WEARING GREEN FOR ST. PATRICK’S DAY
Does anyone LIKE to be pinched? I’m pretty sure the answer is no to that question. I am all about helping you gurls out, so today, I’ll be showing you options that will keep the pinchers at bay. Of course, I’m talking about wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day to keep from getting pinched.
Green is a color that I didn’t embrace until a few years ago. I’m just now learning how to wear this color and finding which shades work best for me. Vivid colors always draw my attention, so Kelly Green is a favorite of mine. However, I’ve recently (like last fall) embraced Olive. Olive has never worked for me in the past, so I’m not sure if it is my skin tone, hair color, or if brands are using a different shade of Olive, but something changed. I’m telling you this so that you will occasionally try things that didn’t work in the past to see if that is still true.
Gingham is one of my all-time favorite prints! It is a “happy” print, and it always makes me smile. Maybe it is because I associate a picnic with this print; after all, who doesn’t have fun on a picnic? This green and white Gingham Lightweight Cotton Shirt is the perfect spring shirt! It has long sleeves for chilly mornings that can be rolled up as the temperatures rise.
Here is a look at the back of the shirt so you can see the length. I did a half-tuck in the front and left the shirt long in the back. I’m wearing a medium, but I think a large would have been more comfortable. I don’t like the buttons to pull or gape open, so I’m sending this back for a larger size.
It is still cool here most of the day, so I would probably add a lightweight jacket, cardigan, or sweater with my gingham shirt to keep me warm. I thought about adding a navy cardigan to my outfit since navy and green are one of my favorite color combinations. However, since St. Patrick’s Day will be here in a couple of days, I added a green crewneck sweater instead.
The Teddie Sweater looks adorable over the gingham button-up shirt. The sweater is lightweight and not bulky, so it is a perfect layering sweater. You can wear the sweater alone or under a jacket if you don’t want to pair it with a collared shirt. This sweater comes in lots of different colors, and you are bound to find a couple of colors that would be perfect for you. I’m wearing a medium, and it fits me great. You can size up if you want a more relaxed look.
I added gold jewelry to my look. Gold is my metal color of choice, and I wear it more times than not. The Adeline Hoop Earrings are a new pair that I love. They are great middle-size earrings; they are thin and lightweight. These hoops make a statement without going too BIG. My long two-strand necklace is the Davis three-strand necklace, but I have un-attached one of the strands. I love that I can choose which strand to wear or wear all three together. That makes this necklace extremely versatile and one that you will get a lot of wear from. The last piece of jewelry is my Cross Charm Pendant Necklace in 18k Gold Vermeil. I wear this necklace daily and rarely take it off.
This Ivory Faux-Leather with chain link details is perfect for spring and summer. I love the color; it is a great neutral that will go with anything! The chain links are a unique detail that helps this handbag stand out. This handbag also has a removable pouch in the same material that you can use separately or in the handbag.
These slim boyfriend jeans are a pair of light wash jeans, and I like a light wash in spring and summer. Darker jeans would look great with the bright green, but I wanted to try the slim boyfriend jeans, and they are only available in this light wash color. Usually, I size down when I wear boyfriend jeans, so I did that with these jeans. I should have ordered my usual size because the “slim” version is already sized down. So, these run true to size, and remember to order the size you usually wear. There are a lot of jeans to choose from in different colors and styles, and they are affordable.
I have been looking for a pair of white low-top sneakers like I wore in the good ole days. This pair of Retro white sneakers by Madewell was precisely what I was looking for, and I love the overall look. They have a cushioned insole, and they are comfortable to walk in, but I think they run a little big. I ordered my usual size, and they are too long for me, so they have to go back. I would suggest ordering down a half-size if you are between sizes.
You don’t have to wear green clothing for St. Patrick’s Day, but you might want to consider wearing or carrying something green to avoid getting pinched. Here are some things that might work for you if you don’t like to wear green.

I like the green sweater. And your hair is looking extra good in the photos. 💚
Awww, thanks, Patti! It is always nice to get a compliment like that.
You said that green wasn’t one of your faves until a few years ago. I am the same way and Kelly green is my favorite too. I’m thrilled with the spring colors that are coming out. The last few years have been duds in the color department for me. The green looks so good on you.
I’m thrilled with the spring colors this year too. I love BRIGHT and BOLD!
Very nice shade of green and it looks good on you. I like the sweater alot and I like so many of the colors it’s available in.
The sweater is very versatile, and one that can be worn all year long.
You look great in green! Love the gingham
Thanks, Kathy!
love, love, love the green outfit! I received my first order from Kendra Scott and got those earrings. love them! Now I need that necklace! gurl you are going to get me in trouble with my hubby. LOL
Vicki, that made me snicker. Kendra Scott has become an obsession of mine, but I try to stick with gold or silver instead of trendy jewelry. That way I can wear them for years and years. I feel like I get my money’s worth then.
I love the look! Gingham is so fun! And layered with the sweater, genius!
I loved adding the sweater. I’ll be showing the sweater in other ways later on.
I love everything about this outfit! The green is such a pretty shade, and looks lovely on you. i’d have to try it on to check the color on me, so I might just order it and see.
Trying it is the only way to know if it will work for you. My daughter has dark hair, and this is a color that looks great on her too.
You’re rockin the Green Gurl! Love the way you describe the fit of the clothing you feature. Thanks.
Thanks, Nancy. I’m glad the fit description is helpful!
Green looks great on you! Love anything gingham😀
I love all things gingham too!
As a redhead I LOVE green! This shade of green is lovely on you. Today’s outfits have my name written all over them!
My DIL is a redhead, and she looks great in all shades of green.
Love you in green. Kelley and navy have been a favorite of mine since college. It is quite the preppy combo…..Just my style.
I am always ready for a St.Patrick’s parade or party!
Sue, my daughter went to the St. Patrick’s festivities in Savannah, and she said it was awesome!
Cute outfits today. You look good in green!
Thanks! I thought it was super cute!
Love the outfit. I’m not a green person either but I see why you gave it another try. That gingham shirt is adorable.
I love the gingham shirt and it is available in other colors too if you just can’t do green.
