If you’ve ever found yourself scrolling through sale items wondering, “But how would that actually look on me?”, this post is for you. Today, I’m sharing real outfit ideas from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2025 featuring both myself and my daughter-in-law Stephanie. We’re different heights, sizes, and ages, which makes this a great way to see how these pieces work for real women.

Stephanie is 5’3″ and typically wears a size small or 26/27 in jeans. I’m 5’6″, in between a medium and a large, and wear a size 8 or 29 in pants. Whether you’re petite, over 50, or just looking for clothes that flatter and feel good, there’s something here for you.

If you’re new to shopping this sale or just want a refresher on how to get the most out of it, be sure to check out this post where I shared all my best tips for navigating the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, how it works, what to focus on, and how to make the most of your budget.

Asymmetric Belted Midi Shirtdress Styled Two Ways

Asymmetric Belted Midi Shirtdress (Large) | Dolce Vita Kenzen Western Harness Boot (TTS) | Rebecca Minkoff Suede Hobo Bag

This Asymmetric Belted Midi Shirtdress caught both of our eyes immediately. It has a soft drape and flattering asymmetrical hem that makes it feel elevated and fresh. The belt is adjustable and defines the waist beautifully, which is always a plus when you want a little shape without anything clinging too tightly. I loved how it worked with my figure, and Stephanie looked absolutely gorgeous in it, proving this is a dress that works across generations.

Asymmetric Belted Midi Shirtdress (Small) | Rebecca Minkoff Mae Leather Hobo Bag | Birkenstock Arizona Big Buckle Slide Sandal (6-6.5 37EU)

Stephanie’s Accessories:

Why It Works:

  • Belted shape flatters the waist without being clingy
  • Asymmetrical hem adds movement and style
  • Soft, wearable fabric that drapes beautifully
  • Great for brunch, church, or a daytime fall wedding

Julia Jordan Stretch Satin Midi Dress

Julia Jordan Long Sleeve Stretch Satin Midi Dress (Size 10) | Sam Edelam Woods Knee High Boot (TTS) | Dolce Vita Suede Hobo Bag

We both tried on this Long Sleeve Stretch Satin Midi Dress, and I was surprised by how comfortable it felt even with the sleeker fabric. It has just the right amount of stretch and structure, which is a blessing if you’re looking for a dressy option that doesn’t pinch or pull. The V-neckline and gathered waist make it a wonderful option for fall events and holiday gatherings.

Julia Jordan Long Sleeve Stretch Satin Midi Dress (Size 2) | Vionic Samara Block Heel Sandal (Size 7)

Stephanie’s Accessories:

Why It Works:

  • Stretch satin moves with your body, not against it
  • V-neckline is flattering and modest
  • Long sleeves offer arm coverage for cooler weather
  • Perfect for weddings, dinners, or special occasions

Casual Chic in Jeans and Sweaters

Tania wearing Frame wide-leg jeans and a cashmere cardigan with Steve Madden mules and a brown tote bag, styled for fall.
Cashmere V-Neck Cardigan (Large – Needed a Medium) | Frame Seamed High Waist Wide Leg Trouser Jeans (Size 29) | Steve Madden Dessa Mule (TTS) | Medium Hana Faux Leather Tote

This outfit is such a great everyday look. The Wide Leg Trouser Jeans are structured but comfortable, and I always appreciate when a pair doesn’t stretch out after a few hours. The Cashmere V-Neck Cardigan is soft and timeless, and I plan to wear it layered over camis and tees well into the fall. I recommend sizing down if you’re between sizes.

Accessories:
The Steve Madden Dessa Mule has a sleek profile and a low heel that makes it easy to wear all day, whether you’re running errands or heading to lunch with friends. The Medium Hana Faux Leather Tote pulls the whole look together; it’s roomy, structured, and polished enough to elevate a casual outfit without feeling too dressy.

Why It Works:

  • High waist jeans offer tummy support and a clean silhouette
  • Lightweight cashmere feels luxurious without being too warm
  • Mule shoes are a stylish and comfy alternative to boots
Stephanie wearing a gray sweater and light wash jeans
Madewell Puff-Sleeve Textured Sweater (Small) | Good American Petite Palazzo Jeans (8P) | Dolce Vita Slim Pointed Toe Bootie (TTS) | Rebecca Minkoff Suede Hobo Bag

Stephanie loved how these Good American Petite Palazzo Jeans fit her without any need for hemming. Adding the Pointed Toe Bootie helps to elongate her leg, and this is a great example of how a petite woman can wear wide-leg jeans. The Puff-Sleeve Textured Sweater is playful yet sophisticated, and I can see her wearing it all season long with everything from jeans to skirts.

