MAKING FLANNEL FEMININE
How are the New Year’s Resolutions going for everyone? Do we even want to talk about it? Lol! I am betting that over half of you have already forgotten what your resolutions even where. I can’t really remember what mine were except for one or two and I can tell you that anything that had to do with dieting has already been blown. Joe has been on a “cake” diet lately and because I am such a sweet wife I couldn’t let him go on this diet by himself.
A friend of ours baked him a pound cake. He LOVES pound cake so it was really sweet of her to bake it for him. I am sure the fact that he sent her the recipe had nothing to do with it. Haha! After that cake was devoured we had to bake her a cake in return. So I baked her a lemon pound cake that is his favorite. A neighbor gave me this recipe over 20+ years ago. When he smelled the cake and then had to have one of his very own. THEN, I mentioned to him that my friend Sandy had baked a red velvet cake (she is well known for her red velvet cake) and he wanted a piece of that also. Sandy brought a huge piece to me to give him. I don’t think either one of us can button our pants today. I feel like Jabba the Hutt. Lol!
This morning I went to the closet and pulled out this red and gray flannel shirt. I looked at it for a minute and almost put it back in the closet because I thought it looked very manly. I was thinking about how it needed to look a little more feminine so I kept looking. I didn’t like a cardigan or a blazer with it and was just about to give up when I spotted my red boiled wool vest. I loved the look of the two items together. I no longer look like the man on the Brawny commercial.
This red boiled vest has to be 10 – 15 years old. I have had this forever it seems and I can’t remember where I bought it. The brand is Lands’ End so now you know why I have been able to keep it for so long and it still look so good.
God Is Within Her She Will Not Fail is the message on the Shelena necklace from Plunder. The heart dangle is perfect for Valentine’s Day but I am not a huge “heart” fan when it comes to jewelry. I have not idea why, I like hearts, I like jewelry, I just don’t like heart jewelry. Hahaha! The long necklace is the Tabitha. I like that this necklace can be worn long and short. It also comes with an additional lobster claw so you can add a charm like I did. The white cross is the LuLu and this is not little charm. It measures 4 inches long and is very ornate.
I wanted to show you a closeup shot of this Wanda bracelet. It is hard to describe this bracelet so they say a picture is worth a thousand words. This is a stretch bracelet and all the little balls are dangles.
The flannel shirt is between a blue and a gray. When you hold it next to something gray it looks blue and when it is next to blue it looks gray. Lol! I finally decided to wear the navy pants with the look. I figure navy goes with almost anything.
The black leather GILI purse is one I have been carrying for a while now so I am not going to link to it. That is the same with my bling bracelets from Plunder. I have worn them over and over in the past month or so. Just because you have a manly looking clothing item doesn’t mean that you can’t bring it over to the girly side. Are you up to the challenge?
Have any of you ever heard of ZOOM? It is a free app that you can download on your computer, iPad, or cellphone, and it allows you to talk and video chat with people. The way it works is you are invited to join a call and the host gives you a number to type in once you open the app. You will be taken to the meeting and you can wait around if the host isn’t there yet. You can put your speaker on mute so no one can hear you and you can do the same thing with the video. If you are in your bathrobe, just turn the video off. Haha!!! All this to tell you that I was thinking about hosting a call for Plunder and one for Rodan and Fields this weekend. Up to 50 people can join in on a call so there is no need to feel pressured to say anything if you don’t want. I just thought if you were wanting to ask questions if is MUCH easier this way than to type and type and type. I would hate to host a call and no one show up, that would be bad, so email me if this sounds like something you might want to participate in at fiftyisnotold@gmail.com This call can include anyone in the US, Canada, and Australia. If you are anywhere else and just want to join in to talk then feel free to call in also. If you are in the Tampa Florida area and would like to hear about Rodan and Fields there will be a BIG corporate business opportunity event there January 26th at 7:00 p.m. This is FREE to anyone of you who might like to attend as my guest. Just for attending you will be presented a gift from R & F. Click here to register and be sure to take a friend. No one wants to go to these things alone 🙁

Would love to try the eye cream! Thanks
Love this outfit. Flannel can be so warm and fun, but sometimes it can be very masculine. I love how you added the vest and all the bling. It really makes the outfit wonderfully feminine. You look fabulous! – Amy

