Who Wants A Younger Sister

Most of my readers have heard me sing the praises of my younger sister. She is a work from home, home schooling, award-winning author. (See the link to her book in my sidebar) She is my go to person for tech support, my call every morning while I get dressed, and my sounding board for blog ideas. However, it has not always been this way. Have I told you about the time “I” became her mother?My sister was born when I was 5 years old. Like most 5 year olds, I am sure I begged my mom and dad for a younger sister or brother. (Remember to  be careful what you ask for) So, when my sister was born, I was on cloud nine! This was like having a doll that squirmed, and moved, and was soft. I hated those hard plastic dolls. My memory of what transpired is a little foggy, remember I was five, but my mother has snickered about this incident many times. I loved watching my younger sister, and thought she was just grand. So one day, I asked mom if I could have her. “Just give her to me, and let me take care of her.” I think my mom probably threw her at me, and then quickly ran off to take a bubble bath. WOW! She was mine, so let’s play. Okay, here is where it gets a little rocky. She turned out to not be as much fun as I had thought. She couldn’t walk or run, heck she couldn’t even sit up. She cried, wanted to be rocked, and demanded to be fed. If that wasn’t bad enough, she refused to use the bathroom in the potty and must have thought I was going to do something about that. NOT!!! So off I went, with her cradled gently in my arms, to find my mom. I sweetly told my mother that I thought she could have my sister back now. And like the sweet loving mother she is, she said NO. What??? Really??? Was she crazy (don’t answer that), I was only five. So I went off and tried to entertain the squirming bundle of torment, but she was not having any of that. MOM!!! MOM!!! MOM!!! Finally she came to see what I wanted, and I begged her to take my sister back. Never one to miss an opportunity, she agreed, but only if I would pay her to take her back. Yep, I went and raided my piggy bank, and came back with about a dollars worth of change. Finally, I was rid of the little bugger. Fast forward 50 years, she has now became priceless to me. However, if you have a really large piggy bank you would like to trade, we might could talk.A hat on the blog is rare. I don’t look good in hats, and I have a BIG head. Most hats don’t fit me. This is a hat that I let my daughter-in-law talk me into. She wears hats all the time and of course looks fabulous. She bought the same hat, but in carmel. They are from Old Navy, and because it was inexpensive, and on sale, I decided to give it a try. It has sat in my closet till today. I know matchy, matchy, is not in vogue, but I kind of like a little coordination. Here is a similar hat. My burgundy tank is also from Old Navy, and I like that it is longer. The Kaleidoscope necklace is from Premier Designs, and I have worn it several times. See here, here, and here. When you can get a lot of wear out of your jewelry, it makes the initial price tag not so painful.
The purse and the ankle boots both came from the QVC outlet. The Tignanello burgundy and red suede purse is no longer available, but here is a similar item. The Kathy Von Zeeland booties have the cutest design of the heels. I gives a little extra as you walk away. They too are no longer available. You can find them occasionally on Ebay. Here is a similar pair by Vionic, a company that makes cute shoes that are comfortable. I had to include a  picture without the hat so you could decide which one you liked best. The long gray cocoon duster is from Cato, and I bought it this past fall. I have worn it before, see here, but I think I like todays best. A similar one in a plus size is here. Which one is your favorite? With the hat, or without?

Did you notice the snowman is gone? How do you like the iron filigree cross? I found it in my daughter’s room this weekend and until my “S” is finished, this is what I am going to use.

I will save some of the other ways my younger sister has tormented me throughout my life for future post. Do you have a younger sibling that specialized in making your life…..lets say interesting?