Accessories:
Stephanie added the Dolce Vita Slim Pointed Toe Bootie for a little edge and height, and the neutral shade works with just about any outfit. The Rebecca Minkoff Suede Hobo Bag has that perfect slouchy-meets-polished look, softening the structure of the jeans while staying practical.

Why It Works:

  • Petite-friendly jeans with flattering wide leg
  • Puff sleeves add just a touch of trend
  • Soft knit fabric makes it easy to wear all day

Layered Neutrals for Fall

Tania wearing a trench coat with a black cashmere shell and olive pants
Oversize Lightweight Trench Coat (Medium) | Cashmere V-Neck Sweater Vest (Medium) | Frame Palazzo Patch Pocket High Waist Wide Leg Jeans (Size 30) | Dolce Vita Slim Pointed Toe Bootie (TTS) | Medium Hana Faux Leather Tote

This look feels modern but still wearable, with layered neutral tones that feel very high-end. The classic Trench Coat is surprisingly lightweight and easy to move in, making it great for transitional weather. The Cashmere V-Neck Sweater Vest is sleeveless, so it layers without adding bulk, and these olive colored wide-leg jeans are so forgiving. I think these run slightly small, so I sized up to a 30 for a better fit.

Accessories:
The Pointed Toe Bootie give this look a refined touch and keep it from feeling too bulky, while the Hana Faux Leather Tote adds a warm, earthy tone. I love the neutral layers of beige, taupe, and camel in the outfit, while the black adds a bit of drama.

Why It Works:

  • Layered textures add interest without overwhelming
  • Neutral tones feel chic and pulled together
  • Great for coffee dates, church, or casual Fridays

Rails Outfit on Stephanie

Rails Linen Blend Button-Up Shirt (X-Small) | Rails High Waist Crop Wide Leg Jeans (Size 26) | Veronica Beard Paige Slide Sandal (TTS) | Rebecca Minkoff Suede Hobo Bag

Rails makes some beautiful pieces that feel effortless and elevated. This outfit is breezy and flattering without being too loose or oversized. I absolutely LOVE the Linen Blend Button-Up Shirt with the playful animal print! The Cropped Wide Leg Jeans have the cutest stitched visual detail on the pockets and hem.

Accessories:
The Veronica Beard Paige Slides add a bit of polish with their clean lines and slightly dressy finish. Stephanie’s Rebecca Minkoff Suede Hobo Bag in suede ties in with the neutral tones of the outfit and adds a soft contrast to the crisp linen shirt.

Why It Works:

  • Light layers work well for warm fall days
  • Great neutral staples that mix and match easily
  • Polished enough for work, soft enough for weekends

Madewell Striped Polo Sweaters

Tania wearing a navy & white striped sweater with dark wash wide leg jeans
Madewell Stripe Polo Sweater (Large) | Frame Seamed High Waist Wide Leg Trouser Jeans (Size 29) Dolce Vita Slim Pointed Toe Bootie (TTS) | Rebecca Minkoff Suede Hobo Bag

We both tried on the same sweater in different sizes and paired it with different jeans.

This Striped Polo Sweater was a surprise favorite. It’s soft, slightly oversized, and the collar gives it a sporty, updated feel. Stephanie’s Cropped Flare Wide Leg Jeans fit her like a glove, and I loved the structure of my Frame pair.

Accessories:
I reached again for the Rebecca Minkoff Suede Hobo Bag and Pointed Toe Bootie. The suede texture complements the cozy knit of the sweater, and these are items you’ll wear all fall and winter.

Madewell Stripe Polo Sweater (Small) | Madewell Raw Hem High Waist Crop Flare Wide Leg Jeans (Size 25) | Veronica Beard Paige Slide Sandal (TTS) | Dolce Vita Suede Hobo Bag

Why It Works:

  • Easy layering piece that’s not too bulky
  • Flattering on multiple body types
  • Adds a subtle pop of pattern to neutral bottoms

Accessories:
Stephanie wore the Veronica Beard Paige Slide Sandals, which are chic but comfortable enough for walking around. Her Dolce Vita Suede Hobo Bag added a bit of texture and kept the color palette cohesive from head to toe.
