THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE

50 Is Not Old | Light of MineIn church last Sunday, our preacher was talking about children. How enthusiastic they are about almost everything. The illustration he gave was singing in Sunday School. He said he could remember everyone singing, “This little light of mine” and how excited everyone would get when the devil tried to whoosh out their light.

We all have a light, do we let it shine, or does the devil whoosh out your light? We make it so easy for the devil, he doesn’t even have to try very hard. To list a few things that can put out your light, how about worry? Is their anyone who does not worry? The economy is bad and people worry about their jobs. Maybe someone close to you is having health issues, how do you not worry about that? Marital problem can be worrisome for some, and children never seem to quit worrying a parent.

How about jealousy? Does the devil put thoughts of inadequacy in your mind? Is there someone who always seems to have everything? The perfect husband/wife, children that never cause problems, a new house or car, or a career that you long for. Shouldn’t we be satisfied with what we have, after all the Lord is who gave us our possessions?

Gluttony, idolatry, pride, or telling those little white lies, are all light dulling traits. If you were face to face with the Lord, would you tell him he didn’t give you enough “things”, or that someone else had more? Would you tell him that you didn’t think he could handle your problems, so you worried even though the bible says “Do not fear” 365 times?

Let your light shine! Don’t let the devil whoosh it out!!! Let it shine…..

Thank you for sharing. It is hard at times to not let things of this world dull our light. I always remember the woman in the Bible with the issue of blood. How she must have been in agony both physically and mentally. Her faith was amazing. She struggled, she had pain, and yet she fought so hard to get to Jesus just to touch the hem of his garment. She was healed!!! Knowing we can all have that same kind of faith and healing is enough to keep letting my light shine! No matter the cloud over me, the opposition against me, the pain inside me or the struggle within me…I try to let my little light shine. Hope you all have a wonderful day!

    1. Thanks so much Gayla for reminding us all that Jesus can, and does, heal the sick and weary.

  5. Excellent post! I found it ring very true to my heart since I’ve been struggling to reach my goal weight after staying the course for almost 2 years and that darn number on the scale can ruin my day, which then ruins my ability to serve the Lord properly. Loved the video, too!

You wear the longer waterfall style cardigans so well and I am beginning to buy a few, hoping to cover that mid-drift bulge no amount of exercise will tighten but could use some pointers. Perhaps – hint, hint – you could do a future blog with ideas on whether to go down a size do they don’t swim on us, length that is most flattering and styling tips. I’ve purchased a few but they seem to overwhelm my 5’2″ frame.

    Have a wonderful Sunday!

    1. Congratulations on the weight loss Audrey. I know that it is hard to learn how to style a completely different body when you lose weight. Clothes you chose in the past, are not usually correct for the body you now have. The hardest thing to master is fit. Wearing clothing that is too big on you makes you look bigger than you are, and even sometimes frumpy. Wearing clothing too tight will show every roll and bump you have, and that is not usually a look most of us want. The closer to the body, without showing ALL the rolls, the better because it will be more slimming. I’ll work on an upcoming post:)

  6. I really needed to hear this message! Thank you and love your outfit – wish I could see the entire ensemble. Have a great week.

    1. I plan on putting the whole outfit on the blog one day this week. I just put a head shot for Sunday so you’ll know who is talking to you. Lol!

  7. Love it great reminder as I go once again to work and deal with the public. Easy to get worn down by rudeness!
Relighting my lamp with Jesus love and
    Coffee!
    Enjoy so much your blog!
    Prayers

  8. I look forward to your Sunday messages just as much as the other six days of fashion and fun. You have a gift!

  9. Beautiful! Thank you for a great message today!

  10. Those are beautiful words. Having a lung dissease it is sometimes hard but it also bought me some insites in what really is important in live. When I look around me so little people appreciate what they have, it all seem to turn around money and working instead of enjoying. Gladly I dont know what jalousy nis, never been jalouse! I am blessed for that!

  11. Thanks for the video and song. You sure do let your light shine, Tania.

  12. I want to see your whole outfit! LOVE the black and white!

  13. I deal with some chronic health issues which can bring me down pretty easily, among other challenges. I admit that it’s all too easy to allow myself to be brought down into self-pity, worry, and depression.

When I find myself having a why-me pity party, it helps me to remember these words:

“And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
yet he rather chooses to glory of his infirmities

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”

I don’t always understand God’s ways, but I know that He loves me and that nothing can touch me unless He allows it; therefore, it must be for my good.

God bless you, Tania, and thank you for this post. I needed it. Big hugs.

    1. Thank you for sharing, Alyson. There are so many things to be thankful for, and I truly feel blessed. I am saying a prayer for you and your health issues.
