Talbots Semi-Annual Red Door Sale
Cable Knit Poncho and Barely Boot Jeans
Most of these outfits are casual and can be worn in any place where jeans are acceptable. This first outfit has a Non-Iron Perfect Shirt – Yuletide Tartan (Size 10) with a small amount of holiday cheer. The shirt is almost completely sold out, but any button up shirt would work.
I love the cable knit design and the small amount of fringe, but I prefer armholes instead of an open wrap. It would only take but a second to tack the sleeves together to create armholes. I paired the shirt and poncho with a light/medium wash pair of barely boot-cut jeans in my usual size. If you like ponchos and capes, check out the Stylish Ponchos and Capes to Wear Now post.
Striped Sweater and Classic Trouser Jeans
Different colored jeans make a huge difference in the look of any outfit. Light-wash jeans, like the pair I wore above, look casual, while dark-wash jeans look dressier. The natural color I’m wearing with the striped sweater can be dressed up or down, making them very versatile.
This Multi Stripe Sweater is a nice weight, and I love the hip length. The wide ribbing at the cuffs, hem, and funnel neck give the sweater visual interest, and the different colored stripes give it a nice touch.
Megan also styled the Multi Striped Sweater with trouser jeans in a gorgeous medium wash. We both found that these jeans have a lot of stretch, so we sized down for a tighter fit.
Fair Isle Sweaters
Fair Isle sweaters are a favorite of mine for fall and winter. I am built like a ruler, and a Fair Isle sweater helps to give me curves by giving me the illusion of broader shoulders. I paired it with trouser jeans in a dark wash. The wide legs of the jeans balance out the look of my shoulders and create a smaller looking waistline.
I love the purple/lilac and white Fair Isle print against the dark navy background of the Chenille Yoke Sweater. Adding the print at the hem and cuffs makes the sweater look more cohesive.
You can see the width of the trouser legs better in this photo. I love the wide hem of trouser jeans, which are a nice visual.
Here is a different look using the same trouser jeans. The Fair Isle print is different than the usual print around the shoulders. This one covers the entire sweater and makes a big statement.
Women with broad shoulders can’t wear traditional Fair Isle sweaters since they make their shoulders look wider. This style doesn’t focus on the shoulders, so that won’t be an issue. Since there are a lot of large, horizontal patterns, some of you might feel like this sweater could make you larger than you would like.
Megan also styled a Fair Isle sweater but in a light purple color. I loved this color, but they didn’t have it in my size, so Megan decided to wear it instead. This sweater looked fabulous on her, and you can see how it helped to accentuate her curves.
Sequins and Studs
The holidays always have a little bling associated with them. From sparkly sequins to studded jeans, you can choose how much sparkle you want to add to your outfits.
The Shaker Stitch Sweater is different, and I like the marl print of the opal blue sweater. Notice that the sweater has the same ribbed wide cuffs and hem as the striped sweater I styled at the beginning of the post. This sweater is available in a couple of colors, and I actually like the indigo version the best.
These Studded Slim Ankle Jeans are an easy way to add understated bling to your outfit. The studs don’t scream out at you, but they give a nice sparkle. For those who want to look festive without having everyone stare at you, these are the perfect choice.
This outfit creates a little more interest with the large sequin stripes. Even though the stripes are large, the sequins are still subtle. This elevated casual outfit is perfect when you don’t want to wear jeans but don’t want to dress up, either. The Stretch Corduroy Straight Leg Pants come in a wide variety of colors, and I own several of them.
Look closely, and you can see the tiny sequins sparkling. The Wool Blend Turtleneck Sweater is also available in ivory and tan if silver doesn’t match your complexion.
Florals in the Winter?
I love this Bateau Neck Pullover, but I don’t like it paired with the dark wash Slim Ankle Jeans. The sweater is light and airy, and the dark wash is too overpowering. The sweater would look better with the Barely Boot Jeans – Bedford Wash (Size 8) I wore in the first outfit.
This adorable sweater is already trying to herald in Spring, and you will be able to wear this sweater until the weather starts to heat up. Did you notice the striped ribbing at the cuffs and neckline and the scallops at the hem?
Red Quilted Down Puffer Vest and Slim Ankle Jeans
The dark wash jeans look much better with the Red Puffer Vest. Both items have saturated colors, and neither one overwhelms the other.
I wore the Modern Classic Shirt – Dogs of Christmas underneath the puffer for a cute and whimsical holiday outfit. All the dogs are so cute, and each one is wearing a hat or a scarf to give the festive vibe.
The Red Quilted Down Puffer Vest is the perfect lightweight layer for those chilly days when you want to stay warm without feeling bulky. It’s designed with a flattering silhouette and just the right amount of puff to keep you cozy while still looking polished. Plus, it comes in a couple of colors, so you can easily find one that matches your style!
Whimsical Holiday Style
I love whimsical holiday style. The usual whimsical suspects are snowmen, Santas, reindeer, etc., but this sweater has gone to the dogs. 😊
If this lightweight Crewneck Sweater doesn’t bring a smile to your face, something is wrong. This was my favorite item that I tried on, and I still love it! If you wear this sweater, it will bring a smile not only to your face but also to others.
Natural Trousers Worn Two Ways
Yes, you can wear white, ivory, ecru, off-white, and natural jeans in the winter. The fashion police will not come and get you; in fact, you’ll be right on trend.
If you like soft, comfy, and cozy clothing, you’ll love this Crewneck Sweatshirt in the Splendid Dots prints. This is another whimsical outfit without the holiday vibe. I’ve always been a sucker for polka dots, and apparently, so has Megan.
She switched out the polka-dot sweatshirt for a slightly more elevated look. The Bateau Neck Pullover is dressier than the sweatshirt and has the same scalloped hem as the floral sweater I styled above. I love the monochromatic look, and Megan did a great job picking out flattering clothing.

Tania, what a great post w so many flattering outfits! I especially loved the Christmas dog blouse & the red puffer! Those slip on suede shoes look so comfy too! Have a wonderful healthy, blessed New Year!
I am ready for the new year. I start the new year a few pounds up – a few too many cookies – but am not thinking I have got to get 30 pounds off. I like your idea of scheduling -writing it on the calendar – 3 30 minute walks a week. Once this house project is behind us, I might even look for a yoga class to improve my balance. I’m ready! Happpy New Year to you and yours!
I’m looking for a pilates class, but I’m putting that on a February list.
loving that polka dot sweater. already out it in the cart. I had already purchased the floral sweater, just love it.
I’m glad you loved it.
Tania, Really like all the bright colors in the sweaters. Making the winter blues brighter.
Lots to love today from the fair isle sweaters, the red puffer vest, and the bright floral sweater that reminds us spring will come.
Absolutely loved the blue poncho outfit. Also, makes me want to dig out my red quilted vest!
I agree Lisa, I am heading to the closet to get out my red vest jacket.
Love the outfits and sweaters are the best.
I can’t pick a favorite outfit that either one of you tried on. It was so nice seeing Megan’s smiling face again! I am curious if either of you went home with any of the things you tried on.
Ginger, we never leave a store without something. Lol!
