorite of mine. Seeing those lyrics reminds me that God’s the ultimate authority. If He says I’m enough, then obsessing over my muffin top and too thick arms clearly isn’t part of His agenda, and shouldn’t be of mine either. Thank you for doing what you do, Tania!
I’m so happy this post was meant for you. The things we consider important, means nothing when it comes to the Lord. And, after all, who are we trying to please?
What a post! Sundays are very hard since I’m not loving my work life as much as I would like to. But this post gives me strength. As I mentally prepare for each meeting and each day, I will remember, “… Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes…” Thank you.
Kesh, you might be placed at the workplace by God. He might be using you to encourage someone else. Sometimes the hardest times we go through is because the Lord is using us for something.
Tania, Thanks for sharing this wonderful post. I to feel bad sometimes thinking I’m not beautiful or not good Mother or Grandmother or wife but I know I have a Heavenly Father who loves me for who I am. I Thank him for that every day. Have a blessed week ahead.
Such a great truth. I often struggle with this as well and needed to be reminded!
Oh, how we all need to hear and believe these words! I always try to remember the verse “greater is HE that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
Thanks so much for the encouragement and the really enjoy your blog!
That is a great verse to remember.
Amen! Thank you, Tanya!
Beautiful message today. God Bless!
We all as women need to be reminded we
are loved the the Greatest Lover of all times!
Thank you Jesus for loving us as we are!
Love, love, love this! Thanks, Tania, for the reminder that we are enough!
🥹 that was beautifully written! No AI can replace you! I love to come back & reread your Sunday prayers during the week, thank you! 🛐
Thank you for this reminder, Tania. I enjoy her songs too! God is good – able to be our shield when the enemy whispers. Blessings to you!
WOW
What a great reminder
Thank you
One of my favorite Bible verses is Ephesians 2:10. We are God’s masterpiece. I have repeated this to them, and highlighted this verse in all my granddaughter’s Bibles.
That is a wonderful tool for them!
This is such an uplifting message. I really needed to read these words. It made me feel so much better about myself and the challenges I’m facing within my family.
I’m sorry you are facing issues with your family. I know most of us can relate to that at one time or the other.
Amen! The song always brings me to tears especially standing in church surrounded by all the voices singing. If only I would hang on to them when “the voices” try to say differently but I know whose I and ….. “I believe”!
Beautiful words to hear and believe. I am His and He loves me!
Such a powerful message to hold onto.
Thank you!
This is so true and so important for us to realize!
Thank you! Very well-written and wonderful reminder!
Wow! You are really speaking to my heart and struggles today. Spoke to my christian counselor just yesterday about this. I know God’s truth in my mind but don’t always feel it in my heart like I should. The enemy is good at firing those firey darts! I also love Lauren Daigle and You Say is also my favorite 😍 Have a blessed day!
Leslie, isn’t it just like God to give you this post when He knows you are struggling!?!
Amen!
We were created and designed by the master and girls,He don’t make junk!!!!
My mom died at age 42,before she had to deal with grey hair, wrinkles etc. etc. God has seen fit to allow me 67 years so I embrace my grey hair, wrinkles,& spider veins. I AM ENOUGH!!!!
Thank you for taking the time to write this and share your heart.
Tania, Thank you so much for this message! This is a real struggle for me, and something that I work on daily. Satan really makes me mad with how often he tries to take control of my thoughts. Of course, his antics just make me cry out to God even more. I irritate myself with how judgmental and critical I am of myself.
The devil is sooo crafty, and he knows how to irritate us the most.
I read your posts daily and don’t comment too often. This one hit home! Thank you for sharing.
Trish, I glad you took the time to comment today.
Love your devotions and written prayers.
Tania thank you so much. As I sit here in hospital I knew to come to your page for your Sunday words. Thank you for bringing me peace.
Tamara, I hope everything is ok.
I want to thank you for your message. It really hits home and blessed my heart.
