HOW TO WRITE A SHORT STORY
If you have ever tried to write a short story, then you know that it can be frustrating. I have never been the writer in the family, that is my sister. So, when I started my blog, it was very nerve-wracking. The words, and the thoughts, don’t just flow from my fingertips but it has improved. Apparently, it is like most things in life, the more you do it, the better you will get.
Probably the hardest part is coming up with an idea. I have a hard time coming up with something to talk about daily for the blog, I can’t imagine trying to write a whole book. After you come up with the central idea, then you can start asking yourself these questions, what, when, where, and why. Answer all those questions, then come to a conclusion.
Becoming a writer is hard work. I think I will just leave that to my sister. She is trying to encourage younger children to start writing, so she is having a writing contest.
Last In A Long Line Of Rebels is the name of my sister’s book. One of the characters in the book is Bertie. Bertie is the grandmother of Lou, and she is described as feisty, hilarious, out spoken, and even flirtatious. The Bertie is a youth contest for ages 11-13 to enter, with 600.00 in prize money available. Here is where you can read all about the contest. If you know of someone who might be interested, a neighbor, cousin, grandchild, etc., be sure to share this site.I have on a pair of Chloe & Isabel earrings that I bought last fall at the craft show our woman’s club hosts. I won a necklace, so I bought the matching earrings. These have black faceted centers and a drop of semi precious rock crystal.
I am wearing my Michael Kors watch that the girls at work got me for my birthday two years ago. They are really good to me:) I put on a retired Stella & Dot black enamel bangle, you can probably find it on Ebay. Here and here are similar bracelets.
My purse is a Miche bag. If you are not familiar with Miche, here is how they work. You buy a base bag, mine is an ivory base. They you buy different shells, these are magnetic, so they “stick” to the base. You can change the look of the purse by changing shells. They are fabulous because you never have to take anything out of the purse. Mine is the classic size, but they have larger and smaller ones. Here, here, and here are some cute shells.
My shoes are old, and almost worn out. I have had them for at least 3 or 4 years. These flats are by Kathy Van Zeeland. Here is a pair that I like with a cute zipper detail. Here is a look from the back, and it seems my pants look a little big. I didn’t notice them being too big from the front, but this is not a particularly flattering shot. I guess this is not a great time to talk about my pants, but I am going to anyway. Lol! They are a couple of years old, I bought them from a little boutique in town. They are Karen Kane, and you can’t go wrong with that brand. They are a little pricey, but the quality is usually great. I try to shop some of the local stores when I can, although I will sometimes wait for the sales. Here is a similar pair (misses) and here is a similar pair (plus).
They look fine from the side, maybe it was the way I was standing. I love this bright floral cardigan. It is an Ann Taylor, that I bought at the outlets in Florida. They had a table full of cardigans on sale, and this one just caught my eye. I love bright colors, as you might have already noticed, but my mother is always making fun of my choices. She is afraid you gurls would take up for me here on the blog, so she keeps here comments to her self. Haha My mommy is afraid of my GURLS!!! Here is a cardigan that is similar.
I saved the best for last. This is the first time I have worn this necklace, and I am in love! I should have gotten a close-up picture for you, it is hard to see against my cardigan. This looks so elegant, and retro. It reminds me of the art deco period. If you can see, it has the same rock crystals as my earrings. I am saving back to buy the cuff bracelet too, I didn’t think I would like it, but after seeing the necklace I am hooked.
Today is the last day to enter for the Stella & Dot Capri tote giveaway. I will be announcing the winner on Friday! If you have not already entered, then go here to enter.

Truly enjoy your posts and comments. You have such great ideas especially for those over 50
love the cardigan, I need to invest in some more long necklaces. I always wear shorter ones, but had spine surgery a couple years ago and have a big scar on my neck, no need to draw attention to that!
Love your styles and I like to read what you write. I think you are doing fine but if you ever feel you really don’t have anything to say in a particular post, you could just describe your clothes, jewelry, where you are headed dressed that way, etc and it would be fine as well. I like what you post and wouldn’t stop subscribing just because you couldn’t think of a back story one day! I hope coming up with a story doesn’t cause you too much stress. Keep up the good work!
Love the sweater! I had a black and white polka dot one that I wore till death (had to get rid of it – per my daughter:) I am realizing 2 things from your blog – I need to buy more color and I need new jeans!!! Your hair looks great – as always. I have a similar haircut and I style mine like yours the 1st day and the 2nd day I give it some curl. Do you ever do that?
