WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE – PLAID STYLE

Gurls, I hate to scare you with this photo, but this is my current situation. I’m having one of those sinus/neck/headache days, and I’m feeling crappy. My day started off good and I even got dressed and put on makeup before 9 am which has to be a record if I don’t have an appointment. I filmed a YouTube video, and then the yuckiness set in. I’m guessing it is a weather issue, and I hope to be better by tomorrow. So, today’s blog post is taking a twist. We are looking at models from a popular retailer, and asking the question, “what would you change?”

Plaid Blazer // Christmas Tree Sweater // Slim Ankle Jeans in Dark Wash // Driving Flats in Tartan Plaid

Have you ever gone to a store and looked at a mannequin and thought they must have dressed it in the dark? Lol! I think that retailers might be guilty of trying a shock us with the looks they put on the mannequins. Usually, models on the website of these retailers are dressed better, but I still find myself wanting to TWEAK the look and make it Taniafied. Lol!

Today, we are going to tweak this look from Talbots and comment on what you would change. I always love reading why something works or doesn’t work for you, and I’m sure the other ladies love reading the comments also.

This Tartan plaid outfit is gorgeous, but there are elements that I would still tweak. I love this plaid blazer, but I would ask myself if I would wear it more than at Christmas. If the answer is no, then I would opt for a blazer I would get my money’s worth from like the ones below.

I would probably pick a solid-colored top, and not one with Christmas trees since that limits how often I could wear it. I do love navy with this blazer though, and I think it makes the red POP! Here are some picks for a different top.

I think the jeans are perfect!!! I had these modern slim ankle jeans already, mine are just a different color. They fit great and look awesome. I sized down to an 8 for my perfect fit.

The last item of this look is the driving loafers. I am on the fence with these shoes, especially since I think they are beautiful! My issue is the same as the one I had with the blazer, would I wear them enough? If the answer is no, then I might choose one of these instead.

For those who LOVE plaid, I’m going to link to some plaid items that I loved from Talbots. BTW, they are still having great sales, and I expect them to continue all the way through the New Year.

Love the whole thing! I have a plaid ,red, that I wear all winter. Plaid shoes and sock not all together. Decided I should move somewhere I can wear fall, winter clothes all year!

  2. hope you feel better soon Tania ! lemon tea….eucalyptus or fir or pine in the humidifier……

  3. I loved this post! It was fun reading the ideas from your other readers about how they would tweak this outfit. Hope you will do more posts like this in the future. Praying for your speedy recovery.

  4. Hope you feel better Tania. Christmas time is such a tough time to be down and out.
Love the red plaid blazer and apparently many others do too, since it’s sold out in many sizes.
I don’t think I would wear it much other than around Christmas time as you say. It’s fun to have a few pieces like that though…so maybe if they had had it in my size I would have bought it. I like the other way Talbot’s styled it; with the blue sweater. The navy is too dark for me and not as festive.
Also, I don’t know if I’d wear the blazer and the shoes at the same time. May be a little too much plaid.
    Jeans look great with it!
    Take care, be well!

  5. Lynn Watson says:

I agree Christmas sweaters are fun but limiting. Like the blazer. I’d probably buy it in red because I wear strong coloured bottoms

  6. Jo Shaffer says:

I would probably wear a solid top but the rest of the outfit is a definite “Yes!” Of course I’ve been wearing Christmas sweaters and jewelry since Dec. 1 and I’ve already worn my plapid shoes and red boots a couple times each.

  7. God, you truly look amazing. I am 53 feeling 73, my hair is awful, I hate my face and makeup skills are crap. Menopause is playing havoc and feel like no matter what I buy I always look bland and boring and often think mum would wear what I do. HELP XX

  8. I am really liking the sweater and the shoes! I could wear these shoes through Valentine’s Day. However, because you are limited to the holidays, I would wait for a BIG sale.

  9. Tania, I actually am imitating your look today LOL! Because I feel exactly the way you described that you feel. Hopefully tomorrow we will both be right back on top. I love the plaid but I have to agree I don’t think I’d wear it enough.

  10. I LOVE the look. I love tartan plaids. My mother was from Scotland. I hope you feel better. I feel the same way. Maybe it is all the wind and the weather changes. Very sad about all the tornados.

  11. Melesa Garrison says:

I’m not much on blazers, in this particular outfit, I would go with the blazer and skip the plaid shoes. maybe go with some black mules or pointy toed boots. I hope you feel better asap. BTW, you look great!

  12. Jamie Mullins says:

I love parts of the outfit just wouldn’t wear it all together!

  13. The outfit is nice . Might try a more muted color plaid blazer. The plaid shoes are way over the top. Wouldn’t do red shoes at all, probably black booties. Maybe a slim red belt.

