I love all things fashion, but when it comes right down to it, I’m a jeans girl. Denim is never out of style, but different versions trend from season to season. I’m all for wearing what you love, but it’s always good to add something new to your wardrobe. Today, I thought I’d share the best of the trending jeans this winter.

Jeans with frayed hems are having a moment! They are available from every retailer, from Walmart to Neiman Marcus. These are Mother jeans, one of my very favorite denim jeans available from Nordstrom. These are ankle length which is perfect for showing off your cute booties.

Here’s another great pair of denim jeans with a slight flare. Paige is another popular brand sold at Nordstrom. These and Mother jeans are an investment, but they’ll last a very, very long time. They fit so nicely. Be warned. Once you try these, you may never be satisfied with less.

Frayed hems come in all types of denim – skinny, flared, and, of course, wide-leg. There’s just something chic about trouser shape pants. These have large pockets on the back and come in a light wash as well as the pictured dark. They run true to size but don’t go too large. Denim stretches as you wear it, and you don’t want to have a baggy bum!

Yes, straight-leg jeans are still trending! I love the vintage wash on these and the slight distressing. These hit at the ankle and can be worn with casual sneakers or cute boots. Because they’re not flared, I can also cuff them to make sure they hit at the perfect spot, or even tuck them into tall boots! When you pay more for a good pair of jeans, you want to get a lot of wear out of them.

These are Ab-Solution jeans from Democracy. They had me at AB-Solution, lol. I like that these are a cross between a straight leg and a skinny pair of jeans. Not quite skinny, but not boxy. They come in many different colors and washes, including grey, which is another trend. (More about that below.) And these won’t break the bank.

Chambray shirt (Large) || Oversized V Neck Sweater Vest (Large) || Wide Leg Cargo Jeans (Similar) || Chain Loafer (TTS

Cargo pants are a fun trend this year. I used to call these utility or carpenter pants, but either way, they are a fun change. I prefer the ones that don’t have gaping pockets, especially since I don’t need to carry a lot of hammers or nails. Lol!

Drop Shoulder Cashmere Pullover (Similar) || Boyfriend Shirt (Medium) || Wide Leg Jeans – White (8) || BRAHMIN Melbourne Tabitha Shoulder Bag || Sueded heel pumps – TTS || Diamond Dial Watch || Textured Drop Earrings

Keeping up with the latest trends helps to keep me looking modern and youthful. All trends aren’t for me, but I’m embracing wearing wide-leg jeans. Wide-Leg jeans and pants have been on the fashion scene for a bit, but they are currently a BIG trend.

Cropped Jacket (Medium) || Plum Leopard Trapunto Tunic (Medium) || High-Waisted Trouser Jeans (Size 8) || Black Wedge Heels (Size 9)

I’ll be honest: I didn’t like this style when I first started seeing it on the websites. But, like a lot of trends, it has grown on me. I’ve even purchased a few pairs of patch pocket jeans, and I find myself wearing them since they have the unique detail and aren’t like the other 30+ jeans in my closet.

A bootcut or a slightly flared pair of jeans are my favorite style of jeans. Some jeans have an extremely large, oversized flare, but I prefer the smaller, more subtle version. Maybe I am showing my age. 🤷‍♀️ The great thing about fashion is that you get to choose what you like and wear what you want.

As I mentioned above, grey jeans are definitely on trend this fall/winter. This pair from Dillard’s is for my petite gurls. If you click the link, it will take you straight to the petite sizes. Don’t worry, of course they are available in misses and plus sizes.

This combines two of the trends into one great pair of jeans. I love the dove grey color, and the length of the straight leg. These are from Lee which is known for making affordable jeans. I know some of you can’t get behind the high rise so you’ll be happy to know that these are midrise. If you don’t love the grey, no worries. They come in several other colors and washes.

And finally, a nice mid-rise flare in grey. These are also by Lee, which means they are an affordable option. I’ve mentioned before that flare jeans are great for making the leg look slimmer. There’s something about the way they hug the leg, and then flare out that makes for a pretty silhouette. Wear them with a heel to elongate the leg even more.

What about it, Gurls? What’s your favorite trending jean?

    I well fix the soon..

  3. Nancy Steinke says:

I love all the new styles of jeans, except wide leg. I am short, 5’2″, but not petite, and long waisted, so I am buying as many high rise jeans I can afford.

  4. My 2 least expensive pairs of jeans have frayed hems. I’m too afraid that the look is on its way out soon to spend much money on them. What looks sharper than jeans with a black turtleneck; with a crisp white shirt; and/or with a white t-shirt and navy blazer?! I love jeans!

