I am here to tell you that the life of a blogger is not all fun and games. There are no jets sitting on the tarmac waiting to whisk us away to glamorous destinations every week. Clothing brands are not throwing free clothing and purses at us every time we turn around. You get TONS of emails and messages from men that you have no idea who they are. And, there are times when you just don’t feel like taking a picture or writing a post. But, today was the worst when it comes to blogging, I was terrified. No, I didn’t get a horrible comment or a threatening letter. It was much worse. This morning I got dressed as usual and got ready to go out on the porch to take my pictures. Joe walked through as I was getting my camera ready and said that he was going to take a shower. I grabbed my handbag and tripod and opened the door. Then I stopped cold in my tracks and quickly shut the door. Coiled up in the corner of my door was a snake! Gurls, I HATE snakes!!! I don’t care if it is black, brown, or multi-colored, it crawls and slithers and I don’t want it anywhere near me. I especially don’t want it trying to get in my house!. I yelled for Joe to come and “remove” the creature. He came out, got a hoe to pick it up with but then he couldn’t pick it up. That is when we discovered that part of the snake was stuck in my door. It had tried to crawl into my house and when I closed the door part of it got caught. He had to open the door to get it out. I kept saying, “don’t you let that thing get in my house!” He finally got it picked up with the hoe and took it down to the river and threw it into the grass. YUCK!!!! Say hello to my little friend!Wonder why I look tired and worn out? That is because I didn’t take pictures until I got home this afternoon. I worked all day and then came home and looked around really carefully before I took any pictures. Lol! Have you noticed that boucle tweed items are coming back in style? I have been seeing a lot of these items lately and when I found this top at Ann Taylor the other day, I decided to give the trend a try. I love the Jackie O style of this top. It is the crop style which is very popular right now plus I love the chambray colors of the top. As soon as I saw the top I immediately thought, “jeans and pearls.”
Pearls are classic! I actually have my “good” pearls in a safe deposit box because I had a lot of my jewelry stolen years ago. The rest of my nicer items went to the safe deposit box which is a shame since I never get to wear them. Thankfully, I have all of my costume jewelry to make me happy. Today I am wearing the Janenecklace and an attached pendant. The Shaila large pearl earrings are easy going and you can wear them with jeans or dresses. They are a perfect accessory! May is my 2nd year anniversary with Plunder and I am celebrating all month long. When you make a 50.00 purchase (excluding taxes and shipping) you will receive a FREE piece of jewelry from me as a gift! Join me in the business of Plunder Design this month and I will gift you 2 pieces of jewelry. Go to plunderdesign.com/taniastephens and hit the shop tab. Pick a party with my name on it and then have fun. Old Navy distressed Rockstar jeans are perfect for this look. I love the raw hem and the skinny legs which are perfect for wearing pumps. This pair is a high rise which has taken some getting used to after wearing all the low-rise jeans. I do like the darker rinse jeans best but I have all colors in my closets.
Printed shoes are so much fun. I am not one that normally likes a dainty print and I usually choose large and bold prints instead. But, when I was in Old Navy the other day these pumps somehow found their way into my shopping cart. They just look like spring to me and I knew they would look adorable with jeans or anything else. These are sold out on the website so you might check your local Old Navy. Otherwise, here are a couple cute printed shoes for you to look at.
Tomorrow is my Rodannivesary. The one day of the year when I celebrate all day long with a HUGE sale. If you have been wanting to try Rodan + Fields then tomorrow would be the day to score the best and deepest savings all year long. So, today you need to do your homework. Go and take the Solutions Toolto see what products you will need. Plus, let me educate you on what a Preferred Customer (PC) really looks like. Let’s say that you went shopping and you got up to the counter and the saleslady says, “since you have over 80.00 in your cart, we are going to give you 10% off and also give you free shipping.” “And, in 60 days we are going to email you and see if you need anything else. All orders over 80.00 will recieve the 10% discoutn and free shipping. If you want anything different just update your shopping cart and if you don’t need anything then just delay my next email.”BUT, what if I don’t like the item? What if it doesn’t fit? “No problem, we have a 60-day money back guarantee and it doesn’t matter if you have worn the items for ALL 60 days. We will still take it back!” Now, you tell me…….would you say okay, give me the discount or would you say, “no thanks, charge me full price?” Ladies, don’t EVER buy retail and pay more than you have to, that is just downright not right!
I really appreciate all of the shares and the pins of my outfits that you have been doing. PLEASE continue to do that, you won’t believe the difference it has made in my number of visitors to my blog.
If you like my blog then I would LOVE for you to sign up for my daily emails. Just put your email address in the “Subscribe To The Blog Via Email” box at the top right.
I think the snake is quite pretty. We get lots of snakes around our property all are highly venomous. One learns to behave in a certain way when outside in their habitat but it does get the adrenaline pumping when you spot one. We did however have a King Brown in the house last summer l was not happy he was in my habitat. I often think it must be nice to live in Ireland or New Zealand and be relaxed when outside.
