IT’S WHO YOU KNOW THAT MATTERS
How many times have you heard the saying, “it’s not what you know; it’s who you know?” I recently read this in a book, and it made me wonder if it was true. The author was talking about how to get ahead in business and was discussing his contact list. He reasoned that the more people you know, the more successful you can become. He then went on to do a little “name-dropping.”
People who “name-drop” are usually trying to impress you. I know such and such, and your reaction is supposed to be, WOW! Most of the time these people do not really know the person they are talking about. And, better yet, the other person does not know them. I once met Mohammed Ali, I had my photograph taken with Al Gore, and I rode in an elevator with Bob Hope. Are you impressed? Do you think any of those people know me? Did they tell anyone that they met ME? Of course not! It was cool to have met these people, but it didn’t make a difference in my life one way or the other.
The one we need to know already knows us. He knows all about us, the very thoughts we think, the things we have done, even the number of hairs on our heads. He made us. He loves us. Do you know HIM?
Jeremiah 1:5
5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
Psalm 139:13
13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Psalm 139:1
1 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.
You have the book He wrote but have you read it? You have His personal cell phone number (prayer) but do you use it? Is His name the name we “drop” when we are trying to impress someone? How well do we really know the Lord?
Sure, we talk about “knowing the Lord,” which generally refers to having a personal relationship with God. For some, knowing the Lord means making a conscious effort to live in accordance with His teachings and principles. That can look like taking the time to study and reflect on scripture, attend church, and trying to live a good life.
In the end, it REALLY is who you know that counts. And, more importantly, it is who knows you.
To God Goes The Glory!
Have a blessed Sunday!
Great message. Talked to an elderly acquaintance this week. His wife had died a year or so ago. He remarked they had been married over 70 years when she died and that she ran off with another man. He sort of chuckled and said she ran off with Jesus! He was 97 and still going strong. So, it is who you know from beginning to end.
Thank you for the reminder to put in the extra work, and time, to get to know him.
So true! Thank you for sharing this wisdom.
absolutely moved by your post! I feel the same way you do, because like you I have met a few important people over the course of my life but, I am positive that didn’t remember me 2 minutes later but the scripture you used really is such a great reminder of who does know me, inside out and formed me! Great reminder to be the gospel in shoe leather who lives out the gospel and drops Jesus name. Thank you Tania!
So encouraging!
Always enjoy the Sunday posts. Great message today! God is using you to spread his word.
Beautiful Bible Verses. Thank you .
So true, God is good for us.
Amen!
Beautifully written Tania, thank you for consistently pointing to the only One true Savior, Jesus Christ, who yearns to claim to know us, if we will only accept His Saving Grace.
Thank you for sharing!
