Is It True Life Begins At Fifty
Does life really begin at fifty?
Are you aware that life begins at fifty? Most of us are settled down, our children are raised (hopefully), and our careers are already on track. I know the age that is considered old keeps moving forward. I think that the age to be considered elderly is now 70 and above. However, depending on who you ask, that age varies. Have you ever noticed the words used to describe women after the age of 40?
My husband is all the time giving me compliments that go something like this: ” You look great – for someone your age”. My response is always the same, “Really, couldn’t you have just left off the your age part”? but what I really, and I mean REALLY hate is when I hear a man call his wife, my old lady. I could, and have, jumped all over them for that statement. I have even heard younger men, like in their 30’s, use that term. What??? 
If life begins at fifty, then why do people use these type terms to describe fifty and over women? Frumpy, old woman, old-fashioned, doddering, vintage, old goat, matronly, hag, old maid or old dame, and bitch. These are a few words that are used to describe older women. These infuriate me, I think we should strive hard to change the way everyone, not only men, look at aging women. Vibrant, vivacious, fashionable, sexy, active, and stylish are a few words I want to hear more.
Speaking of stylish, how do you like these boots? Haha I think in TV land, they call that a segue. Anyway, I bought these last year at a little boutique in Acworth, GA called Glitzy Chicks. I have on another one of the plaid shirts that my daughter left for me. It is by a brand called Passport. Here is a different one, but I think she left me this one too. It is unusual for her to leave me clothing, usually it is my clothing that leaves with her. Lol! The navy top was a thrift store find that I bought for 2.00. It is a Koret brand and the tags were still attached. I knew it would be a great staple piece. Here is a similar sweater.
The purse is a Stella & Dot bag that I got last year from hosting a show. I love Stella & Dot, but some of their items are a little pricey. Hosting a show is a great way to get a few items, either free, or half priced.
The necklaces are both from Stella & Dot, and I got them this year from hosting a show. The shorter gray quartz necklace, is called Legend. The three strand longer necklace is called Zuni layering necklace. I like the fact that you can undo each of the strands, making it more versatile. 
It is just another snowy, cold day here in Virginia. I am surprised you can’t see my breath in the photos. I sure don’t linger when I am taking the pictures. Haha
So what are some of the not so flattery terms you have heard someone use to describe women?
Tania, I just love those boots! I’d love to have a pair of “non-expensive” low-heeled boots to just knock around in! Yours look great! ( putting this on my need to have list). Got a thing for your necklaces too! Ha! – Derogatory name-calling for lovely ladies? How about “grannie” by some young whipper snapper not remotely related by blood (or marriage?!). Never happened to me to my face, but should it – well, that’d be fightin’ words! lol
When I hear grannie, I think of the Beverly Hillbillies, not ME!
I am so glad I found you. I am 57 with a 15 year old daughter. Most of the kids in her class have grandmothers my age. I try not to dress like the grandmothers, however I font want to dress like I’m 18 either. Your style is just what I’ve been looking for. Over the weekend I went back to all of your older posts and I love all of your clothes. Have enjoyed all of your posts and your sense of humor is refreshing. Keep up the good work.????
Thanks Tammy! That is exactly how I feel. I want to look nice, updated, and not frumpy or old. I can’t do much with the face, but I can dress the body in any style I choose.

I agree with Sharon! I have never heard a gentleman speak that way about his wife. Yikes! If my husband called me any of those names, I’d sock him in the nose which wouldn’t be very ladylike. 🙂
And by the way, my children are not all grown yet. My youngest is 12 and I am over 50. Just call me a late bloomer. She is a joy although I am looking forward to the teen years with trepidation. 🙂
A lot of women are choosing to have their children at later ages. Sometimes, it is not a chose, it just happens. Haha I told my husband when I hit 30, that was all she wrote. I had my last child when I was 29. My daughter is 28 and has not even begun to think about marriage or children.
Cute outfit! Nice of your daughter to leave the shirt… Yeah, the closer I get to 70 (another year) the less I like the term “elderly”. The appellation I dislike is “the” wife…”The wife will be home”, “I have to ask the wife”, “The wife will call you about that”. I don’t call him “the husband”. He does call me the “old woman” but he was raised by wolves.

Love the colors you are wearing today because navy and red are some of my favorites. Watch that 70 is “elderly” stuff. As I approach that, I am not going to dress, act or think “elderly.” Psalm 92 says that the “righteous will flourish in the courts of our God, they will bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green!” That doesn’t sound elderly to me. My husband is very complimentary and I really don’t hear men here using demeaning terms for their wives. We Northerners are tough so maybe the guys don’t mess with us. 🙂 Anyway, love the necklaces. Do you have any snow yet? My sister in Roanoke says she is expecting 3 feet of snow! It will be warmer and dry as a bone here. Hope you like sledding or skating. 🙂
Wow! 3 feet of snow!!! I think they have lowered our totals to maybe 4-8 inches. I like snow, so I wouldn’t mind getting that amount. 3 feet might be a different story.❄️⛄️❄️
Since I just got married a few months ago, the only thing I hear from my husband is “wife” now. lol. I sorta like it. But I have to admit….when he starts complaining of this pain or that pain I call him “Grandpa”…but he is quite a bit older than me lol. Maybe I should stop doing that!!!

Love your outfit – the color really flatters you. Also, I love your hairstyle. I have heard men refer to their wives as the “old woman”, or the “old ball and chain”, and I don’t like it either. I have told numerous ladies about your blog. Love it! Stay warm!