Oh my gosh – is that a copperhead??? Those scare the begeebies out of me!! I don’t mind a black snake (as long as it’s not IN the house like the one I found in my living room a couple of years ago) but anything else is a NO
I agree with you about snakes – yuck!!! Don’t want to see them anywhere near me! I agree with Patsy and Diana’s comments; crop tops are not for me either. Would you consider doing some posts on how to update an existing wardrobe? Many of us don’t have large wardrobes or budgets, but would love to look stylish and up to date. Just a thought. Thanks Tanya! I enjoy your blog and following your adventures!
I don’t like snakes either but they don’t frighten me as much as spiders do. I can’t tell which spiders and snakes are dangerous, other than black widows and rattlers. Hate both! Cute top and shoes!
GIRL! I grew up in the country…..like 5 miles outside of a SMALL town. If a snake made it into the “yard” part of our property, it had to die. I’d have gotten the hoe and that head would’ve been cut right off! Joe was kind to take it down to the river. I wouldn’t have taken the time to go to the creek on our place. Just sayin’. I know there are beneficial snakes. I get it. But, like you, I don’t care to have them near me or my house. This country girl can take out a snake. One time, in our suburban neighborhood, we had one on our fence going out to our garage. I’m pretty sure it was a rat snake. My husband (suburban boy that he is, even though he hunts) didn’t want to kill it. I grabbed the hoe and that baby was DONE. LOL
So cute today. Love the top, but the shape is all wrong for me. So darling on you!! And, I really like that necklace.
No to any crop top for this apple shaped gal. That just accentuates what I want to hide. I LOVE tweed Channel style jackets and a own a few, but they are longer and hide the tummy.
I am so sad that crop tops are the new thing. What about us over-50s who have paunchy stomachs from carrying babies inside them and from gravity? Could you use your influence to persuade designers to let us keep our tunics and flow-y tops? Thanks. BTW — YOU look amazing in your crops!
Patsy, I’ll bet because the ‘high-low’ tops have had their time, (and gotten ridiculously long in the back), designers will go the opposite direction and try to make crop or shorter tops all the rage. That’s just how they work, but doesn’t mean we have to follow what doesn’t look good on us. 😉
My grandson brought a dead, (who cares, if it is a snake) 4 ft. bull snake in the house to scare this Grandma. I told him his life was in my hands, get the snake out!!! He said he never saw me move so fast, darn kids. Love your blog.
Funny you mentioned finding snake in your house -or almost. Saturday I was putting mail in my mailbox and looked down and a snake was coiled up in my newspaper slot staring at me. Talk about scared! My husband grabbed his hoe too but it was gone by time he got there. I’m very careful now when checking mail. Very nice outfit. Love the jeans. I remember not to long ago when high-rise was so not cool. Guess everything does come back around.
I am a science teacher and my head knows snakes are good but my heart says NO!!! I would have been terrified just like you! Thanks for being brave and fashioning on! Love your real life posts!!!
You never can go wrong with pearls! They are so versatile!! The look is very classic, but to me it needs a pop of color. Since I have been subscribing to your blog, I’ve noticed that about you. You’ve changed my way of thinking about colorful clothing and I’ve definitely stepped out of my comfort zone. So I wanted to thank you.
Now about that snake – I personally don’t have a issue with them as long as they are not poisonous. Let’s do talk about that wonderful design on his skin!!
Have a beautiful day!!
Oh my, the snake would have freak me out beyond words. Luckily, you’ve noticed it on time. I love how classic is this look ,yet it’s so effortless. Pearls, tweed and jeans. Love it!
Yicks! I live in the country too and I find myself always looking around when I open my door! Thank goodness Joe was home! LOVE the classic Jackie O look! I style it often on my blog. You look fabulous!
Susanne, I am kind of like the Gabor lady when it comes to living in the country. Hahaha! BTW, the bright yellow looked great on you in your blog post. I love how you always have a saying about Greg at the end. It is so cute.
I would have been just like you if I saw a snake at my door. I hope your day got better. You are great at putting an outfit together with jewelry and accessories. Pearls look great on you.
Oh no ! That would be my worse nightmare. We took a holiday in Florida one year and had a boat ride on the Everglades. A frog was on the bench facing me, I was scared witless and would have preferred to take my chances with the gators than have the frog in the boat lol. It’s the fear of not knowing where it will move to ?
I love how you mixed a “formal” tweed top with distressed jeans. I especially loved your shoes! I too have had snakes at my backdoor, and when I found one curled up in my potted plant, I was done, done, done with my patio. We enclosed the patio and made a sunroom out of it which I can thank that snake for the best decision we ever made on a home improvement project! Keep up the great work on your blog and the encouragement you give daily to all us gurls over 50!
I used to have a HUGE flower garden and I would work in it from morning to night. But, the first time that I saw a snake I would be done for the year. I didn’t care how many weeds would get in it. Lol!
Love your outfit. Classic. Also love the snake and all God’s creatures. Hope he was OK.

I love this look, but couldn’t really get past the whole snake thing!! Yuck! Yet you still look darling, snake or not!!

Three things I hate, real snakes, fake snakes, sticks that look like snakes!
Love the tweed!
This made me laugh super hard. I am 100% with you on this one.

Thanks, Brenda. I love pearls since they are so versatile.

I am not a fan of frogs either but I am even less a fan of gators. Nope, no way.