I’m wearing a flannel shirt tomorrow!! Bought it at Target.
I love the red vest. Red is my favorite color.
Beautiful and vibrant. I love flannel, but I always think it needs a little ‘tweaking’. You’ve hit upon it perfectly. Now to find the right vest!
Very sweet look Tania – nothing better than a cake diet if you ask me – hehe!
I just posted about my Mum as she just turned 80 this month – I am so proud of her and her own little fashionista mantras – you might like to check this out 😉 http://funkyforty.com/style-age-especially-80/

Tania, I truly love how you have taken a humble flannel shirt and elevated it to such style! Love, love, love what the jewelry does for this ensemble!
This outfit is amazing. I think it might be one of my faves that you’ve posted. I love that you can carry off larger jewelry and you’re brave enough to try it. I am not real brave with the larger jewelry (yet :-). From the picture, your pants almost look like a brushed corduroy pants. (On a side note, I had to finally google how to spell COR-DU-ROY because I kept getting that squiggly red line that told me I had spelled it wrong 3 times!, tee hee).
Speaking of heart jewelry, I never was a fan and have become one. I have this beautiful black heart on a velvet rope from Brighton that I wear ALL the time. http://www.brighton.com/product/necklaces/36956-110450/la-bella-noche-necklace.html
We live on the east coast and go to the west for vacations, many times going through Las Vegas airport and my favorite thing to do in that airport is shop at the Brighton shop 🙂 I have many momentos from trips from that store :-)))
I’ve since purchased these heart earrings also…

And now I’ve just gone on long enough.
Happy Thursday!
Well, you hit it out of the ballpark again…LOVE the red! I’m not a big Heart fan either, but your jewelry is cute as ever. Have a wonderful day or evening by the time you read this 🙂
Ok, girl, what is boiled wool? I have never heard of that. But then, I’m allergic to wool! Ha! I love flannel shirts & you’ve really dressed it up! Love the Plunder!
Tania
You make me smile every morning when I read your post!! Keep up the great work.
Tania you make me smile every morning when I open your posts. Keep up the good work!!!
Love this look. I especially like the Wanda bracelet – is it a noisy or quiet bracelet with all those little balls?
Good question. It is not noisy. It might make some noise but nothing that is really noticeable or distracting.
I love the flannel shirts they are showing now. I have bought a couple of men’s shirts at Walmart and I am going to sew vintage lace at the bottom to gurl it up. If you get a chance you need to check out the Katie Grace Boutique page on Facebook, they also have a website. They have some of the cutest clothes, lots of Bohemian looking tops and dresses and great prices. Have a great day.
Interested in joining you with Plunder…how do I do that?
I love a boiled wool sweater—they are so warm!! In fact, I’ve accidentally made my own a time or two…LOL!!
I don’t have a flannel shirt like this, but I bet I could snag one from my husband—it’d be more like a tunic (we did that once on the blog and called it borrow from the boys!! ha ha)

I’ve had my eye on a few flannel shirts but, in the end, they are just not me. I’m really into layering in my old age and I love this look. Dressy yet comfy and classy. Never thought of layering a flannel with a vest. Thanks for opening my eyes!
Absolutely love the outfit. This is definitely a flannel time of year here so your styling tip is perfect.. the long cross necklace pulls it all together for me.
Cake diet? Sounds wonderful.
Audrey, everyone needs to go on a cake diet. Hahaha!
I think your plaid shirt looks great with the vest and the navy pants, Tania!!!! The silver necklaces against the deep red are really beautiful!!!!! I love this look – very much how I like to dress in winter!!!!
I’ve got a VERY YUMMY red velvet cake recipe (Paula Deen’s, you can find the recipe online) and I was thinking yesterday that I should bake one again – I think you have now convinced me that I definitely need to be making one this afternoon!!!!! LOL!!!!!
Have a great day!!!
Hugz
Petra, I have seen the Paula Deen recipe and it looks good. I just can’t resist a good Red Velvet cake. Lol!
I love the red and grey together and who can resist homemade cake???
Exactly, Caroline!!! I can’t resist homemade cake……
I don t do resolutions!?? Well, perhaps one, to go out of the house more. I stay, particular in winter, in my home to much. It s nog good, it s difficult to go out when you stayed in a long time.you look lovely!
Tania, I think that you did a marvelous job of blending the manly with feminine details. Your color combo is a classic and the necklaces over the plaid looks fabulous. Those cakes sound yummy. Instead of resolutions for me, I’m trying a series of challenges (17 in ’17) to help me break some bad habits and start better ones.

Challenges are waaaay better, Rena. I like that outlook.
