What Are The Best Jeans For Women Over 50
Jeans are probably the clothing item that I wear the most. But, when you ask women what clothing item is the hardest to find a good fit for, jeans will probably be the answer. So, today we are going to address what are the best jeans for women over 50.
Finding the perfect pair of jeans is hard but not impossible. The first thing you’ll want to remember when selecting jeans is to consider both the fit and style. It doesn’t matter how stylish a pair of jeans are. You’ll never be comfortable in jeans that are too tight or too loose, and they will be unflattering. The good news is that there are a lot of jeans you can try. Keep trying new brands and styles until you find a fit that works for your body type.
How to Style Jeans
Don’t be afraid to experiment with different tops, shoes, and accessories. I love experimenting with my clothing so I don’t get caught in a rut. You can dress a classic pair of jeans up or down depending on the occasion, making them a versatile and essential piece in everyone’s wardrobe. For a dressed-up look, try pairing your jeans with a blouse, heels, and statement jewelry. For a more casual look, try pairing them with a t-shirt, sneakers, and a denim jacket.

Choosing the Right Style and Fit of Jeans
We all know that when we were younger, everything seemed to look good. But, for women over 50, it can take a little more effort. Try higher-rise jeans if you haven’t already since they can be more flattering. This style of jeans helps to elongate the leg and create a long and lean look. Straight or wide-leg jeans can also be more flattering than skinny jeans because they create a more balanced look.
When shopping for jeans for a woman over 50, it’s important to consider the fit, wash, and level of distressing. Darker washes tend to be more dressy, slimming, and elongating, making them a good choice for women over 50. Most ladies over 50 don’t care for faded and overly distressed jeans, but slight distressing is fine, just leave the huge gaping holes to the younger crowd. A darker wash with minimal distressing will always look timeless.
I know it may be painful, but it’s okay to splurge on a high-quality pair of jeans. These jeans can be a wardrobe staple and worn for many years. Look for brands that are known for their fit, comfort, and durability. If they make you feel confident and comfortable, then they are worth the extra money spent.

Jean Trends
When it comes to trends, there are many different jeans for women over 50 available. Classic jeans are more timeless and universal, while trendy styles are more current, but they may go out of style more quickly.
On the other hand, trendy jeans tend to be more attention-grabbing and fashion-forward. These styles tend to be bolder and statement-making and can be a fun way to add some personality to your wardrobe. Some styles are trendy jeans are frayed hem jeans, jeans with distressed, cropped wide-leg jeans, etc. Just be careful not to get too crazy with your jeans choices – no one wants to see a 50-year-old woman trying to rock a pair of acid-wash, low-rise jeans from the 90s. Trust me; it’s not a good look.

Rules for Wearing Jeans Over 50
There are a few types of jeans that women over 50 should “generally” avoid. However, there are no concrete RULES that say you can’t still wear any pair of jeans you prefer. You might not end up on the cover of Vogue in a pair of skinny jeans, but the fashion police won’t come and arrest you either. I still have a few pairs of skinny jeans in my closet, but mainly just to wear with my knee boots. I’ve replaced most of them with slim straight-leg jeans instead.
- Skinny jeans: Skinny jeans can be unflattering on women over 50, as they tend to cling to the leg and can make the leg look shorter, and your body doesn’t look proportioned. Instead, opt for a straight-leg or a wide-leg silhouette, which will elongate the leg and create a more balanced and flattering look.
- Low-rise jeans: Low-rise jeans can be unflattering on anyone, but especially on women over 50, as they can cut off the leg at an unflattering point and create an awkward silhouette. #muffintop Instead, look for a higher rise that will elongate the leg and create a smoother silhouette.
- Overly distressed or faded jeans: Don’t get me wrong…I still love my distressed jeans. I am choosing to go with smaller holes and distressing. While distressed or faded jeans may be trendy for younger women, they can make you look like you’re trying too hard. A darker wash is more slimming and elongating, and although it isn’t trendy, it is always classic and chic.
- Tight or restrictive jeans: As we age, it’s important to choose comfortable clothing that doesn’t constrict movement or circulation. Avoid jeans that are too tight or restrictive, and look for styles that offer a little bit of stretch for comfort.
Straight Leg Jeans

Wide Leg Jeans

Basically, the key to finding the most flattering jeans for a woman over 50 is to choose a fit that is comfortable and style them in a way that is stylish. Don’t be afraid to try on different brands and fits, and remember to accessorize to create a look that is put together. Most of all, have fun with your jeans! After all, fashion is meant to be enjoyed, not taken too seriously.

I am loving the straight legged jeans. This reminds me that I need to get rid of my really distressed jeans! Thank you for the reminder!
I enjoy my skinny(but not tight) jeans, as well as straight leg jeans from Old Navy. The Talbot’s straight legs look great, too.
I absolutely love NYDY jeans. Fit is fabulous. I buy them in 2 colors. My favorites are the wide leg crops and the Marilyns.
I love those, too. I also love the Teresa wide leg jeans.
Great tips on jeans, thanks
Thank you for sharing all the different styles and ideas. It’s definitely hard to find a good pair of jeans. I buy jeans and within 2 hours they’re stretched out and falling down in the waist. Enjoy your weekend.
Hilarioys about the bacon!! 😂😂 I’m about to be shopping for new jeans. Thanks for sharing ideas!!
Good morning Tania! Thanks for showing us some great options in jeans. Hope you have a great day!
I am not between sizes right now, I am now above my fat jeans weight, hard to find Jeans, that
fit right. Recently gained due to medical issues and can’t find anything that looks right, I am to big in the butt and belly and hips, help what would be the best jeans to try – I am more apple then pear shape??
Suggestions???
Jeanne, since apple shapes tend to hold their weight in the middle of their bodies, you want a wider leg or flare leg jean to try and balance out your shape.
Thanks I do like the wider and flare leg jean, so maybe it will work.
Try plus sized Levi’s. I wear size 22. They stretch and bend. Very comfy and very stylish.
I’m skeptical, but I guess I need to try the wide leg jeans. You’re right, it really just takes time and patience to find the right jeans that work for you.
I am 59, chubby and despite owning more pairs of jeans than any one person needs, I will admit that I don’t love any of them. I am at that awkward spot that regular size jeans aren’t comfortable for my tummy and plus size jeans are too baggy. I carry my weight in the middle and have fairly slender legs. I describe myself as being DEEP not WIDE!
