Sporting A Black Eye For Jesus
I recently made a trip back to my hometown to visit my family. This trip happens every 5 to 6 weeks since I also have my beautiful daughter-in-law cut and color my hair. I always look forward to these trips and spending time with my parents, children, grandchildren, siblings, and the rest of my extended family is fun.
My last trip was probably the most relaxed and laid-back trip I’ve had. This time, I didn’t have an agenda of people to visit or places to go. In fact, I don’t think I even put on makeup the entire time I was there. 😳
I was laughing and telling Joe about not wearing makeup the entire trip. The following day, I needed to take photos, etc., so I went to put on some makeup. That’s when I noticed my right eye looked dark in the corner. Since I hadn’t worn mascara in several days, I knew it wasn’t that, but I had no idea why it looked like that. I brushed it off, thinking that I must not have slept well while I was gone.
The next morning, there was no mistaking that I had a small black eye coming on. I showed my eye to Joe, and he asked me who I had gotten into a fight with. You talk about being confused; I racked my brain to think of something I might have done to get a black eye.
Then, it hit me! My cross hit me. I can’t remember exactly what I was doing, but I remember that my cross flipped up and hit me in the eye area. At the time, I remembered thinking, “whew, I’m glad that it didn’t hit me in the eye; that could have been dangerous.”
Once I figured out what happened, I laughed and said, NOT TODAY, SATAN!
I love wearing my crosses, and I have several that I wear all the time. Some are small, some are ornate, and some are large. The one I was wearing at the time was large and on a long chain, so that’s why it could flip up and hit me in the eye. But I’m not wearing the crosses as a fashion statement; I’m wearing them to show others that I love the Lord.
Matthew 22:37
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
My love of the Lord comes in many different forms, but wearing a cross is a way that I can show my love to others. The Lord loves us in many forms, also. He shows up grace, forgiveness, and mercy. But, His greatest display of love also involved a cross.
Romans 5:8
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
1 John 4:19
19 We love because he first loved us.
My black eye is a small price to pay for showing my love and pales in comparison to the price Jesus paid. But, each time I look at my necklace, I’ll be reminded that showing your love for the Lord can leave a mark, and it’s one I’m willing to have.
To God Goes The Glory!
Have A Blessed Day!
Amen and Amen !!
I love reading your posts on fashion and the like , but the BEST part is how you give GOD the Glory every single day.
You are an inspiration to me and and I’m sure you are to others , too.!
Have a Blessed day🙏🏻🙏🏻
I love your personal stories usually including Joe, and especially the ones that you tie on a message from God. I wear my Maltese cross everyday. It has very special earthly meaning, but the Heavenly meaning is what makes it a great statement.
I so enjoyed all your fashion posts this week – the white shirt one the most I think!
Be careful with those crosses : ) but amen.
Wow; glad you weren’t hurt worse.
Precious story Tania, thank you for sharing. It’s a good feeling to read and know there are individuals out there whom are not afraid to express their love of God!
I love this story. My prayer is we would all be willing to get a black eye for Jesus, whatever form it may take 💗
Tania-this is my favorite post yet. I look forward to your Sunday messages! A black eye is a small price and a great reminder…..that we are so blessed in this country. We can worship without fear and that is huge!! Have a great week🙏
I too wear a cross each and every day. It is the same one each day, small and simple and beloved. I have noticed your crosses; in fact, the cross you had on when your blog did the random “pop up thing” on my computer is why I looked and started following you. Thank you for being bold for our Lord! Keep it up. I enjoy your posts and all the great affordable choices! I actually am less skeptical now about ordering clothing on Amazon (my husband aka The Treasurer is not quite as happy as I am🤠)
I have gotten away from wearing my cross. I will put it on today. Thanks for the reminder. 🥰
I love to wear mine too. Might as well announce who I belong to.
Good thing it didn’t hit you in the eye. You were definitely being protected that day.