You are so truthful and sincere in your writing that I say only the lord writes with you.
May your day be blessed and full. Thank you .
Thank you so much for this article and prayer today! We all need to remember that God made us and loves each one of us!
Thank you so very much for this reminder! ❤️
thank you
Thank you. I have been struggling because a person who says she is my friend makes fun of my anxiety issues and tells others. This helped me realize he sees me as I am and loves me.
I needed this today.
Kelly, this makes me wonder if your friend realizes how her actions bother you. You need to bring it to her attention, and ask her to stop.
I absolutely love that song. Wonderful post today!
I needed this today. Thank you!
Tania,
God sure used you in this post to validate what He says about us. Thank you for following His leading.
Blessings!
Lisa
Loved your post today. What a great reminder!
This was great to read this morning; a gentle reminder that I am enough and I am worthy.
Truer words have never been spoken! Thanks for the reminder to remain true who God made you to be.
Wow, thank you for this timely message. Actually I’ve needed this for 67 years 😟 just returned from. Road trip vacation and every photo I was in, I wanted to delete for one reason or another. My arms, my tummy, my legs, my face or hair. Most of the time it was all of those factors. When we were traveling I tried to think, “I am a child, of my parents, I am healthy and so blessed!” But still have this thoughts. I am printing this and the prayer. maybe if I read it over and over it will “stick”. Thank you and God Bless!
Ps I wish I could find one of those stickers. 🙂
Debbie, I’m so glad this post was meant for you. Those photos are priceless, so please don’t fret about any flaws that you see. The Lord doesn’t notice those, and I’m sure your friends and family don’t either.
❤️
Thank you
Tania,
Beautiful! We are enough! Thank you for this reminder.
Have a blessed Sunday!
Thank you so much, dear Karen! I so needed to read and feel these words. I thank God for putting you in my path! Have a blessed day ❤️
So true and well written!👏🏻
I LOVE the daily readings! ….first thing I read in your blog….Roseanne Myers
🥰
This spoke to my in so many ways. Thank you Tania. Have a beautiful day!
Thank you, Tania. To me, this was the most important and impactful post you’ve made. At 65, I’m overly critical of my appearance, even while I’ve lost a significant amount of weight in the past few years and immensely improved my health. I obsess about what to wear, I obsess about my thinning hair, I obsess about my wrinkles, I obsess about what others think of my appearance and outfit. Today’s post made me look at something much more important than how I look and how my self depreciation hurts the Lord since he made me this way. To Him, I’m beautiful.
Carolyn, I’m sure the Lord knew you needed to read today’s post.
Words to live by.
Thanks
What a blessing this was for me. Thank you!
Tania, that was very powerful!!! Happy Sunday🙏❤🙏
This post is a Gift from God. Just when I needed some kind of sign that just maybe I’m not totally worthless….Thank you

So true, thank you for sharing, I love reading your column and I enjoy all your clothing tips. I’m now over 70 but I don’t feel my age and certainly don’t look it either. I take care of myself. 🤗

Thank you!
Thank you so much for this! I doubt myself all the time and worry I’m not enough. I also see my cellulite in my legs and my hips and belly have gotten larger. I appreciate this reminder that God sees our heart.
I think we all are guilty of this.
Thank you for soothing my soul today. Sharing with my daughters also!
I hope your daughter like the post.
Hits me deeply this morning.

Thank you Tania! I needed to hear these words today.
Thank you for reminding me that I am who God Says I Am. Loved, Beautiful, Daughter of the King.
I love this. 🥰
Thank you for your words of “belief in yourself “. So many times we are caught in this quagmire and it is so tough to get out of it. But trust in the Lord and faith in what He gives us is the secret to believing in yourself.
The Lord made us, so we are what He says, not what satan would have us believe.
A beautiful reminder of God’s grace and his love for us!
Thanks Tania and have a blessed week!
Love this! What a great read! Yes To GOD Goes The Glory!!!!
Thank you for reminding me of what is most important. Have a blessed day!
Amen
What a way to begin the Lord’s Day! Encouragement directly from God’s Word.