  5. The mid-rise flare are perfect, and I really like the dark grey. The other grey jeans are also really my idea of what jeans should be.
All my jeans are currently too baggy behind. It’s difficult finding some that are not so large in the seat, but large enough in the waist. I like the mid-rise for that reason.

  6. Susan McMillan says:

I love the frayed jeans, makes it easy to cut to my length, lol.

  7. Jeans are my favorite!!

  8. Elizabeth says:

Now that I am retired, I am a jeans girl, too. I appreciate all the styles you have shown. My favorite is the patch pocket style.

  9. Susan ann Koren says:

Straight leg jeans will always be my go-to!

  10. I enjoy your outfit selections! I’m a Talbots lover!

  11. Can never find jeans long enough for me!
I’m 5’9” and most jeans are too short!!! Any ideas would be appreciated !!

    1. My daughter is 5’11” and she used to buy jeans from Buckle. They had long inseams available, she wore a 36″.

  12. I think I’m going to try the wide leg jeans.

  13. I like the flare jeans but I think I may buy the wide leg jeans and give them a try!

  14. Jan Rayner says:

I’m really loving the gray, and Democracy/Wit & Wisdom is one of the few brands that offer petite
lengths as an option. Those gray ones are going right into my shopping cart!

    1. I hope you love them, Jan!

  15. Patt Dyal says:

I love the gray jeans, too!! I have two this fall, one dark charcoal gray and the other pair soft gray. And it was cool enough today in Georgia to enjoy one of the sweaters you shared.

    1. It was more than cool here in Virginia. It was in the 30s this morning. 🥶️

  16. I like the flare/boot cut jeans the most.

  17. Nice selection of jeans; I’m so happy high-waisted ones are back in fashion. Low riders fit quite differently in my 60’s than they did in my 20’s. Muffin top is not a good look!

  18. Hi, I love the winter jean post with the white jeans. Do you consider wearing white in winter acceptable? I was thinking of buying the white jeans from Talbots but wasn’t sure about the color.

    1. I wear white all year round. I actually like wearing white pants and jeans better than ivory or winter white.

  19. I love your page and get great style ideas when I never know what to wear!!
    Thx!

  20. Alexia Maben says:

I bought a pair of straight leg jeans from Old Navy wearing them for almost a year. I am petite and these were a short straight leg. It is hard finding jeans that help height but not over whelm a petite women. Thank you for posts on the jeans.

    1. I’m glad that you found this post helpful! Thanks for commenting! 😊

  21. Laura Garrett says:

I pretty much live in jeans on a daily basis. Bought my first pair of Judy Blue last week and wondering if you have any experience with the brand. They’re a modern straight style with patch pockets in the front, so I’m liking the look, and hoping they’ll wear nicely.

  22. Jacque Abell says:

Gray jeans, I’ll have to get.

  23. Ginger Hiller says:

It’s easier for me to say which jeans trend I don’t like than it is to say which I do like. I’m not really crazy about the patch pockets or cargo jeans. I never really liked skinny jeans, lots of distressing, and gapping rips (holes). Isn’t it great that we do have so many options!

    1. I agree is it awesome that we have so many styles to choose from!

  24. Jenniffer Groski says:

I’m going to try the patch pocket jeans as they come in short length! That’s been the hardest thing about the flare and wide leg jeans as the ones I can afford don’t often come in short length. And it’s a great price on the patch jeans you’re featuring!

  25. $238 for jeans? With frayed hems? I must be getting old bc NO THANKS! Lol (but I know you have other options😉)

    1. I always try to give a wide range of options. Some prefer affordable options, but others want higher end.

  26. Janice Nagle says:

My favorite jeans are high rise, straight leg jeans. I own the grey Lee jeans, and I love them! They are comfortable, and are a great neutral that goes with everything!

  27. Thanks for sharing all these jeans. The frayed hem are my favorite, they fit you perfectly.

  28. I love all the jeans that are shown.
I wear jeans everyday I like all the choices.
I’m glad to see the unhemmed jeans
I have a Lot of them.

  29. Straight leg hemmed are my favorite especially in a dark wash.

  30. I really liked the gray Lee flares! Might have to give them a try.

  31. I’m really liking flares right now. I do have to wear a heal with them. Way back when everyone wore them sandals or tennis shoes and they dragged the ground. I remember that driving my mom crazy.

