HOW TO WEAR PLAID FOR THE HOLIDAYS AND LATER
I’m feeling much better today, and I appreciate all of you saying prayers for me. The What Would You Change post was a lot of fun, and I loved reading all of the comments. You gurls are so good at knowing your style, and it was great reading why you would or wouldn’t wear a particular item. Most of you commented that the plaid was a little much for you, so today I’m going to show you how “I” style plaid for the holidays.
Red for the holidays
Red is the color that I associate with Christmas and Valentine’s Day. I always feel like I need to wear a little bit of red during these holidays, even if it is just earrings, lipstick, a scarf, etc. So, while I LOVE plaid, I don’t want the Christmasy plaid that contains red and green. Instead, I want to style plaid for the holidays that can be worn at other times of the year, so I get more wear for my money.
When building an outfit, you always start with the bones and then add the fun stuff. The bones for today’s outfit are a v-neck cashmere sweater and a pair of pull-on jeans. I take advantage of sales and buy cashmere sweaters every year, and this sweater is one that I purchased last year. This year, the same sweater is on sale for $50 off, but this ivory/beige color is not available. However, there are a lot of other colors to choose from. I typically wear a medium in this lightweight sweater.
Plaid for the holidays
Did you notice the change in the vest? Yes, it is reversible, but more about that in the next paragraph. This paragraph is dedicated to the newest pull-on jeans in my closet. These dark wash flare jeans fit me fabulously, and they may be my new favorite pair. Lol! I only have to say one word, and you will understand why…SPANX!
We all know SPANX as the undergarment company, but they have expanded into the clothing arena, and I am so happy they did. I don’t like to be compressed, so their undergarments haven’t been a product that I used. However, I swear by their Bra-llelujah, and it is the only bra that I wear now. The faux-leather leggings were the first clothing item I tried, and I like them, but they also compress you. I’ve found that I need to size up in clothing from SPANX to keep from them being too tight, so I am wearing a large in these jeans, and they fit like a glove. These jeans look great, fit great, and have just the right amount of stretch to them.
SPANX products are of excellent quality, but they aren’t cheap. They fall under the category; you get what you pay for. I still like getting a good deal, so I make sure to check out the sales page too. Of course, sizes are limited, but you might be able to find something and save a lot of money.
Now, for the reversible vest I was talking about. This quilted vest is a great way to wear plaid for the holidays and later in the winter. The reversible option is ideal for extending the number of times you can wear the vest, making it versatile and affordable. I love both sides of the vest, and I can see myself wearing it a lot this winter. The plaid is not Christmasy, and you won’t feel weird wearing it later this winter.
I wore a light-colored sweater with the vest, but black looks fantastic with the vest and will probably be the color I wear with it most often. I am wearing a size 1, and the vest fits me great.
Here is a photo wearing the vest zipped, and I forgot to mention that there are pockets on both sides of the vest. The vest is lightweight, so if your winter weather is as cold as mine, you will need to add a coat when you leave the house. Since I went with an ivory sweater, I added a black double-breasted coat to my look.
A winter essential
This heavyweight double-breasted coat was in my closet but no longer online. I bought it in early fall, and this is the first time that I’ve worn it since the weather has been relatively warm. An excellent black coat is a great winter staple, and I just did a YouTube video about 5 winter essentials that you need to check out. Since this coat is no longer available, I’ll link to some similar ones that are.
I get asked a lot about the lipsticks I wear, but I usually forget which one I have on. Today, I got smart and took a photo to remember. Lol! I wear Chanel Ultra Wear Lip Colour probably 80-90 percent of the time, but the colors may vary. This color is Daring Red, and it is a beautiful red color. I only applied a thin coat since I wasn’t looking for the deep red color today, and then I applied the clear top coat on the other end of the tube.
I always try to wear a pointy toe shoe to elongate my legs, and today I have a pair of black cap toe ankle boots on that I bought during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. These are great, but they are very limited in size since they’ve been on the website for so long. I’ve found some similar ones in different heel heights that might work for you.
Did you see yesterday’s blog post that had a twist to it? I wasn’t feeling well yesterday, so I did a Plot Twist with my post. Someone mentioned that the What Would You Change post was fun and that I should do these more. So, let’s hear it; what do you think?

Thanks for this post on Spanx jeans. I wasn’t aware they had jeans! They look fantastic on you! I’m considering buying a pair in the future. I keep my jeans for a long time so they will be worth the investment. And, I want to thank you, Tania for all you do throughout the year for us “gurls”. Looking forward to what you have in store for us in 2022! Happy, safe holidays to you and your family!

I loved the plaid yesterday but realize it is Christmas looking. The reversible red vest is beautiful and much more practical. Thankful you are feeling better.
I like your outfit much better than what the model was wearing yesterday. Love the reversible vest and those jeans look amazing…leave it to Spanx!
Love the red vest outfit! I have worn out 2 red vest in about 25 years, as they are a great completer piece for an outfit. My 3rd red vest is being delivered today, but I may go ahead and order the Chico’s vest, love the option of plaid vs solid red. Have a great week!
I really enjoyed yesterday’s post and your critique. More would be fun. I like the vest. What is your opinion on plaid shirts? Talbot’s has some festive on ones this year.
