My Summer Style Formula Over 50: Easy White Outfit Ideas
Have you ever heard of a style formula? Or better yet, do you have one?
A style formula is one of those little wardrobe tricks that makes getting dressed so much easier, especially in the summer when it’s hot, humid, and the last thing you want to do is stand in front of your closet overthinking things. It’s basically a go-to outfit formula you know works for your body, your lifestyle, and the season you’re in.
Today, I’m teaming up with my friends Jennifer from A Well Styled Life and Kay from Dressed for My Day to share our go-to style formula for the season. We each have a different take on summer style, and I know you’ll find something inspiring from each of us!
Let Me Introduce Myself:
If you are new to my blog, I’m Tania (pronounced like Tanya Tucker), and I want to welcome you to my blog. I’m married to Joe, and you’ll hear a lot about his crazy antics on my blog. I have 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and a pooch name Lucy Lu who you will often see in the background of my photos. For size reference, I’m 5’6″ tall and weigh between 150-155 (depends on the day), and wear a size 8 in most clothing. If you see a “🙂” in the comments, that’s because I play a game with my email subscribers. I hide a smiley face in one of my photos, and they say found it, or leave me a 🙂 when they find it. That enters them into my weekly $50 Amazon card giveaway.
White Outfit Ideas for Women Over 50
For me, my summer formula almost always starts with white. It’s crisp, clean, and keeps me feeling cool and confident, even when the temperature says otherwise. I’ve found a few foolproof ways to wear it that I go back to every single year: white on white, white with stripes, and white with neutrals.
Monochromatic – White on White
If you haven’t tried wearing white on white, what are you waiting for?
I know it can feel a little intimidating at first, maybe you’re worried about spills or thinking it’s too much, but trust me, it’s one of the easiest summer style uniforms you can create to look fresh and put together!
Don’t stress about matching your whites perfectly. Mixing shades and textures, like denim with linen or cotton with lace, actually makes the outfit feel more intentional. It adds interest without any extra effort.

I started with this Cotton Modal V-Neck Tee, and y’all, it’s one of those basics that just works. It’s lightweight but not see-through, and the V-neck is super flattering. I’m wearing a size large for a relaxed fit, and it’s got just the right amount of stretch to keep it comfy without looking sloppy.

I topped the tee with this gorgeous 100% Linen Structured Blazer. I think you gurls will be seeing me wear this one a lot because I love how it pulls an outfit together. It’s not too boxy, and the linen keeps it breathable, even when the summer humidity is doing the most. You can throw this blazer over just about anything and instantly look polished!

For bottoms, I went with these Galway Wide Leg Jeans in a size 29. These have a nice high rise that holds everything in, and the wide leg is great for balancing out your shape. I love how they skim the body without clinging, and the fabric is thick enough that you don’t have to worry about showing off your panty lines like you sometimes do in white jeans (you know what I mean!).

And for shoes, I slipped on my go-to Clear Strap Wedges. These babies are surprisingly comfortable, and the clear straps make your legs look a mile long. Plus, they go with everything! You can just as easily wear them with a sundress as you can with denim shorts.
Monochromatic – Navy on Navy with White Jeans
Don’t sleep on a monochromatic outfit, it’s one of the easiest ways to look instantly polished without trying too hard. Wearing one color creates a long, lean line, and when you stick with darker shades like navy, it’s extra slimming (yes, please!).
Now, I’ll admit this isn’t a true monochromatic outfit since I kept my white jeans on, but it still gives you that same streamlined effect. If you wanted to take it all the way with a total monochromatic style uniform, you could easily swap in a pair of dark wash jeans (find my favorite ones here!) or navy chino shorts!

For this look, I kept the same great blazer and jeans from the first outfit, but swapped out my white tee for a navy crewneck one. The tone-on-tone look feels classic and pulled together, but still super wearable for everyday.

I finished it off with a pair of my favorite wedge heels and my Brahmin Adrian Satchel for a little structure and polish. It’s the kind of outfit you can wear to lunch with the girls, church on Sunday, or even casual Friday at work.
Wearing White with Stripes
There’s just something about stripes that screams summer, don’t y’all think? They feel fresh, playful, and a little nautical without being over the top. And when you pair them with white? Instant outfit magic.
Whether you go bold or subtle, horizontal or vertical, stripes are a summer wardrobe staple I reach for again and again. Here are two stripe + white style uniforms I’ve been loving lately:

This Frank & Eileen Perfect Polo in the navy French stripe is just that, perfect. It’s got that lived-in softness I love, and the collar adds a sporty little twist. I’m wearing a medium for a relaxed fit, and it looks so cute half-tucked into these Wide-Leg Pants. The button-fly detail gives them a little extra interest, and they’re super comfortable!

I finished the look with my Brahmin Satchel, which adds structure and polish, and my go-to Sam Edelman platform slides. These sandals are comfy, true to size, and give me a little lift without sacrificing comfort. This look is one I’d wear to lunch with friends, out shopping, or even on a casual date night with my husband, Joe!

This next outfit is a little more colorful! This button-up is such a fun take on classic stripes. It’s got a breezy linen feel that’s perfect for those hot summer days, and I love the mix of soft colors.

I paired it with the same white wide-leg pants (see? They go with everything!) and added a raffia handbag for a touch of texture. The bag just sold out, my here is a similar one.

This outfit feels like something I’d wear on vacation, at a weekend farmer’s market, or just when I want to feel cool and pulled together without any effort!
White with Neutrals
Gurls, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, white goes with everything. But if you want a look that feels soft, elevated, and perfect for just about any occasion, try pairing your white pieces with warm neutrals. This combination is simple, it’s timeless, and it works for women of any age.
Pairing white with shades like beige, taupe, or cream adds depth and a soft contrast that’s easy on the eyes. Plus, neutrals have a way of making your whites look even crisper!

I started with this Organic Cotton Sweater Vest, which is lightweight, breathable, and perfect for those warm summer days. I’m wearing a medium, and it’s roomy enough to drape nicely without clinging.

Then I added the matching Organic Cotton Cardigan for a little extra coverage. It’s got just the right amount of texture to keep things interesting, and it’s a great option if you don’t love baring your arms. The whole look feels soft and polished without being heavy or fussy.

I love how the bright white pants anchor the whole outfit and make those warm neutrals pop. This is a look I’d wear on repeat all summer long, it’s put together but relaxed, stylish but comfortable. And the best part? Every piece can mix and match with the rest of your closet. That’s what I call a smart wardrobe, gurls!

On my feet, I’m wearing my Italian Leather Soft Loafers; they’re simple, polished, and easy to walk in. And I finished it off with a bag in a creamy ivory that ties everything together without being too matchy-matchy.