Tania,
I started subscribing to several fashion bloggers Jan 2015, when I turned 50.
I ran across your blog shortly after you started your blog.
Out of all them YOURS IS MY ABSOLUTE FAV.
I literally can not wait to open your post everyday!
Thank you for your dedication to helping others.
Cute outfit, pretty sweater! I have always wanted to write, but like you, I can’t seem to find the right words, The character in your sister’s book Bertie is the same name of the county that I live in, I thought that was so cute!
Oooo….. I have never heard of those bags. I am going check them out.
Tania,
I enjoy your site so much. Love your stories and your outfits. The bright spring sweater you featured today inspired me to add some brighter colors to my wardrobe. Thanks!!
Cute shoes and cute lady! Love your blog Tania and look forward to it everyday in my email : ) Can’t wait to see how you style the necklace in future posts, such a great piece!!
Wish we could find another pair of those cute shoes! I’ve seen you style them before, and love them! Sweater is fabulous too! Keep writing gurl, you are doing a fine job! Oh, what ever happened with your new fur friend?!
I usually do not leave comments but….. I do so look forward to your posts every morning. A great way to start off the day with positiveness! thank you.
Thanks for taking the time, Mary. I used to read a lot of blogs, and hardly ever commented either. I appreciate all the comments I get, because I know it is hard to sometimes know what to say.?
Great outfit, I so look forward to your blog every morning. Question, are the pants really dark denim or a black wash? Love them, they look so good on you.
They are a strange pant, Penny. They are not exactly jeans, but that is how I would describe them. They are blackish, they have a hatch look about them. Crazy description, huh?
I love this outfit!!!!!! It’s so bright and cheery. Makes me excited for spring! 🙂
Tania, I think you do a wonderful job of writing. As a fairly new follower, I’m really enjoying what I’ve read so far. Your “gurls” sound hilarious! Regarding your fashion, I’m loving the bright colors, it’s something I’ve always gravitated towards. However, right now, I’m a torn soul with my style. I’m really trying to pare down my clothes, I just don’t go enough places to dress up. As a 60 year old Grammy, I spend most of my time doing Grammy Duty, as I call it. My wardrobe calls for mostly active wear to play with the kiddo’s. The 6 & 4 year old are a path through the woods away; the 2 year old & newborn just down the road. I’ve been buying some solid colored tops thinking I could get more mix and match wear out of them, than the brightly printed tops I’ve always gravitated towards. See my dilemma? Anyone else have that issue?
Gina, I love Grammy duty! I will usually wear a pair of jeans and a cute top when I am with the kiddo’s. I don’t wear a necklace or put on bracelets, but if you needed to run out, that would make the outfit complete. One of the reason’s I like bright and printed tops, is it can change an outfit easily. With a print top you can picked out a different color to highlight. With the bright colors, you can change up the accessories, whether it is a scarf, necklace, purse, or shoes, and change the whole look. Thank for being one of the gurls?
The Miche bag reminds me of Lindsay Phillips shoes. Being from the near- South you may have heard of them. I LOVE them for the same reasons as the Miche bag, you can change the “snap” on the toe and the look changes. Great for travel. Love the dark jeans, so classy.
I need to look those up Jill. I have never heard of them. Thanks for the tip.
You don’t strike me as anyone having trouble writing. I feel when I read your blog like I am talking with a best friend. Love your spring inspirations!
Great Spring look! You are doing a great job with the blog. Personally I love the price mix you show. It’s great to see inexpensive items with more high end. I’m into handbags and sometimes create outfits around that one accessory. Went shopping at Steinmart yesterday and had your voice in my ear. Chose the hot pink top over the boring white knowing you would approve!
I love that story Linda!!! I told my husband that you could hear me saying, pick the hot pink. He agreed that was something I would say. Hahaha
What a cute outfit. You found some adorable things on your trip south. That’s a neat idea for changing up a handbag – would definitely help for a minimalist or capsule wardrobe. As I was reading your blog the other day I thought how difficult it must be to come up with something to write about daily. You do a fantastic job. I look forward to seeing your real life fashion ideas and reading your stories. Have a blessed day.
T~ where is Lucy G’s picture???
Also, I was doing some pinning last night and ran across some of your first blog pic’s and I can really see your weight loss- looking great gurl!
So pretty! Love the dark wash of the jeans. Your blog is a joy to read, you’re doing just fine in the writing department. 🙂
Such a cute outfit! It’s perfect for spring! You look amazing! I absolutely love your necklace. It truly is a stunning piece of jewelry.
Have a great day! 🙂