  14. Ginger Hiller says:

I hope that you are feeling better soon! Sinus pain is just awful. Regarding the outfit: I am not a blazer wearer, so I would change that out for a cardigan. I enjoy wearing Christmas tops that suit my personality, if the price isn’t ridiculous, so in this case I would go with a top that I could wear more than just a few weeks. The plaid shoes are over the top, for me, so I would wear a pair of solid color mules/slides.

  15. Charlcy L Green says:

I hope you feel better very soon and will say a prayer for you! I love, love those shoes and I even love the blazer! The sweater would be for another day tho.

  16. I love the whole outfit. But that’s just me, I have a weakness for everything Christmas.

  17. Sorry you aren’t feeling well. It’s gotta be tough for you when you have a daily blog to do. I hope you’ll be feeling better soon.

  18. Hope you are better in no time! Great post!

  19. Do more of these….I love it! Hope you’re feeling better very soon.

  20. Feel better! I loved the sweater from yesterday – just didn’t get the chance to say so. I found a similar one since Nordstrom didn’t have my size or color. So I’m happy as it’s on it’s way!

  21. Jenniffer says:

Feel better soon!! Praying for a speedy recovery. I would not wear the plaid blazer as I have broad shoulders and I’m afraid I would look like a tablecloth-lol!! I know people this would look adorable on.

  22. I agree, the navy tree sweater wouldn’t be worn enough to justify the cost. I’d choose a solid navy sweater or just a white button up blouse. Also, although I LOVE the red plaid blazer and loafers, I wouldn’t wear them past Christmas. The navy & green plaid blazer would get more wear time, and just solid navy or brown loafers. If I do brown loafers then I would add brown leather belt.
    Feel better soon.

  23. I do hope you feel better soon. As far as the plaid, maybe either the shoes or the jacket but not both tofether. Definately a holiday season only look so too limiting for me. .

  24. beth byrd says:

This outfit is fun — and perfect for the holidays. I’d probably wear the jacket and the shoes in the fall — but I’d wear them separately.

I have very wide feet so I’m pretty limited as to my shoe selection. If I had narrower feet, I’d buy those shoes in a second!!

I hope you feel better — this is a rough time of year to be under the weather! Take care.

  25. Kathy Almonte says:

Feel better soon!! I love this post. My first reaction was it’s too holiday specific. I love your alternate suggestions….
    especially all of the shoes.

  26. Katherine says:

    Tania,
So sorry you are feeling so crappy, I never like to see anyone feeling under the weather. It must be very cold in your neck of the woods.
The entire outfit is way too matchy match, it’s not my style. It’s cute for the person that is into this look, also very limited time you can wear this.
Take care of your sweet self.

  27. Feel better Tania🙏 I love the look but, like you, probably wouldn’t wear it after the holidays. A solid blazer and a plaid scarf would be my look.

  28. I love the plaid blazer and shoes, but would probably wear them separately. I have a red coat that I wear only around the holidays. I too stay away from plaids and things that scream holidays. Hope you feel better soon!!

  29. Confession. I’m very challenged at budget conscious shopping. If it’s the right item for a vacation or holiday, I’ll buy it anyway, even if I only wear it on a vacation or holiday. I have beach vacation clothes, traditional/conservative clothes, mountain clothes, western clothes and the perfect outfit for every holiday. It’s my incentive to watch my weight so that I can wear them year after year!😆.

  30. Hope you feel better sooon.

  31. I like the tartan plaid blazer and coordinating shoes, especially as a holiday look. I’m not sure I would wear them after the holiday season. But they sure are festive and fun.
Hope you get to feeling better. Neck pain, headaches, sinus…..definitely can bring you down. I see you have a heating pad wrapped around your shoulders. I love a good heating pad and would be lost without mine.

  32. Since I have red shoes and a red jacket I would probably just go with a plaid scarf. I do love this look though so if it were a gift I would be super happy!

  33. I usually go with solids and just admire the novelty jackets from afar, The times I’m tempted, I just don’t wear them much. I’m a little more adventurous with shoes. I wouldn’t wear the shoes with the jacket though. One star at a time is my motto.
Feel better soon and be kind to yourself.

  34. Sorry you aren’t feeling well. I have similar issues now with our unseasonably warm weather. Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

Such a fun game! Not a plaid fan so I’d opt for solids all the way. It’s too try-hard Christmas but they are trying to sell each individual piece. The plaid jacket & matching shoes are too matchy-matchy for me. This is something my mom would have worn years ago and she’d have looked darling in it. Everyone’s style is different & we need to know ours. Cute but nit for me.
