Talbots June Try-On Haul: Summer Outfits for Women Over 50 That Feel Fresh and Flattering
Why I Keep Coming Back to Talbots
I could not wait to share my Talbots June Try-On Haul with you. This month’s collection is full of light, flattering pieces that feel just right for summer, and there is a great sale happening too. The Talbots Red Door Pop-Up is going on now through June 15, 2025, and it is one of their best promotions of the season. You can take 40% off one markdown, 50% off two, or 60% off three or more. I will link a few of my favorite sale picks at the end of the post in case you are doing a little shopping.
Now, a quick note before we dive in. I have recently lost a bit of weight, and I am finding myself in that awkward in-between stage with sizing. My usual size 8 is starting to look a little loose in some areas, but the size 6 still feels a bit too snug. If you have been in that boat, you know the struggle. I will share which size I tried in each piece and how it fit, just in case you are dealing with the same thing.
Talbots June Try-On: Colorful, Comfortable, and Summer Ready
Here’s what I tried on this month. I’m sharing what I loved, how things fit with my current sizing struggles, and how I’d style each outfit for everyday life. Also, in case you missed it, here is the recent post I did on Talbots Beach Wear for Women Over 50.
Beautiful Scroll Floral Top with Straight Crop Jeans

This top made me smile the minute I put it on. The scroll floral pattern is so soft and pretty in person, and it lays nicely without clinging. I wore a size large for a relaxed fit, and it felt light and breathable. The straight crop jeans were my usual size 8, but they felt a little roomy through the hips and legs. I think a 6 might have worked better, but I was not ready to squeeze into them just yet.
Style Tip: Try tucking in just the front of the top to give your outfit some shape, and add a structured bag to pull it all together.

These are my favorite walking sandals. It’s like they were made for comfort, which I think they were! With a supportive footbed and soft leather straps, they’re perfect for long days on your feet. I sized up for the best fit and wore them with just about every outfit in this try-on; they go with dresses, shorts, and everything in between.
Charming Cardigan with Wide Ankle Pants

This cardigan feels soft and light, perfect for chilly restaurants or overly air-conditioned spaces. I styled it with wide ankle pants in white, which gave the whole outfit a crisp and polished look. I tried the pants in a size 6. They zipped, but they were a little snug across the tummy. The 8 might have been more forgiving, but I worried they would lose that tailored feel.
Helpful Hint: When you are between sizes, pants with a little stretch can make a world of difference.

Charming Cardigan with Scallop Wrap Linen Skirt

Same cardigan, different look. I paired it with this navy scallop-hem wrap skirt, which I tried on a size 8. It fit well overall, and because of the wrap design, it offered some flexibility around the waist. The scalloped edge is unique and offers a little visual interest. I loved how breezy and coastal this outfit felt, perfect for everything from lunch dates to casual evenings out.
Style Tip: Add a tucked-in tank or soft blouse, a pair of espadrilles, and some delicate jewelry to complete this easy summer look.

Piqué Polo Tank with Relaxed Chino Shorts

This sleeveless polo was such a pleasant surprise. The coral color is cheerful and flattering on most skin tones. I wore a large in the top for a slightly relaxed look and paired it with the chino shorts in a size 6. The vibrant, floral shorts fit, but they were a touch snug, one of those “they’ll be perfect in another week or two” fits.
Helpful Hint: Chino shorts are great if you’re tired of denim. They feel structured but still breathable on hot days.

Bamboo Thong Sandals

These thong sandals are lightweight and minimal in the best way. They slip on easily and work well for casual days when you want something simple and cute. I found them true to size and especially loved them with the coral tank and white shorts.
Pintuck Ruffle Trim Top with Girlfriend Denim Shorts

This ruffled trim top feels so sweet and feminine, but not overly frilly. I went with a medium, and it floated away from the body in the most flattering way. The girlfriend denim shorts in a size 6 fit me better than expected, though they were still on the snug side, but because they are a girlfried style, they fit. The length is modest, and they didn’t ride up when I walked, which is always a win.
Style Tip: This is a great outfit for sightseeing or casual summer dinners. Add a straw hat or statement earrings for a little flair.

Linen Midi Dress in Aqua

This dress was an immediate yes for me. It’s such a pretty shade of aqua, and the linen felt cool and breathable. I tried the size 10 because I didn’t want anything clinging, and it gave me that relaxed silhouette I like in summer dresses. It drapes beautifully without swallowing you up. The only place that it was a little big was under the arms.
Helpful Hint: Add a woven belt to give more shape if you’re on the shorter side or between sizes.

Linen Midi Dress with Linen Blend Travel Ruana

To dress up the linen midi just a bit, I threw on the travel ruana. This wrap is light as a feather and so easy to pack or keep in the car for those chilly indoor spots. It didn’t take away from the look of the dress and added just enough coverage to feel confident.
Style Tip: You can toss this over just about any sleeveless dress or top and instantly feel a bit more polished.
Nantucket Slub Halter Midi Dress

This red, white, and blue halter dress felt festive and fun. I tried the size large, and it fit nicely without clinging too tightly to my midsection. I could see myself wearing this on the 4th of July or to any summer get-together. It has that easy, pulled-together look that doesn’t require much fuss. I probably needed a medium, but they didn’t have that size in the store.
Helpful Hint: A simple pair of hoop earrings and a woven handbag would be the perfect finishing touches.

Here’s the same dress with that ruana layered over the top. It softened the neckline and gave the whole outfit a little more elegance. If you’re planning to be out after sunset or just want more coverage, this is a great solution.
Denim Shift Dress

I always love a good denim dress, and this one checks all the boxes. The medium fit well without being too snug, and the shift style made it easy to move in. It’s casual enough for daytime errands but still looks polished. Plus, it has pockets, need I say more?
Helpful Hint: This dress would be great with sneakers or flat sandals, depending on what your day looks like.

Denim Tie Waist Jumpsuit

Okay, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this jumpsuit, but once I slipped it on, I didn’t want to take it off. It’s soft, forgiving, and the tie waist lets you adjust the fit to your liking. I wore a size 10, which gave me a little extra room to breathe without losing shape.
Style Tip: This one-piece wonder makes getting dressed easy. Add a little jewelry and you’re good to go.

Final Thoughts
This Talbots June try-on had so many gems, even with my current sizing rollercoaster. If you’re in between sizes like me, don’t be afraid to try two and see what feels right. Some pieces are more forgiving than others, and it helps to think about how and where you’ll wear them.
Which outfit would you wear on your next summer outing? Are you leaning toward breezy dresses, polished shorts, or something in between? I’d love to hear your favorite.