  32. I think I’ll give the frayed jeans a try. I’m ready for something new and trendy even in my 60s.

  33. I think I will be wearing my same old jeans this winter. The styles are everywhere on the map!!

    1. I like when there are various styles as I too have my favorites.

  34. Jenniffer Groski says:

Since they come in short lengths I’m going to try the patch pocket jeans!! That’s been the hardest part of the flare and wide leg trends is not a lot of brands I can afford come in short length. I’m excited and it’s a great sale right now too!

  35. Roberta Schwandner says:

I like a dark wash finished hem in my jeans. I did like some of the choices.

  36. I really like the sweater vest with the denim shirt. I will be ordered that vest. I already have the shirt. 🙂 Great post on the jeans too.

  37. I like bootleg or small flare, wide leg, and straight leg jeans. They’re all in my closet. I even bought the small patch pockets ones from Loft. I’m glad there’s a variety. I noticed there’s a lot of mid rise jeans now. Bummer for me because high waisted works for my body type. For years you couldn’t find any. I hope they continue making different waist options.

  38. I like a slightly wide-leg pant, but my 80’s self can’t get on board with the 70’s super high waist and bell bottom thing very much. HA! And the super wide leg pants make me think of the skater boi look. I love a raw hem, but the ones with strings hanging off look like the pants I tried to fray myself. Eek. Some GREAT options in this post though, but I’m not trendy enough to try them all.

    1. I’m not a huge fan of the super wide pants, but I like a moderate wide look.

  39. Linda Shearer says:

Really like the high rise trouser jeans. I already bought the top so might buy them and the jacket now.

All these picks look great on you.

  40. The patch pocket jeans may take some getting use to. I love the dark gray & the straight jeans. So far I’m not loving the wide leg jeans but those white ones look fabulous on you!

  41. The straight legs are nice. But the frayed hem are not for me. Same for holes. I guess my age is showing! But great ideas to share.

  42. Great jean selection!!

  43. I’m also such a denim girl, Tania! I love the wide legs and the flares and a big yes on frayed hems and my new grey jeans are getting a lot of wear. But I feel blah and rather frumpy in straight legs. Thanks for such a great post!

  44. Dana Smithmier says:

Straight for the moment but im trying to like flares😄

  45. Carole from Canada says:

Love your post on jeans today. I bought a pair of mid rise kicker boot cut jeans from Old Navy. They fit perfectly and the kicker boot cut is just the right flare….not too much and fit over my ankle boots perfectly.
Always look forward to your posts every day. Thank you!!

  46. Love this! I am finding that I can wear jeans to places that I never used to (like activities at church – I even wore cordoury to church last Sunday!) I bet my mother is watching incredulously from her heavenly home – jeans at church – never! Love that women “of a certain age” are embracing new fashion ideas.I love your blogs for that kind of encouragement.

    1. Yes, jeans are way more acceptable than they used to be. Trouser jeans look dressy, and darker colors look even dressier.

  47. I love that grey is trending. Having another color choice is great. I need to step out of the box and try the wide leg pant. My favorite pair of jeans right now are some black corduroy pants.

  48. I’m definitely a jeans girl.

  49. Linda Lloyd says:

Do you remember patchwork jeans from the 70s? That’s what patch pocket jeans remind me of. I am loving the wide leg trend this season though. I am even wearing a black pair with a blazer to the office and loving it. Thanks for the other options though, some worth looking into if you’re a jeans lover like me!

    1. Patchwork jeans are a thing now too. Lol! The first time I saw the patch pockets, I thought I was looking at the back of the jeans. Hahaha!

  50. I would like to buy a new pair of jeans, but need to try them on. I see some on people and you and love the look, but just unsure of the size. Also, are the pricier jeans worth it? Last pair I bought was the Buckle size 27, not sure how that would compare with other brands, like Chicos and Talbots.

    1. I haven’t bought anything from Buckle in over 20 years, so I can’t really compare them.

  51. Like the itty-bitty boot cut, just the right amount of flare for me.

  52. I’m a shortie and have some fluff (😜), so I have to be careful with jeans/pants in general so I don’t look like I’m playing dress-up. 😆 This is a great list! My faves are the whites from Talbots and the pull-ons from Dillard’s. I probably would have never tried patch pockets, either, but you look adorable and I just might have to try some on myself. 😊

  53. I love any frayed denim!

    1. Alexia Maben says:

I bought a pair of straight leg jeans from Old Navy wearing them for almost a year. I am petite and these were a short straight leg. It is hard finding jeans that help height but not over whelm a petite women. Thank you for posts on the jeans.
